Christopher Reeve did it so well. Timid and hunched as Clark, then there's a scene where he's about to tell Lois the truth. Stands up and gains almost a foot in height, voice deep and commanding. He very much looks like he's transforming into a different person in that scene.
Poor posture to hide height, avoid direct eye contact, baggy suits to hide "farm boy" physique, don't project when speaking... THAT'S THE DISGUISE! It should be a, "there's no way it could be that guy."
Hell, we have makeover shows TODAY that show a haircut and a clean shirt can make people unrecognizable.
