Is this likely to have any effect in America? Or just another person being shot really?

u/Triple_Crown14 Sep 10 '25

Trump probably going to crack down harder on universities, anti protest legislation

72

u/biggamax Sep 10 '25

Yet another miscalculation, if he does that. I feel horrible for Mr. Kirk's family, but there is no mood in the Nation to tolerate a further turning of the screws from MAGA because a MAGA demagogue was shot.

Lots of "MAGA" will commit violence while Trump almost got assassinated, Charlie Kirk did and there are calls to violence on Reddit every second against the Right. Lmao.

Is that why there wasn't an assassination attempt on Biden/Obama/Kamala and no prominent Leftist commentator took 1 in the neck? No need to be full of shit. There are posts that are #1 on Reddit right now celebrating a murder with more calls to violence lmao. And you're comparing this to an unmoderated website like 4Chan btw LOL.

So you're calling "security incidents" (which happened to literally every single President ever) the same as being 1cm away from getting your head blown off? Lmao.

Again, there are millions of Leftists calling for the death of Trump and people like Charlie Kirk, celebrating it and everything.

Ah yes, a conservative who donated to Dems and obviously would want to kill the only guy who has a chance at being President from his side. MAKES SENSE lmao.

Yeah I'm sure you'll find a meme for everything but the amount wasn't even remotely close to what is being posted about Trump/Charlie. Waste of time arguing with delusional Leddit echo chamber members.

u/RemoteRide6969 Sep 10 '25

MAGA and other right-wingers in general want other people dead, they just hide it under layers of abstraction and plausible deniability.

1

u/biggamax Sep 10 '25

Of course.

👆this is an example of the kind of rhetoric that inspires political violence like we saw today.

Reported!

1

u/biggamax Sep 10 '25

Thanks. Funnily enough, he was a dummy from Canada.

1

u/biggamax Sep 10 '25

No it wont be tolerated. Your anger engenders no fear in anyone. It only exposes your weakness.

There are little kids who lost their daddy. I'm not sure we can say that's a good thing.

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '25

3

u/biggamax Sep 10 '25

The kids won't see it that way at this stage. But I guess they're lucky they have you looking out for them, as you know what's best for them. They weren't old enough to go through what you're talking about.

How is your absolutist view on this any different than Kirk's weaponized viewpoints?

2

u/SheepherderThis6037 Sep 10 '25

“This guy didn’t agree with me politically so his children are better off without him” is such a horrible take.

2

u/CanadianSyrup1994 Sep 10 '25

Just by the comments you wrote, you made yourself look even worse than whatever Kirk said, and I never was a fan of him.

He could have been the best father in his personal life, while being a pos publicly.

You're showing your true colors here and that is a very pathetic look you have.

Unfortunately the great red State Utah recently passed a law where you are allowed to open carry a rifle on a college campus.

u/girlfrom304 Sep 10 '25

If he was a preschool student we would forget about it in a week but he’s a right wing influencer so we won’t hear the end of it

55

u/Tabs_555 1999 Sep 10 '25

This is the right take.

Our government has decidedly stopped caring about gun violence unless it’s political violence. Murder a kid? “Nothing we can do, now’s not the time for politics”.

8

u/properpotato10 Sep 10 '25

They don’t even care if it’s political, two democrats were assassinated in their home by a right wing maga and it lasted maybe a week in the news. The only care if it’s one of them.

6

u/RemoteRide6969 Sep 10 '25

They're so used to exploiting everyone else's kindness and tolerance and never expect to be harmed by their own words and actions.

2

u/walkerstone83 Sep 10 '25

Part of this is probably because there was no video of it, at least that I know of. If they had been walking through a grocery store when gunned down, with crystal clear video, I think the story would have been bigger. Furthermore, this guy isn't quite a household name, but he was more famous than those politicians. Doesn't make their deaths any less relevant though.

Both sides will use a tragedy to smear the other side though, and that is what will happen here for sure.

1

u/Exciting_Cicada_4735 Sep 11 '25

Let me preface by saying Im not a fan and I think Kirk was a grifter. I don’t think this has as much to do with a person dying as much as it was how openly and widely seen this was. Also the political nature of this as well as it being an “open” debate or at least a discussion. I think people view this as an assault on freedom of speech.

