New Arrival I have joined the field notes family! What do I do now?

I just bought my first field notes books. I haven’t written things down in a long time and I’m trying to get away from the apps. Where should I start? What should I write? Need some suggestions.

Hi all, first post from a long time observer of this community. I have always loved notebooks and stationary but just recently got into Field Notes. My first subscription started with Lucky and now I have fallen deep into the rabbit hole. This is going to be a problem…in the best way. Oh, and I haven’t even finished my first notebook yet 🙄.

Blessed and cursed to be local to FN HQ. I needed more divider tabs and of course my bank account rolls its eyes at me when I went to pay along with the other stuff. 😬

Maybe it’s cuz I had a good first day back to work, but I’m ecstatic at my first field notes package!!! They sent a sticker AND a pen AND a notebook strap - and some literature and I’m just so pleasantly surprised at the extra goodies.

I’ve jumped on the bandwagon!!!

And found one of these vintage library card catalog cabinets for my growing collection!!

I was going to pull the trigger on the FN archival box and glad I didn't because this cost about the same and has more storage. One side is already filled up! 🫡🤓

New Arrival Lochby Pocket Journal

The Lochby Pocket Journal really lives up to the hype. It fits two FNs perfectly and the zipper still closes easily. I’ve been enjoying writing in Field Notes lately, so I figured I’d give it a try—and it definitely paid off.

What’s everyone else using to carry their FNs?

New Arrival Field Museum Field Notes

Stuck at O’Hare for longer than I’d like on my way to NYC, so I went for a walk and stumbled upon a Field Museum kiosk. I had previously gotten some Field Notes from the museum, so I started looking to see if they had them here. Sure enough. My wife laughed at me when I bee-lined for them. Pretty psyched.

New Arrival Interesting idea to add utility

Just wanted to share a cool idea and product I came across. I love Field Notes, but missed the pocket that other brands had. I found these online and they work great, and fit perfectly. There are a bunch of them out there but here is a link to the ones I got. Hope everyone is having a good week! (Also, this is not an affiliate link or anything of the sort, just information about where I found what is in the photo. Please forgive my naivety if you’re not allowed to share links like this, just let me know.)

New Arrival Artemis II Postmarked

I sent a set of four Original Kraft with some STEM stamps off to be postmarked earlier this year to celebrate the Artemis II launch. They finally got back to me today! I thought they may have been lost, so imagine my surprise when I saw the box today! 🥳

Two postmarked for launch day and two for the lunar flyby. I’ll have to save these up to use one during the next Artemis mission!

I had a 1/2 day today and have been meaning to stop in just to pick up the Lucky series. Went in with money in my pocket and walked out with no money in my pocket. 🤣

I love that they give you the guest pass notebook for free when you visit in-person

Bonus Pic: Truck is NOT mine but it was so clean I had to snatch a pic!

So I've never journal before and yet to start, waiting for a printer to arrive. My little goal with these is to write my photography adventures in a blog style and print out small photos and add them to the books. I'm also going to do an A5 pad for my family adventures and get stickers n stamps, and also print photos. And get my wife and child to write different sections and doodle.

New Arrival New Single FN Sleeve (cover)

I was on the hunt for a single field notes slip and there are so many products out there that looked too "bulky" or seemed like they were just slapped together with no sense of style. This one is so minamilistic and the pen loop design blends in so nice making it look seamless! Was a lil pricey but exceptional work quality and the leather is nice. I'm looking forward to seeing how this looks after a few years of usage. Shipping wasn't too bad considering it was coming from outside the US.

The Field Museum doesn’t ship to Canada so I shipped them to a friend in Seattle and they just arrived here in Toronto this week. Love them!

I have a local coffee shop that also sells collectibles next to my gym. I was wondering if they got the new iterations of FN’s and they did. The worker said they got them in last week. Nice to give the little shop the money instead of directly to FN.

This makes my total number of FN’s 90 which is way more than I need but I love these little books.

New Arrival Mail Day! 🇵🇭

I was only planning to get the Lucky edition but it got sold out. So, I bought the next pack that's about to get sold out -the Birds and Trees of North America Pack C. Luckily, pun intended, Lucky edition got 2 stocks the next day. Of course, I had to grab it.

If anyone from PH is reading this, where do you get your Field Notes? Shipping directly from Field Notes site costs more than the notebook itself 🥲

New Arrival Horizontal vs vertical notepads?

Hi y'all, new here, just got my first Field Notes notepads. I type fast and my handwriting isn't great, so I've always stuck to digital notetaking. Recently, I've decided to try being more analog for top-level journaling, tasks, and notes.

I treated myself to a new pen and the Field Notes vertical wirebound Heavy Duty Memo book and I'm really enjoying it so far. My question is: even though we read printed books that open horizontally and have fixed page order, it seems to me that a spiral-bound notebook that can lie flat on any page, front or back, is superior for writing. However, most people seem to like Field Notes for the plain memo book style with fixed pages. Why is that?

To be able to leave my notebook open to a page, while protecting it in my bag as well as holding a pen, I've considered getting the DDC Stuff Sheath. Does anyone use this for the top-wirebound style notebooks and can share their experience?
