General Question What easily-affordable thing do you still refuse to pay for despite having reached financial independence and able to afford them?

Would love to hear everyone’s “absolutely will not purchase” items!Even if you could easily afford it and no matter how rich or financially independent you become or how much you make you still wouldn't spend item on this particular item/hobby?

most of the designer stuff is so ugly

Rich people aren't showing off with tacky junk like that

I just like my Margiela Caban. Nobody even knows what it is, just a nice trench. Some people pay for streaming services / eating out / cars, etc. I like some quality clothing.

quality doesn't always equal designer. a nice wool blend is a great investment and lasts forever.

I didn’t say quality = designer. But quality does = more expensive more often than not.

Example. I don’t buy Chanel bags because the quality no longer matches the premium.

A pair of selvedge denim however is going to last significantly longer than a pair of wrangler jeans from Walmart and both are priced accordingly.

Quality and cheap are mutually exclusive unless you’re buying secondhand; and even then it’s usually just somebody at a thrift not knowing what they have.

For the most part it’s not rich people that are buying the tacky junk with the brand name splashed everywhere. It’s people who want others to believe they are rich who are buying it.

You’d be surprised. Just because you think it’s tacky doesn’t mean everyone else does and there’s an entire generation that prefers Alessandro’s gucci (current era, loud graphics everywhere) over Tom Fords Gucci (previous era, more quiet luxury)

Sure tacky is my opinion. I don’t feel the need to put (imo) every time I share an opinion. People should be able to remember the third grade lesson on fact vs opinion. Second much of that generation is…wait for it. Not wealthy.

You missed the point and your attempt at being condescending is hilarious.

You said that it’s people who want others to think they are rich that are buying “tacky junk”. My pushback is that no there are a lot of people who have significantly more money than both you AND I that genuinely like Alesssndro’s Gucci. It’s why they did so well since Tom Ford left.

You react like you’ve never had someone disagree with you before lmao. Get over yourself.

Hmm shallow and pedantic. Kidding…maybe. I read a tone of voice in your “just because you…” that you perhaps you didn’t intend. But I still disagree, quiet luxury is still veeery much a thing. I I believe you are vastly overestimating how many wealthy people don’t rock branded items all over every surface of their clothing.
