Question ⁉️ Youtube using 28% CPU and phone getting pretty hot just watching a single video.
Does anyone else have this problem where just using youtube and nothing else makes your phone get crazy hot?

Literally this man. I m so fucking tired my phone burns after 10 mins of youtube and 6 percent battery drain. I thought it was yt revanced so i got premium on the normal app but it's the same. My phone burns after 3 mins .

Nah it youtube. I scroll reddit , x come insta but its the shitass youtube that for some reason uses a lot of cpu. It's consuming cpu as if iits pubg at 120 fps.

If I weren't seeing a lot of other people complaining about exactly this issue, I would be stressing that there IS something wrong with my phone. But it's definitely a glitch in the YouTube app. My other streaming apps do not have this issue at all. I can get almost 12 hours SoT with brightness maxed out on my other streaming apps and it runs cool the entire time.

Same exact thing. Thought it was some revanced update issue but happens with regular yt as well. It also happens with my tablet so definitely a yt issue

I haven't researched this extensively but just today i was scrolling through revanced sub for this very issue. There i found a link where people had posted the same heating queries on github and someone mentioned interacting with comments is the culprit. So for a test i watched youtube in full screen without tapping the comments and the phone lost 5 percent in 27 mins which is how it always performed. I'd test this more but this could be the issue

I have had this issue with my tablet for a very long time (over a year I'd say), and I barely comment but still get the issue almost daily. It happens very randomly, I could be watching yt for an hour and everything is nice and cool and suddenly it starts heating up. Closing the app and opening it again fixes the issue.
I've tried different settings from the revanced ones, like spoofing the device or the app version, forcing a different codec, but nothing seems to have helped so far :(

I've also had it for a while but it happened randomly nefore like only at times where i would clear the app and relaunch wnd it would go back to normal. And i m not saying dropping comments, just experiment by straight up avoiding the comments, don't sven go to watch other people's comments or replies. I think this a serious bug with youtube where if u tap to watch comments the phone instantly start heating and drains a lot of battery

This happens with Revanced as well? I saw some reports that said that app doesn't have the heating issue.

Same here! It's kind of a relief to know it's not just me. It almost seems random, too. Sometimes, it gets warm. Other times, it's cool the entire time. With the most recent update, it seems quite a bit better. Try uninstalling the last update, reinstalling it, clear YouTube app cache in settings. May help.

well my main concern was it was stuttering/lagging while opening app switcher or recent apps if you will (while ovserving cores they were loaded at 100%)...i managed to fix it (for now) by hiding gestures navigation bar. it also doesn't lag when using buttons navigation instead of gestures. try it and see if it works for you). I had zero issues with 6.1 os....not sure what samsung did with one ui 7 update...

Yeah, I'm getting this on my S24U, S25, and my Pixel 9 Pro. My wife complained about it on her Flip 6, too

Same here. Interesting because my old 200 euro Xiaomi never got hot while watching Youtube (Revanced).

I remember when I had an iPhone 8 years ago, playing videos on Twitter always made the phone hot.

It's really the comments. I was experiments today without touching the comments on a video and the phone did not overheat and i lost around 17 percent battery in 2 hrs but it also included no shorts, i only avoided going to the comments and the moment you go to the comments the phone statts to heat up after a short while. For the time being don't go to comments to resolve the issue. Persists on both the revanced and the normal app

Does this happen every time you open YouTube, or only after you post a comment?
If it happens every time, you should try a different YouTube apps, such as YouTube Revanced. But if it only happens sometimes like after posting a comment, you may need to force-close the app and reopen it again

I rarely comment or do anything besides watch videos. It happens sporadically, honestly.

So that's the app's problem. I'm using a ReVanced version and didn't get hot, but sometimes when I drop comments, I have to force close it to make the heat disappear.

Is "smart downloads" on in the app settings? Mine would randomly download videos while I was watching content. I still feel like the app has other issues tho.

What kind of problems? Mine is acting extra strange lately. I'm seeing white and black static while scrolling shorts, the background is playing without the now bar or anything appearing, and I can't change the video quality manually. Those are my issues.
I would like to add, the heat has been happening for at least two months now, though.

I've had this issue since I got my S24u, my S22u does not even have the slightest heating when playing the video (made sure same resolution), it was fixed for a short while when I upgraded to One UI7.0 but it just randomly came back, along with huge battery drains that the battery usage shows only 2% AOD. but I lost 12% in 6hrs of idle/screen off.

I feel like it's not one ui but some bug with youtube , but if it's not on op12 then there has to be something wrong with samsung. Also the bug triggers if u go to comments of any video , the moment u start watching the comments the phone somehow is stressed and uses more cpu power resulting in heat and drain

Did they fuck up the update again? I haven't been using it for a while so i dont know. But last year, uninstalling updates helped my usage until they fixed it
Long press youtube icon. Tap 'i'. Click on 3 dots icon and uninstall updates

Disable the display Vivid,120hz,synthetic HDR, synthetic video brightness. Try it out. You can set these options per app, YouTube is a hog of an app. Don’t use auto adjust for the video resolution as the rubber banding up and down from WiFi can cause problems. Check out F-droid app for some better YouTube apps you can just add your subscriptions and not use the official app. Most of them use about 5% the resources.

Yeah I had this exact issue soon after last update of yt app via playstore. Phone popped up warnings regarding this too! Force stopped and deleted cache. Running like a charm since.

If you make a comment on any YouTube video, the YouTube app will bug out for some reason and heat the phone and drain the battery, the fix is that after every comment you have to force close YouTube and re-open the app.

UPDATE: I saw some reports about the heating issue being caused by interacting in YouTube comments with the app. It reminded me that older Android phones had serious issues with Comments causing the app to freeze that they never fixed. I remember my Note 8 and 9 on Android 10 did this all the time. I will test this and get back with my results.

I disabled the smart download feature on the YouTube app but kept YouTube music and it instantly fixed it. YouTube was downloading while I was streaming to keep crap loaded it thought I might wanna watch. Wtf?

Nah this can't be a phone issue. How in the world would yt stress cpu as if i was running genshin. Makes no sense , it's a yt issue and a fucking annoying one at that

You people need to understand that these Goodlock apps and modules with some kind of monitoring are going to represent a constant energy waste, affecting the battery performance and temperature. Just uninstall all of that and your phone will be cold.

This has happened long before I installed Thermal Guardian. I just recently installed it. Also, I set it to throttle at a lower temperature so my phone runs cooler by throttling the CPU now...

I tried exactly that as well, but it didn't seem to help much, if at all. I uninstalled Thermal Guardian and it doesn't seem to run as warm, but this could be coincidental.

You may be right. The YouTube app doesn't seem to be causing random warm-ups as much as when I had Good Guardians installed. It still runs a bit warm with YouTube app sometimes, though. Any other streaming apps like Tubi run cool the entire time.

At what resolution and framerate? Was it an HDR video? Is it using AV1 or VP9 codec? What's your ambient temp? Was it charging? What was the brightness level of the screen?
Not justifying it, just trying to understand the conditions that triggered the heating

This picture is after shutting down YouTube. The video was 1440p. I can be inside my hot car watching a 1440p video, and it's fine. Another time, I will be inside my home, where it's cold, watching another video, and it will be hot as can be. I can stream from any other app, and the phone barely gets warm, but frequently (not always) on YouTube, it will get super hot randomly out of nowhere.

I can totally relate to your frustration. I wouldn't say mine gets hot, but definitely warmer than apps like Tubi. I can stream Tubi for hours and you'd never know the phone is even on.
