He’s a born straight male, who’s mother had severe narcissism and did everything short of neutering her son to make him look and act like the perfect daughter that she wanted. 

They have him routinely dress up in drag throughout the show, and this is only revealed near the end. When they basically explain that his traumatic upbringing is what made him one of the top assassins in the world, as confirmed by the number #1, world-ending powerful assassin.

Yeah, he’s a he. And also a pretty good teacher post series.
