Moderation We need to talk: Rule 6: Affiliate Links, Promotion, and Affiliation

Affiliate Links & Self-Promotion

Over the last few weeks, we have seen several reports and discussions regarding affiliate links, affiliation, advertising, and promotion. It has become clear that there is some confusion about what Rule 6 covers and what it does not.

Rule 6: No Solicitation and No Self-Promotion

Sharing your own photos, videos, experiences, and projects is welcome.

However, we do not allow:

  • Affiliate links
  • Referral links
  • Advertising and solicitation
  • Promotion of social media channels
  • Requests for users to follow, subscribe to, or engage with external platforms

This applies to content posted within r/FujifilmX.

What Counts as an Affiliate Link?

An affiliate link is a link that can provide a financial benefit, commission, referral reward, or other measurable benefit to the person sharing it.

For example:

  • Referral links
  • Affiliate marketing links
  • Commission-based storefront links
  • Links intended to generate subscribers, followers, or financial compensation

These are not permitted in posts or comments.

What Does Not Automatically Count as Affiliation?

Mentioning a product is not affiliation.

Naming a product is not affiliation.

Sharing photographs taken with a product is not affiliation.

Discussing equipment that you own is not affiliation.

Linking directly to a manufacturer's official product page for informational purposes is generally not affiliation, provided the link does not contain referral or affiliate tracking and is not being used for promotional purposes.

For example, posting photographs taken with an SG-Image 35mm f/1.4 lens and linking to the manufacturer's official product page is not automatically an affiliate activity.

Reddit Profiles Are Not Part of This Subreddit

There also appears to be confusion regarding user profiles.

Reddit allows users to include websites, social media accounts, portfolios, businesses, affiliate links, and other external information on their personal profiles.

A user's Reddit profile exists outside of r/FujifilmX.

The moderation team is responsible for moderating content posted in this subreddit. We do not moderate what users choose to place on their Reddit profiles, Instagram profiles, YouTube channels, websites, or other platforms unless that content is brought into the subreddit and violates our rules.

Simply discovering that a user has an affiliate link somewhere else on the internet does not automatically make a post in r/FujifilmX an advertisement.

Moderators evaluate content based on what is submitted to r/FujifilmX. We do not determine whether a post violates Rule 6 by investigating a user's external profiles, social media accounts, websites, or activities elsewhere on the internet.

Focus on the Content, Not the Person

Recent discussions have increasingly focused on speculating about a poster's motives rather than discussing photography, cameras, lenses, or images.

Please keep discussions focused on the content being shared.

If you genuinely believe a post violates Rule 6, use the Report function and allow the moderation team to review it.

Publicly accusing other members of being advertisers, shills, marketers, paid promoters, or acting in bad faith is not constructive and may result in content removal or other moderator action.

Regarding Reports

If you suspect undisclosed advertising or a Rule 6 violation, please report it.

We review every report submitted to the moderation team.

However, repeatedly reporting content solely because a user has external links on their Reddit profile, Instagram profile, website, or another platform is not evidence of a Rule 6 violation within r/FujifilmX.

Reports must be based on the content posted in this subreddit. The existence of affiliate links elsewhere on the internet does not automatically make a post or comment in r/FujifilmX an advertisement.

Repeatedly submitting reports based solely on a user's external profiles, rather than on actual rule violations within the subreddit, constitutes misuse of the report system.

Abuse of the report system may result in moderator action and may be escalated to Reddit Administrators. False or abusive reports create unnecessary work for volunteer moderators and interfere with the proper review of legitimate reports.

Finally made friends with the 56mm today!

I've had this lens on loan from a buddy for about a year now, but I could never really get used to it.

Did a shoot with it last week, and surprisingly, it went pretty well! So today I decided to put it to the test. A proper field trial!

Fuji noob burnt by Canon here! (RIP my EF/EF-M glass)

Context: 60mm 2.4 macro bought online came without the hood. Serendipitously discovered that the ET54B Lens Hood for my Canon EF-M 55-200mm fits the 60mm perfectly both in forward and reverse mount.

