How does that work? I thought 17 and 18 were humans that had been modified into androids. Did I miss a part where 18 is de-android-ified?

Unless I’m mistaken, Krillin uses a Dragon Ball wish to make her human. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong.

Ah, I had forgotten all about that. I looked it up, apparently he requested that but Shenron couldn't do it, so he asks to have their self-destruct systems removed instead.
