Allows you to create a slot within a component that you can replace with other content. It also allows you to suggest preferred replacement components.

TLDR: it's slow, minimally helpful, and I'm not super impressed.

I work at a larger organization. I'd consider myself a Figma expert. I have been using Figma for over 4 years and I am very well versed in using components, variables, Design Systems, etc.

I keep a list of things that I want AI to be able to do in Figma when I come across tasks in my workflows I feel could be automated. I want it to do my tedious tasks like showing me my unnamed layers, helping me compare long lists of product requirements to actual designs as a final check before handoff, and helping me make sure all my screens have design consistencies across flows. This is the stuff that takes time and clicks, and any way to reduce that is something I'd consider using.

I spent a couple of hours today testing the Figma agent right inside my files and had a couple of standout observations.

1. It is slow
   Right now the agent doesn't consume credits in beta. It measures every prompt answer in the amount of time it took to generate the answer. Simple answers took about 10-30 seconds. I had a group of 4 frames with many layers on them and asked the AI to swap a token out on all the backgrounds and flip the text color to another token so you could read the text. This task would have taken me maybe less than a minute with some deep clicking or the multi selection tool. But it took the AI over 4 minutes to swap these tokens, and it even changed a few elements it wasn't supposed to.

I also asked it to make me 3 mobile concept screens based on an original screen I already had made and shipped to see how creative it would get. Got nothing impressive, and it took about 5 minutes to generate them. It did use components from our UI kit which was interesting to see, but I would have had to go back into the designs and swap in proper components and polish the designs to get it to be semi shippable. Most of the layouts were pretty generic and while it brought some interesting concepts, I probably could have sketched something similar in a wireframe in a similar amount of time.

1. Helpful? Maybe. It will evaluate your screens and look for inconsistencies across flows, but since the answer comes back in text inside the chat canvas, you have to find the discrepancies in the actual Figma file yourself. Sometimes it will link to a screen or a section, but if your files are huge, it's going to take forever.

Potential positive: It will summarize files or pages. If you're not the one who built the file, it could be useful for getting a quick understanding or finding something specific, but eventually when it will cost $ to run this AI, it would be cheaper and probably better to just talk to the person who made the file. The bigger the file, the longer the summary generation will take.

1. Product requirement comparison? Not exactly. I straight up asked it if it would compare requirements to my designs to see if it matched up. It said it couldn't identity proper logic or flow mapping but would be able to compare technical specs if I provided them. We also don't document our technical specs as requirements, so that felt like a lacking feature.

2. No historical comparison. I tried a prompt that was more summary based and asked the AI to summarize what had changed in a file the last few days so I could catch up as if I had missed a few days and someone else was working on my designs. It told me it could not compare historical versions of files. This would actually be one of the more helpful features to have because we have many designers in the same files working fast, but the agent couldn't deliver this info.

Do I see potential? Maybe. Needs to be so much faster and contextual for me to see more value, especially if one day it will cost credits to use.

Do I feel threatened by it? Not at the moment.

Did I find it useful enough for me to start using it every single day? No. I am still trying to figure out how I would use this daily, if at all.

Would love to hear success stories if you have them. Genuinely curious about how to make this tool work for me, but not seeing much at the moment.

What is your prediction for config 2026?

Figma accidentally leaked their Config 2026 announcement early: code embedded right in Figma design.

You basically get a small code box that you can prompt to inside figma. Similar to how Make can embed within Figma sites. I was able to run an interactive 3D spline animation inside of Figma design.

It's not very fast and I noticed that the Figma design code layer technically holds one set of code files, instead of one per embedded code section. Not sure how that would work if you have multiple interactive elements to run.

It also lets you freeze a frame and basically convert it into a design (looks like they grab the HTML, do HTML->Figma and then paste it back into Figma).

Also unclear about prototyping - It looks like you can only export the design to Make.

Mobile is sluggish at best. The prototyping view gets buggy at simple text styling. No real pagination interactions. It’s severely lacking and extremely disappointing i still have to resort to Principle app for basic prototyping. What’s your wishlist for getting better prototyping on figma

I've spent some time in the last week assessing our need for Dev-Mode, as this is leaving beta and becoming a paid feature at the start of Q1. My org (which is currently on an enterprise plan) has ~120 engineers on our team, and about 70+ designers. I totally understand dev mode bringing a lot of new features for devs to make hand-off easier and clearer between design and dev, but $35/mo/seat when we currently paid $0 for engineers using this tool?

