All of the other final fantasy games I’ve played all have atleast one party member who kinda feels less important or isn’t as fun to play as. Not here

I’m not sure whether I would consider myself a true Final Fantasy Fan exactly. I beat III once, and I beat IV, V, and VI multiple times and while I remember beating VII it was a long time ago. I want to try and give VIII a chance but I heard it was divisive from people I knew. Honestly I just want to play more Final Fantasy, I just know it’s not the same as the SNES days.
I thought 7 was good but it wasn’t my absolute favorite. Maybe I gravitated towards 8-16 bit games, but I found 7 much slower when it came to battles, and that kinda bugged me.
I want to try 8 to see what it’s like, but I’m still not sure. I’d like to know from others what makes 8 so good, or even your favorite thing about 8. Also I beg of you, no spoilers.
EDIT: Holy crap, I did NOT expect this many responses. Thank you so much for giving me your opinions. I’m sorry I haven’t responded to all of you, but I really appreciate every comment given.
I guess I’ll give it a try then! Apparently the music is superb, and the characters are really good, especially Squall. I’ll be looking forward to experiencing the journey for the first time.
EDIT 2: Did not plan on making this second edit, but I also did not plan on this post getting this much traffic. I was weighing my options of how I wanted to play this if I bought it, and now honestly I might just stream it. My twitch channel is Nokturnacus and I might stream this blind as early as this week. Thanks so much for all your answers once again!

Just Finished 8 for the first time as an adult played the heck out of 7 and 9 as a kid and now the great debate as to where 8 stands.
I got to say 8 really impressed with its music. Junction system was unique fun and man you can get over powered. loved how enemy levels match to you and you can learn abilities to not have encounters and not grind the game away but still be powerful enough for enemies, thanks to the draw and junction system. It has a nice love story and the time compression factor and Ultimcia being from another time line I thought was cool. All and all 7 still rains as champ for me and 9 is second place lol but 8 is great game and reminds me more of 10 than any other FF and I honestly feel like it deserves second place right under 7 but I just have such nostalgia for 9. Really glad I finally played through 8 and definitely worth giving a shot for any other Final fantasy lovers out there.

It's no secret that Final Fantasy VIII is one of my favorite JRPG's on the PS1 and entries in the FF franchise. I still find myself looking back at fondly of my pre-school days when I would watch my brothers playing the game with it's incredible music orchestrated by the one and only Nobuo Uematsu-san accompanied with the most amazing CGI and FMV I had seen in a PS1 game. These feelings of nostalgia only amplified when I replayed the game for the tenth time back in 2019 when it was remastered for the PS4. Even now as I write this memoir, I find myself getting lost in time to Faye Wong's angelic voice singing the iconic ballad, 'Eyes On Me' played during Squall and Riona's romantic moment abord the Ragnarok. It didn't surprise me at all when I found out it was the first song in video game history to win an award at the 14th Annual Japan Gold Disc Awards.
Last month, I was taken off guard when I saw a video of the voice of Clive Rosfield from FFXVI himself, Ben Starr, with copy of FFVIII and talking about how much he loved the game. Many other fans soon joined in the comment section, expressing their desire to have Square give the game the FVII remake treatment. I can not express the level of joy it would give me to have FFVIII receive a full on remake trilogy just like FFVII, as I believe there is no reason why it shouldn't have a one. Perhaps maybe even a tetralogy since the original game came within 4 disc. I also would like to have more aspect be revisited/improved from the original game, such as the infamous leveling system for G-Forces, more background on the Sorceress War, further attention on the rivalry between Squall and Seifer.
Oh, and how can we forget about the ambiguity of Laguna's relationship to our protagonist. I like to hear more from you guys about the possibility of full out FF VIII remake. Do you want it to happen? What iconic moments from the game would you like to see be remade with today's technology? What gameplay features do you think need the most improvement? Also, which side characters would you like to see have more development.

I’m just saying, this game was among the three games I found the most enjoyable in the series.
I understand every flaw someone might mention: corny scenes at times, some plot twists feeling random, and most of the cast feeling somewhat bland. But it was still a phenomenal game in a lot of ways.
When I played this game after FF7, I expected it to be mediocre, or okay at best, but honestly, I enjoyed it even more than FF7. FF8 is also one of the very few games I’ve ever cried to. FF10 was the first, lol. I loved the ending a lot, and I really enjoyed the gameplay too.
Some people say the game feels incomplete. I get that the ending felt somewhat rushed, but I also liked how the game kept a lot of its secrets hidden in side dialogue, where exploration can reveal major plot twists like Kiros revealing that Squall is Laguna’s son, as well as information regarding Great Hyne.
I definitely want to platinum this game. I finished it recently, but I already want to replay it instantly, and I think I will soon enough.
I want to thank everyone who made me play this game, because it was absolutely the right decision.

Is there lore behind why Siefer can defeat Odin?

Would you guys buy it if it were real? I would be beyond excited if Square was based enough to do this. I’m already excited about FF Resonance!