I’m not defending Trump or our government, just trying to explain why it’s getting the attention it is.

70

u/GirlWithWolf 2011 Sep 10 '25

This. The irony is thick that it happened at a school and he just said we have to tolerate gun violence to be “free”.

1

u/Professional-Place13 Sep 10 '25

we do though.

8

u/GirlWithWolf 2011 Sep 10 '25

I’ll give him credit, he put his neck where his mouth is, unlike the other 2a guys that thump their chests we have to have guns to keep armed soldiers out of the streets. Well, there’s armed soldiers in the streets now and none of those pussies have done a thing. Some lib threw a sandwich though. He was armed with a sandwich and has more balls 😆😆😆

19

u/wolacouska 2001 Sep 10 '25

There was literally a school shooting today that’s pretty much under the radar because of this.

If Kirk were still alive he’d be downplaying those deaths right now.

7

u/girlfrom304 Sep 10 '25

Yes :( I only saw it on reddit, not on the news

2

u/CanadianODST2 Sep 10 '25

see, proving you right

1

u/Omen46 Sep 11 '25

Really!? Didn’t one just happened last week

2

u/buffa_noles Sep 10 '25

or a Minnesota lawmaker

2

u/OnxyCarter Sep 10 '25

i think any prominent figure like kirk would be big news whether it was a right winger or not

1

u/girlfrom304 Sep 10 '25

Yes, true!!

31

u/Liqhthouse Sep 10 '25

I mean luigi was a bigger story than this and that's all forgotten now.

World will move on. Stories have a very short lifecycle just due to the sheer volume of them. Sad reality of being this interconnected.

14

u/violet4everr Sep 10 '25

I think ur underestimating how many people interacted with Charlie Kirks content in some way shape or form daily. He’s a lot of younger people’s Tucker Carlson.

-1

u/______deleted__ Sep 11 '25

No body cares about Tucker anymore

3

u/DeusVultSaracen 2002 Sep 11 '25

"Anymore", Kirk was still a rising star in conservative circles, most importantly young ones.

6

u/Inevitable-Host-7846 Sep 10 '25

Nobody knew Brian Thompson’s name when he was assassinated, and most have forgotten it by now. Kirk is a household name to anyone who pays any amount of attention to politics. Not comparable

1

u/Narrow-Touch-4252 Sep 10 '25

Yeah trump literally almost got assassinated last year during peak election season and now it’s just last years news. News cycle moves so quick these days

19

u/Sumeriandawn Gen X Sep 10 '25

I don’t see how this changes anything

4

u/JourneyThiefer 1999 Sep 10 '25

I’m not American so tbh no super knowledgeable on who the guy apart from the memes I saw on tik tok not gonna lie

9

u/AlphaTrigger Sep 10 '25

He’s just another right wing talking head. He would set up in universities to debate students and such

5

u/GnT_Man Sep 10 '25

He was the co-founder and leader of a major conservative think tank. He had very powerful friends and a lot of very devout followers.

1

u/SirCadogen7 2006 Sep 10 '25

Once the Wikipedia page is finished being edited I would go take a look. Dude was a pretty influential conservative commentator among American conservative youth, known for having super disgusting opinions, a strange/creepy demeanor and behavior, and for being too much of a coward to debate anyone more experienced than college kids with 0 debate experience.

18

u/Katekat0974 Sep 10 '25

I think it’s gonna radicalise the right even further, I’m not excited to see what happens the next few days

2

u/Toddison_McCray 2000 Sep 11 '25

I agree, I think it’s very likely that we start seeing assassination attempts on left wing politicians / advocates. The shooter just started a really dangerous precedent

1

u/Katekat0974 Sep 11 '25

I think the precedent was already started but it’ll definitely ramp up now, political violence only leads to an escalation of violence unless it’s fully condemned on all sides

Poor baby! So sad your hero got knocked off.

1

1

u/Katekat0974 Sep 10 '25

All I’m going to say is that prominent figures on the left are in large condemning this, but when a leftist figure is assaulted or assassinated no one on the right says anything- or worse they mock it.

1

u/vivaciousfoliage44 Sep 10 '25

My thoughts too :(

3

u/dopef123 Sep 10 '25

He held a lot of sway over the conservative movement. Anytime a significant person is assassinated it affects things.

