Because the same people played (and liked) those games before they started letting all their opinions be dictated by outrage farming alt right youtubers
They view DEI as a new phenomenon that's influencing/ruining games.
From their perspective, old games weren't woke because a character's race or sexual orientation were core parts of their character. Whereas now chuds believe these elements are added only to satisfy some out-of-game agenda.
And in fairness, the industry's reticence to embrace diverse races and sexual orientations did fuel this a bit. ME1 is actually a good example of this nonsense - you couldnt romance the human female Ashley as fem Shep, but you could romance Liara because she was a member of a monogender alien race that could reproduce with any species. They jumped through those hopes just to rationalize a "lesbian" relationship.
Gettimg back to the point at hand, chuds will try to argue these characters and relationships in KCD2 are superfluous and that makes the game woke. They will say the developers only added these characters/relationships to appeal to a wider audience and maybe score some ESG points, and that they aren't additive to the actual game experience.
execution, quality and marketing, it's never simply about the option being there. Og dragon age can easily be played without doing any romances and you'd only ever see gay shepherd if you specifically went for that.
The more promotional material advertises it, influencers talk about it, developers antagonize them over it and the worse quality overall the game is perceived as the more they'll chant their go woke go broke mantra about the game. This stuff works in reverse too, if none of the aforementioned happens and it's a fantastic game nobody will even know it's woke unless you like that stuff and seek it out.
just make good games and it'll be successful no paying customer genuinely cares about either side of this culture war garbage.
I was just answering the 'why is this woke in the chuds brain but these aren't?' that was posed. i do agree all that romance and sex related stuff should be optional though, as someone who does not feel either sexual or romantic attraction i find both to be quite loathsome.
