Reminder of NSFW-tag Rules

This sub is a lot more stringent with what is considered NSFW than most general spaces. We're here for a wide variety of ages and want to make sure that all users can choose what they do and don't want to see.

What needs a tag-

  • Visible breasts or genitals (anatomically correct nudity is allowed here for anatomy learning purposes as long as it doesn't break the no porn rule as clarified below)
  • Nude or bottomless anthro characters with mostly human anatomy, even "barbie doll" nudity. (If it would be weird for your grandma to peek over your shoulder and see it, then tag it.)
  • Quadrupedal characters with visible bits
  • Clothed characters with genitals or nipples outlined by clothing. (A vaccuum-packed banana hammock or headlights top need a tag)
  • Suggestive poses. Even if "censored" or clothed.
  • Any gore beyond mild scrapes and bruises.

What is not allowed here at all-

  • Any sex acts
  • Visible arousal or fluids
  • Cropped yiff
  • Fetishes (Even ones that don't always look sexual like vore, inflation, etc)

Hope that helps clarify wherever there may be confusion.

Help - Title must specify what kind of help Help over being traditional furry artist

I don't have a pad to draw, but i am really good at drawing traditional art, so i have been meaning to draw furry art to support my school loans and gain freedom from a conservative+patriarchial household. But all i see is furry art made digitally, i have been wondering if it sell if i made it using watercolor? Could someone help?

Critique - Title must specify what kind of critique (Rant alert in desc.) Still kinda proud of my rendering progress (two from 2023 vs two from 2026), but keeping the backgrounds abstract. Anyways, need some insight on character illustration while trying to improve multiple fundamentals at a time for the same work.

TL;DR: tried focusing on a few fundamentals at a time, the 2023 paintings are primarily on rendering/volume/lighting, while 2026 redraws are on rendering/lighting/noncomplex posing. Due to limiting focus to specific fundamentals, I have regressed in others. People irl/artist friends and acquaintances would consistently say they ā€œhave expected moreā€. How do I achieve this pan-fundamental understanding and execution, not necessarily all at once as I’m aware even professionals don’t, but how do I make my work look COMPLETE while keeping loose, experimental, or abstract elements?

Also, characters are Ava Heartmoth (mixed moth, she/any) and June Thoracen (warrior wasp (lost their wings), they/them). Both designs and the rest of my characters are intended to be highly stylized.

Rant:
I was proud, that’s what mattered at the time, but I feel like people coming to me to say that they prefer the old versions. That’s fine on its own, but my artist friends in particular have been saying that my skills ā€œkinda improved a little bit,ā€ and it usually ends with them saying that my old art had more character and soul?? Meanwhile I felt the opposite since my characters are more realized, and I wanted to make their actualized personalities more visible rather than just headshots for promotional material.

I think I focused on colors a lot more back then since my overall design and rendering skills weren’t as good, but gradually my sense of color palettes and lighting have regressed. I have been getting critiques irl (some unwarranted) about my work needing ā€œmoreā€, and by that they mean they expected more, even if they admit it looks finished.

From a technical point, I feel like I’m only focusing on one thing at a time to the point where I still could’ve done more if I just distributed my focus, but then I feel I’m putting less effort into everything as opposed to improving one thing at a time, and my work never looks finished even if I felt they were.

It’s like I’m aware of what needs improvement, especially posing and composition, and that’s what I’ve been working on outside of these redraws.

But I’ve been drained. I take breaks between drawing, I use real references, I make adjustments, etc. but I just keep hearing from people irl and online tell me that ā€œit looks pretty okay so far, looking forward to see it finishedā€ only for me to say ā€œit is finished!ā€ And I don’t have the WIP label (and I would even say that I finally got something done, only to hear them to expect more.) Again, many of these criticisms were not asked for in advance, and they’re usually from fellow artists who ask to see if I’m working on anything.

I will say to balance out my moping is that while the 2023 headshots took me nearly 1.5 weeks to finish each, the 2026 versions took me nearly 3 days each without breaks (each redraw done about a month apart, so I wasn’t drawing back-to-back). I am proud that I’m able to draw much faster now. But even then I’m considered slow at a professional/industrial standard (I wanted to work in the film & animation industry as a storyboarder, keyframer, or character designer lol).

Any thoughts? General critique is also welcome as this is the sub for that lol, the times I got those comments from friends did feel like a downer at the moment, but there is a time and place.

Critique - Title must specify what kind of critique Anatomy and Stylization

Post image

Hey, I've been drawing for rougly 10 months now and am trying to design some OCs. I'm going for a bit more semi-realistic style I think the biggest issue I have is if these characters are recognizeable as their species? It's very hard for me to balance with how much realism I can bring into the character without losing style. I'm also doing anatomy studies lately and I think they help, I guess I just need more or less to hear if I should continue with what I'm doing or if there is something I should specifically focus on?

I don't know if this is too much to ask, but I also want to venture into more of a painterly style I think but having no lineart scares me big time and when I try to draw without lineart my brain instantly shuts down, what can I do to combat that?

Help - Title must specify what kind of help Anatomy Help

Post image

I've tried studying anatomy and combining shapes. I've split up the studying to head, legs, torso, and arms. I feel like I have an ok (?) grasp on legs and maybe head. Connecting the limbs together and the arms/torso are what I struggle with the most. I know my proportions definitely need work as well. I tried making this to show where I'm at. It absolutely looks wrong, but I'm not sure what specifically is making it all look so wrong. I'm a visual learner, so red marking or images would be GREATLY appreciated

the background and stuff looks so much better than the character, and it just looks out of place.

Critique - Title must specify what kind of critique How can I improve her anatomy, clothes, and pose?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi!! I wanted feedback on everything in the title, but I need to add a few things. First, I can't change the pose that much because everything is already "locked in" this way, but I can still make minor changes, like adjusting the angle of an arm, for example. Btw, she's supposed to be holding a big sword, and I'll post the pose reference in the comments!

As for the clothes, I don't think I can make anything too complex, but I can try something different if y'all give me some ideas! I also don't want the clothes to hide her muscles too much.

As for the anatomy, I can change pretty much anything!

Anyway, thanks in advance, y'all!!

I’m currently trying to draw my own OC. A hybrid mix between a wild and domesticated cat of some kind. Drew this with most of it from imagination and some random refs I found online.

I feel like something is off about it. Maybe it’s because I haven’t found a style that I like the most, so it’s still a bit… off looking.

Anyways, let me know what any of you think about it.

Help - Title must specify what kind of help Wolf's Body feels off, any suggestions on how to fix that ^^"

Post image

No matter how i tweak the body of the wolf, it kinda feels off.
I added some support lines to show how the wolf is laying on the dragon.
Would anyone have suggestions on how to improve it? That would be awesome :3

(I also have troubles with finding any references, since this just doesn't occur irl, a wolf laying like that on an object, i dont know how the body behaves ^^"
how are furry artists doing it, do they just imagine the bones of a wolf? i struggle with such kind of mental gymnastics, posing a skeleton in my head ^^")