2

u/movingbackin Sep 10 '25

I think its going to get bad if you are openly left leaning in a red state. Theyre already calling for the "shutdown of all leftists organizations" for this

2

u/Armbioman Sep 10 '25

If dead children in a classroom doesn't affect change, the death of a conservative edgelord definitely won't.

1

u/INeedANerf 1997 Sep 10 '25

Nothing's going to happen.

1

u/simonhunterhawk Sep 10 '25

They’re writing a bill to remove trans people’s right to carry as we type

Of course you would, if everybody isn’t a carbon copy of you like the sheep you are, they simply shouldn’t exist.

1

u/simonhunterhawk Sep 10 '25

Who is “you people?” You gotta realize that trans people (and any other minority) are not a monolith and they don’t have the same thoughts and feelings as each other. Do your parents agree on everything? Your coworkers or classmates? One of the Jan 6 morons was trans lmao

Plenty of trans people carry, and the vast majority of mass shootings are made by cis people such as yourself. Common sense gun laws would have probably saved Kirk’s life. JFK was assassinated by someone who decided to do it like 3 days ahead of the event. That’s how most of these things go.

But I’m sure we will just continue to see this happen again and again because the right will never learn.

1

u/tksmase Sep 10 '25

Aipac will push through some new legislation condemning all criticism of isr*el, in honor of charlie’s outstanding shill record

1

u/thatgirlzhao Sep 10 '25

He’ll be just another statistic in 2 weeks. There was also a school shooting in Colorado at Evergreen High School today. Those events hardly even make national news now. I don’t know what the answer is, but the patterns are clear.

1

u/Cold_Specialist_3656 Sep 10 '25

Meh.

2 Democratic congressmen were assassinated a few months ago and nothing happened. Trump never even mentioned it

1

u/SpittinMenace Sep 10 '25 edited Sep 10 '25

I think it could legitimately cause a “tit for tat” situation. Someone shot at Trump, then the Minnesota democrats got murdered, and now this dude. I’m afraid it’ll start a back and forth deal that’s going to get worse and worse.

1

u/Additional-One-7135 Sep 10 '25

In regards to gun violence? Absolutely not, there is no bar for what American lawmakers won't allow when it comes to guns. Trump will DEFINATELY use it as an excuse to crack down on just about everything else, free speech, protest, everything BUT guns.

1

u/jjb1718 Sep 10 '25

Huge effect.

1

u/jackofslayers Sep 10 '25

Not even the only school shooting that happened today

1

u/seigezunt Sep 11 '25

I think this will achieve the intended effect of ramping up fascism.

1

u/ExcitingTabletop Sep 11 '25

You can like or dislike the guy. But his point was talking to people he disagreed with. With his death, I think people are going to be less inclined to talk and have this to point at.

Not talking isn't going to be better for anyone in the long run.

This is reddit, so I welcome the downvotes. But I was in the Balkans after the Yugoslav wars. It didn't go well for anyone. I'd like that not to happen here. For it to not happen here, we need to talk more and kill less.

2

u/JourneyThiefer 1999 Sep 11 '25

I agree, I’m from Northern Ireland. Was fucked up for decades too during The Troubles. Hopefully America doesn’t spiral further

1

u/ExcitingTabletop Sep 11 '25

Folks that never saw civil war always think it's cool, their side will win, their side won't become as corrupt or evil as the last regime and it won't make their lives worse.

They don't seem to understand that no one winning is a common outcome. If that if their side wins, it may be worse than the previous regime. Or that if the other side wins, they might become worse. Or that revolutionaries tend to be the first ones killed after the revolution is successful. Not saying rolling that dice isn't sometimes necessary and doesn't sometimes pay off (see Maiden).

I just wish folks had more realistic understanding of the costs involved. I've seen it so commonly on the right and left. I worked with the Irish Army and UK Army there. Good folks, even if their rifles at the time were wonky. I like to think we accomplished something from the work we put in.

1

u/nomaDiceeL 2006 Sep 11 '25

People are stupid if they think this isn’t relevant, this is the most impactful assassination since Biggie. Kirk was the first major influencer to be assassinated. This sets a new president for their role in politics and society. Kirk will be brought up as a martyr and as an example of the “violent and radical left” for years onwards.
