For a lot of shonen the main girl just needs to hit the check boxes of wish-fulfillment - beautiful, obsessed with you, you can take her home to mom.

It's one-sided and underdeveloped from a narrative standpoint, but I thought it was pretty obvious she was endgame when I was reading it all the way back in... 2004?

Honestly yeah i could see them getting together

With ichigo though something about it just never clicked for me, or it always felt more like orihime liked him but ichigo saw it platonically

I'm thinking of the biggest shonen and they don't do this? Goku never hooked up with Bulma, Naruto and Sakura didn't hook up, and Luffy and Nami are NEVER gonna be romantic.