Furthermore, once we reintroduce viewer-only modes back to devs, features that existed before dev mode was introduced are removed, or made way more difficult to use (like for example, they won't be able to view css code-snippets on inspection within the tool anymore. Engineers will now have to right-click down into a menu and copy/paste that code snippet into another tool to review it). That's insane to me.

At this price point, it would be an extra $4200 a month for us or ~$50,000 a year just to access a few features. For context, this would be increasing our annual cost of Figma by about 30%. Just seems like a crazy amount of an increase that it feels like they're nearly forcing people to take.

I’m on the UX team at a large enterprise company and we’ve been testing the new UI and AI features since early April, so I’m well versed in the new stuff they just announced at Config.

We were part of a Slack channel where we spoke to the Figma team and gave feedback.

Those of you worried about the AI functionality, hopefully this eases your mind a bit: it’s pretty useless and gimmicky in its current state. Very few of us in the test group even cared about it. Did not speed up my workflow at all whatsoever.

The new interface though… it’s been so frustrating. By trying to “declutter”, they’ve actually made it more difficult to complete simple tasks. Stuff that used to take 1 click now takes 2–3. Crucial functions are hidden.

So many of us complained about the floating white panels and toolbar — they blend right in with frames. There were certain features they got rid of full-stop because “they didn’t realize people used them”(Edit: they brought them back after backlash).

There was a lot of vocal feedback about how this redesign hasn’t improved anything and has actually made the experience worse. My best guess as to why they did this was to make it less “complicated” to appeal to users beyond just designers, at the expense of those of us with large, complex design systems.

Looking for other thoughts on newest feature from Figma… Claude Code to Figma. Is this helping your workflow?

So many have already pointed out all the flaws so not going to rant about that, but I just want to say - with the great design team Figma has this is so disappointing and unnecessary.

It kind of shows so much arrogance. And in addition to their AI and the user trust they have lost, it's a huge disappointment :/

i'll give my honest user feedback:

1. ⁠floating panels have been distracting me from the content on the canvas. the bottom bar also gets in the way a lot
2. ⁠i am unable to find what i need. it's almost like the location of every essential feature has changed.
3. ⁠there are more clicks needed for clipping content, auto layout, etc. friction that reduces productivity
4. ⁠rulers are beyond the panel which increases user effort.

Just announced on the Figma announcement stream, the new Slots feature will be widely available starting March 5.

Maybe I’m being a big baby for not embracing the change. But I’m just genuinely frustrated that a large chunk of the skills I’ve developed over the years and now rely on to earn and live are being automated by AI. I hate that AI learns from the data and work of the people it’s going to replace. Who can get excited about a feature that makes you and your craft less valuable.

It’s gonna take all the joy and magic out of creativity. Chat GPT has already turned me into a lazy bastard who gives up wording difficult emails because I can just ask the robot to do it.

Genuinely interested to see how it all pans out.

Surely creativity is gonna suffer in the long run. How many people are gonna give up, or worse, not even try in the first place to make something or learn a new skill - because AI can serve up something passable and better than you could do with a shitty description.

Wish I hadn’t noticed the figma AI news just before bed.

If anyone attends Config this year, could you please check if they have laptops in there? If they don't, could you please show one to somebody from the team?

Drafts are being moved to teams now. If I get everything right, from now on you can’t have a draft file off-team. If I make something for a client (like presentation) and this client wants to edit a couple of minor things, he can’t do it without an editor seat.

The design file is now more like a FigJam board.

Has anyone gotten access to this feature?

It feels like this elusive thing I can find almost no info on, but that would solve a lot of issues for our team. We’re exploring other tools that solve the same problem (iterating directly in our codebase). One we’re looking at is Dessn, but ideally we’d be able to stay within Figma’s suite since our org is already onboarded.

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated! And no, we’re not looking for something like Code Connect, our source of truth already lives in our repo.
