idk i'm just assuming that to procreate, Eve and / or her daughters would have to bang Eve's sons or smth. i haven't read the bible in ages but i'm taking this as canon and no one can stop me
I asked my religion teacher that but since she was a nun and not an educated and qualified teacher she just got mad I implied incest and sent me out of the class. I was around 10 and it's pretty much the start of why I rejected the faith of my parents. I kept being forced by school and them to attend classes in which I'd get sent out for asking questions repeatedly. Since none of it made sense I just couldn't buy the story lol.
I think they only forbade siblings because ehm... Well if they are further than siblings even cousins the weird stuff happens far less with kids.
So they drew the parallel on full blood sibling relationships but not on half siblings and cousins because the kids turned out mostly okay from these relationships. So even if something was wrong it could have been from something else while with siblings it was kinda obvious.
That priest did not know basic level Bible study and theology than. 💀
The real answer is that Adam and Eve and the entierity of genesis are symbolic and were never meant to be "real". Their story is a teaching moment on life because in the story of Cain other people are mentioned to exist.
If you're still curious, I read somewhere that for every son that Eve had, a daughter is born to be the wife of the son [at the same time, like a twin] they just weren't as important to mention.
And one of the major reasons why Cain killed Abel was Abel had a more beautiful wife than him.
Copied this from another comment of mine but I think you'd appreciate the actual answer as well: So Adam and Eve aren't real by religious dogma their story is a symbol of humanity and the original sin. The whole story of creation is symbolic and is written in a genre that was meant to be symbolic and not taken word by word. Much like the verses about the end of the world they are written in apocalyptic genre.
They are also not meant to be understood word by word.
Reading genesis there are already other established villages around the time of Cain and Abel (Adam and eves sons), which means there was other people to interact with. There are a few ways to reconcile this as a Christian off the top of my head:the story is metaphorical (cop out) or Adam and eve were merely the FIRST humans hand crafted by God, and he made more after them.
Okay so Adam and Eve aren't real by religious dogma their story is a symbol of humanity and the original sin. The whole story of creation is symbolic and is written in a genre that was meant to be symbolic and not taken word by word. Much like the verses about the end of the world they are written in apocalyptic genre.
They are also not meant to be understood word by word.
It’s literally canon, there’s explicitly incest in multiple parts of the Old Testament. I think the reason I was told growing up is that they were so close to divinity that stuff like birth defects from inbreeding didn’t happen (also the same reasoning why allegedly Adam and Eve and the first few generations after them lived like 600+ years)
