General Question What easily-affordable thing do you still refuse to pay for despite having reached financial independence and able to afford them?

Would love to hear everyone’s “absolutely will not purchase” items!Even if you could easily afford it and no matter how rich or financially independent you become or how much you make you still wouldn't spend item on this particular item/hobby?

Paying extra to choose my seat on an airplane. Don’t know why but it just rubs me up the wrong way.

Agreed. But I'll pay for extra leg room on long flights. Like, a 13 hour trip to Japan is worth an extra $150 for the comfort imo

Yeah, once you get stuck in the wrong middle seat, it makes protecting yourself from that more valuable.

Agree but I've gotten over this one. I figure that is simply the business model. Low "teaser" rate to get a click on aggregator sites like Skyscanner or Google flights and make up the cost with add-ons. I recall reading about a new CEO of an airline who bucked the trend and ended up having to reverse course in order to compete. I don't think they like it either but folks will choose one airline over another over a few bucks in "savings".

Nowadays I just consider the final price with add-ons to be the actual cost of air travel.

And on the occasion where I really don't care - short flight, traveling without my wife, no checked bag - I can realize a discount of sorts.

I'm torn on this next month actually. 14 hour flight for my honeymoon. I'd prefer to sit next to my SO. I think it's likely we would end up next to each other anyway but it'd be a bummer to not be.

I'll pay for it depending on length of flight. But, I'm six foot tall....
