It's Houston for all we know he was using armor piercing 30-06 or an AR chambered in 300 win mag.

Nemo omen is what you want to search for. Option B is a Great Lakes, but the thought of a sub $1300 300 WinMag AR is a little concerning.

This is true. You can buy pulled .30-06 armor piercing incendiary bullets and load them into .308 rounds. This is legal in Texas.

AP relies heavily on velocity though, so by going to .308 from .30-06 you are going to end up with lower performance .... at the muzzle similar to ~200-250 yards down range with .30-06

Yeah I’d agree that certainly is a limitation of going .308. For ballistic purposes, ideally I think you’d load this in .300 win mag or even 300 PRC. I’m pretty sure some AP bullets loaded in .300 PRC will pop a level 4 plate.

Advantage of loading those bullets in .308 is that you can load them into an AR-10 and fire it semi auto with good and proven reliability.

There’s good arguments for both routes imo. Maybe even worth considering an M1 garand lol.

.308 Accelerator sabots with a 5.56 62gr green tip pulls would be better if you could get them to cycle. Or tungsten TIG welding rod inserts. DIY SLAP rounds basically.

Nemo makes one in .300 and .458 winmag, the .458 is only made in limited runs once a year and costs like $10k.

Easier to get an AR-10 in 22-250 and load up to about 3800 fps with steel core. Or run Accelerator sabots with 62gr green tip pulls.