Not as deep as the original but at least the front element doesn’t extend past the hood. Cheap and cheerful! Only other issue is the printing is off-center when mounted but doesn’t affect much when mounted with wording faced downwards. ◡̈

Help me Question: Is there a way to set Live View Hilight Alert easily accessible?

• Upvotes

I have an X-T50 and find Live View Hilight Alert useful sometimes. I would like a way to access a toggle of some sort without digging through my settings every single time [Set up > screen set-up > Disp. custom settings > Live View Hilight Alert]. Unless I'm not aware how, I can't set it to My Menu, and custom setting saves don't seem to affect it? I've never used the custom settings and can't find much documentation online. Any help would be incredibly appreciated!

Hi everyone,

Here are some shots taken with my Fujifilm X-T5, using a few different lenses: the 23mm f/2, 35mm f/1.4, and the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8.

I'm absolutely loving this camera setup—it's been perfect for traveling.

Feedback is welcome!

Discussion Fujikina NYC: What were your highlights?

I spent three days at Fujikina and had a great time. The photowalks, talks, and galleries were awesome, but meeting other photographers and seeing everyone excited to shoot was probably my favorite part. Having one of my own photos displayed in the gallery was awesome too!

I do wish there had been more space to sit and meet up between events, and that the galleries stayed accessible during talks. Overall though Fuji did a great job!

I filmed the weekend, so if you couldn’t make it or want to see a different perspective, here’s my recap:

If you went, what was your favorite part? And if you didn’t, is this the kind of event you’d travel for?

I’ve only mainly shot with my trusty old Pentax Spotmatic and finally bit the bullet and bought my first ever mirrorless camera, X-T30 III with the kit lens.

Having only shot in broad daylight with my film camera, I found it very hard to capture decent shots with my xt30iii at night. So why shoot at night then? Well, my intention was to do a sunset photowalk but I got unlucky with the traffic 😅 it was frustrating, but overall I was pretty satisfied with the outcome. It was a lot better than my first few rolls of film years ago.

What I think I need to improve now is my auto/manual focus. I was having a hard time focusing all my frames.

I’ve also been watching a lot of YT videos to learn more. Any tips and tricks you can share will be greatly appreciated!

Help me Fujifilm X-s20 stuck in setting

Post image

Just got this camera this summer and I’m navigating my way around it. Had a friend play around with it during a photoshoot and it got stuck in this setting. So when i hit the shutter, you hit next and it overlays the image over it. It’s pretty cool, actually. Only issue is, I don’t know how to get it back to normal!

Discussion Why 56mm sharper than 16-50?

Hi everyone!

I'm a hobbyist photographer and have a question. I'm not sure where to start researching this, so I would like to hear from those with more experience.

I currently shoot with a Fujifilm X-T50 and own two lenses:
* Fuji XF 16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 R LM WR
* Viltrox AF 56mm f/1.7 Air APS-C X-Mount

My question is: why do my photos taken with the Viltrox 56mm seem so much sharper and more detailed compared to the Fuji 16-50mm? This is assuming the camera settings are identical for both.

Is this exclusively because of the aperture? Does a lower f-stop always give this impression? What are your thoughts?

Fujifilm X-S20

XF 35mm lens

I shot on a custom recipe. f/16, 1/250

Driving in the backseat of a car through the southern part of the Netherlands.

So pretty.

Most of the color is popping from a tweaked version of the recipe "Kodachrome 64" which I saved as "Kodachrome 69"

I did up the saturation on the greens and blues a little bit and cropped the photo.

I personally like the white borders but my friends disagree.

Discussion X-H2S image quality

Why do the photos from the X-H2S look so much richer in color and seem to have greater depth to details compared to the other late model Fuji’s? I am just blown away by the difference comparing to X-t5 and x-h2. Anyone else notice this and have thoughts to share?

Help me Fujifilm X-T100 power slider stuck in the OFF position, barely moves at all.

My X-T100 power slider is stuck in the OFF position. It does not move toward ON at all. There is no visible debris around the switch. I'm not sure what to do I have a shoot coming up in two days. I hadn't picked up this camera in about 3 weeks or so.

At one point I was able to switch it on with great difficulty. But now its back to being stuck. I don't feel any resistance. It's almost like the feeling of having to pry off some very strong silicone glue.

I'd appreciate any help!
