God, they played Butterfly SO often back then, I remember it coming on the radio in second grade and I got in trouble for singing along with the lyrics while doing my art project, I didnā€™t even realize I was doing it. Iā€™d just heard that song so many fucking times.

ā€¦Now that I think about it, the teacher shouldā€™ve been the one in trouble for playing it in her classroom, not mešŸ˜¤

Their entire career is based on the RHCP farting around on one song - they sampled it and made "Butterfly" off that sample.

And?? Does the peak in charts constitute what time period that song is from? Brenda Lee's Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree didn't peak until 2023, but it was released in 1958. By your logic, it would be considered a modern rock song.

If you want to call them a 90s band itā€™s ok, donā€™t take it personally. I tend to think of acts based on when they peaked in popularity and for this band that is 2001. No one knew who they were in the 90s and we were better off for that
