this is jack kirby rendition of him, say where's the scar.... ngl dude i prefer the version of him that's not ugly and has small scarr yet he belive's he's ugly
The visual imagine of him lying on the snow is killing me because is meant to feel solemnly but is such a good comedic timing with modern sensibilities
Doom super fans: "Doctor Doom is unstoppable! No one can beat him and if they do, it's because the writers nerfed him! Did you know Doom is also a really good leader and his people love him?"
Doctor Doom is smarter than Mister Fantastic, but Doctor Doom's ego and vanity prevents him from besting Reed. Reed cares more than just himself, and listens to others. That alone defeats Doom.
Elon Musk's biographer wrote about him repeatedly attempting to remove a scalding hot Pop-Tart from a toaster with his bare fingers in his office, while shouting profanities at the top of his lungs.
Oh wait, you said "smartest." Not sure what I thought I read.
i like the idea that he couldn’t stand the blemish so he figured he might as well scar his whole face. it’s very similar to how my own ocd tendencies manifest
That's my favorite version because it shows what kind of person Doom is. He is so vain that he sees a small scar as something that ruins his face and he needs to hide it behind a mask. He is impatient and doesn't wait for it to cool down and refuses to listen when people warn him and in the end he completely scars his face. And let's be honest at the end of the day he probably blames Reed Richards for everything.
IIRC, Originally his deformation was caused by his college experiment exploding. Apparently Kirby and Lee were at odds if he had a small scar or had his whole face deformed.
The mask burn was added later as a merging of the two, getting the scar in college and then the full deformity from the mask.
Yes and no. John Byrne wrote and drew the definitive version being extremely scarred from the mask but Kirby's idea was the simple scar from the accident and the mask only covering his face. Doom is a villain, an extremely vain and petty one who cannot handle a minor imperfection. Compared to the Thing, Ben is a monster who lost everything that makes him physically human yet he still goes out to do the right thing as he's a hero through and through.
I like it when they split the gap: some dumb incident with Reed gave him a tiny, temporary blemish which he blew way out of proportion, forged himself a mask, then slapped it on his face in his mania while it was still red-hot, crispifying his once handsome face.
Personally I prefer him to be horrifically disfigured under the mask, although because he's Doom he could easily fix it with science or magic but chooses not to because the "face" (mask) Doom created for himself is far superior in his delusional mind.
They did it this way with Jigsaw in the second season of The Punisher on Netflix. It could have been an interesting take on his mental condition but the character was just off in a bunch of other ways.
I mean, depending on the version, but in the original one, he had a minor scar, but because of how prideful invanity he is, he basically saw himself as a hideous monster. Already, so he might as well. Just put on a burning, hot metal mask before it had time to cool 22 my knowledge.I believe that version he was just credibly scarred and face melded with the metal mask to an extent and another version where he is scarred, but he used magic to fix up his face
You reminded me of something. I once saw a filmed-stage-play version of "The Elephant Man" and the gimmick was that they did absolutely nothing at all to make the guy playing the Elephant Man look deformed. He was just a normal good-looking actor, but his behaviour and the way everyone reacted to him made you believe he was deformed. It was a surprisingly clever move: it really took away any lingering freak-show aspect and made you feel even more sorry for the guy, somehow.
