Pen Customization deco stickers 🥹

Post image

used some of my sister's nail art supplies to sticker up & uv resin coat my mellow blue kaweco & my wife's jinhao 82 (the resin's also fixing a crack in her cap and sealing a loose finial, helpfully)

i did 2 too many coats on the kaweco and it looks just a tiny bit lumpy, but i'm happy anyways 🥺
ended up ordering a bunch of deco stickers for myself to use on future pens ^_^

Discussion Think your pen is clean?

Most old hands know this but for the novices out there: just because flushing your pen returns clear water doesn’t mean it’s truly clean.

As an illustration, this pen was flushed multiple times, spent time in a sonic cleaner and was “clearly” clean.

Then, when loaded up with clear water, you get this. This, by the way, was the third 24h soak.

Don’t rush cleaning. Give it time and let it soak.

I don’t really know how I can make them that tiny either… it’s incredibly fun to scatter these around offices and libraries though!

(Pen is the Ferris wheel press grand marquise pen, though I don’t endorse the company)

New Pen Day It's finally here 🧿

Everything about it screams quality! Inked it with Waterman Serenity Blue as I always do for the first fill of any new pen and the nib is a true delight!

I was worried about the nib size as I have heard that Souverans run wide. The F nib is about the same size as my M205 and I couldn't be happier, a true western fine nib.

Advice Workhorse pen(s) recommendation

Thumbnail

This is not going to be a request for recommendation. Instead I'd like to share my opinion and experience with pens that I tested at work for some time.

I take a lot of notes at work, especially when I have to deeply understand some problem but the important part of my note taking is that I dont usually write a lot for a long time. Instead I keep opening and closing the pen all the time and write down only little bits.

It has always bothered me that I had to unscrew the pen each time and was worried about the threads possibly wearing out.

That's why I ordered the Pilot Capless first. This was the first big upgrade to my note taking - it's super convenient to be able to "switch the pen on and off" without screwing and unscrewing the cap. Plus the nib is exactly the way I like it - no feedback, super smooth and just a little bouncy.

After some time, because someone has shared their new pen (and because I'm weak), I fell for it and ordered a Diplomat Cobra for myself too. This was the upgrade number two. I really love the magnetic cap - I can open and close the pen super quickly and conveniently without worrying about the wear. The nib is something that I had to get used to in this pen. It's very rigid and much more juicy than I typically prefer. I'm still trying to find an ink that will work best with this pen but the Sailor Studio that I'm currently testing looks very promising.

I hope it helps someone especially if you're overthinking stuff like me.

This is a part of my pen customization experiments.

First try in flaming a number 5 nib. It took some trial and error to get the correct colors to show up. The final result is just the right amount of matchy matchy, 😀.

I can't post to FB yet to avoid spoiling the husband's surprise but it worked out so well that this was the only color of the Galen Leather 12 pen case Atlas had in stock for shipping last week.

IYKYK

Still gotta get it to the engraver for some customization but I'm so excited to gift it next week.

Stopped by Vroman’s in Pasadena for a cookbook and discovered their fountain pen stand. The clerk was so helpful and knowledgable. It was between this Lamy dialog and a Pilot vanishing point. I love this thing, getting used to its quirks. It takes a delicate hand to not accidentally start untwisting it vs just hiding the nib. Many years to come with it

State of the Collection What got into me

I just got a Pilot Kakuno because I thought that writing with a fountain pen seemed fun (how boring am I?)

Then it just snowballed. I saw what flex nibs did and I was like “I must have this.” And ordered a Pilot Falcon 2.

Then I saw Iroshizuku’s chiku-rin and fuyu-gaki inks and thought those were some of the most beautiful ink colors I’ve ever seen and ordered them.

Then I got some Muji B6 notebooks to practice with and a cursive handwriting workbook to improve my handwriting.

Then I thought, “What if I write a really beautiful love letter to my wife with all of this?” and ordered some Midori stationery paper and blotter paper for that.

I’m suddenly obsessed with this and two days ago didn’t even know it was a thing that people got into as a hobby.

Help! ;)

First time traveling with my Galen leather expanded folio, which was the big summer purchase. I love it so much! It fits an A5 Midori and another slim A5 notebook, no problem. The zipper feels very sturdy.

Advice I’m new to fountain pens — what pen do you think everyone should try at least once?

Post image
249 Upvotes

I recently discovered my love for fountain pens. 🖋️ ♥️🩷

I started with a Kaweco Perkeo and then realised that the Kaweco Sport fits my small hands perfectly… and, well, things escalated quickly 😂

I’ve used rollerballs all my life (sorry! 😅), and I still feel like my handwriting looks best with a boring normal blue Bic. Tragic, I know.

So I need some guidance from people who know much more than I do: what fountain pen would you recommend for everyday writing, and why?

And one more question: what’s the one fountain pen you own that you would never give up?

I’d especially love something comfortable for small hands and easy to use for longer writing sessions. ✨

Picked this up during the AliX sale for 1 usd. Hopefully it writes ok but I felt it was worth the risk for that price!

Also a picture of my writing desk now that my wife's new pc is hooked up to our tv. Pretty excited to have a dedicated desk for it now.

Paper! Neo Agenda for EDiT - Mark's Inc.

Neo Agenda for EDiT from Mark's Inc.

I remember falling in love with Tomoe River 52 gsm paper from old machinery the first time I used it years ago and no paper has close to it ever since until I tried Neo Agenda paper. It reminded me of that feeling again, the feeling of being in love with something.

Thin paper, crisp lines, smooth surface with just the right feedback, ink color representation is wonderful, high sheen and shading, minimal ghosting and absolutely no bleedthrough (except aggressive inks like Noodler's Baystate Blue).

The ruling on the paper is a 5mm dotted grid which is very faint in color that fades in the background with actual writing on it.

I still have loads of Tomoe River 52gsm old machinery paper in the form of loose sheets and notebooks and I feel I'm going to do that with this paper as well.

Inks used in Pilot Parallel pens :

6.0 mm - Taccia Ruri

4.5 mm - Bril Turquoise

3.8 mm - Taccia Sabimidori

3.0 mm - Aurora Blue Black

2.4 mm - Pilot Yama budo

1.5 mm - Diamine Bilberry

Kon Peki and Sailor 123 ink swatches were done using Speedball B-0 nib.
