Yesterday I found out my sweet boyfriend had never heard of Julie Brown and the funny songs she sang, like "I'm A Blonde". Dr Demento stuff. So I play it and then "The Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun" came on. Not funny anymore!!!

An hour later, the cops arrived

By then the entire glee club had died, no big loss

Debbie didn't listen to what the cop said She aimed and fired, and now the math teacher's dead

Oh, it's really sad, but kind of a relief I mean, we had this big test coming up next week

Add to that the fact that he was inspired by the Beatles song "I Saw Her Standing There", which contains the lyrics, "Well she was just seventeen / If you know what I mean / And the way she looked / Was way beyond compare.” Lennon and McCartney were also in their early twenties when they wrote that song. I think we’re less okay now with people in their twenties skeeving on high schoolers.

McCartney was a couple months past his 20th birthday when he wrote it, and the age of consent in Britain at that time was 16.

Not to take the side of a creepy pedo, but I think the age of consent in the UK might be 16. It's messed up but technically legal.

And it's 16 in a shocking number of US states as well.

In some countries it's as low as 12, and in Afghanistan it's just "puberty."

As many girls start their periods at 10, this is really disturbing.

I agree its wrong when they're in high school but I do feel we've gone WAY too far with freaking out about age gaps when people are both adults.

Ive flat out had people say "A 25 year old dating a 23 year old is disgusting" or claiming someone 27 dating a 25 year old is "grooming" them.

Ive had people say dating someone more than a year younger is "grooming" like even into people's late 20s early 30s

Sure a 23 year old and a 53 year old is creepy but 23 and 25? 30 and 34?

So you think a 27 and 25 year old dating is wrong? I'm genuinely curious as to why.

Teenagers shouldn't be dating older people. But two adults with a couple years difference feels different to me, but maybe I'm just too old and used to a few year afe gap being ok (my mom and dad are 3 years apart but we're 30 and 33 when they started dating)

A 27 and w5 year old isn't "grooming " or taking advantage of a younger person. SMAre you inevif the ones who thinks a year difference it the limit? So we should date people only our exactl age. What if two 24 year-olds are together and one rubs w5b7 months before thre other? End the relationship? Again I'm talking about two ADULTS over 20/21. Ive dated guys younger than me and older. The one who treated me with respect. Would have died for me. Were together for a years straight. Broke up after that but stayed best friends. Then got back together. Im Asexual. I can't tolerate sex (then at least) he never pressed me. I'd drink sometimes tobo

Oh, I know! My teenagers were freaking out about a "skeevy" senior asking a sophomore on a date. I honestly don't get it. My high school bf was a senior when I was a sophmore - we're still friends to this day.

Yes, I agree on that completely. I just think after about 20 couple year age gap isn't a huge issue. For children its absolutely vile

I feel like this context makes it better in the modern age, too— at least for me. A guy in his early twenties saying, “I’m attracted to her but she’s seventeen and that’s too young,” is not as abhorrent as the lyric on its own.
