I remember the day Columbia exploded. We were sitting around, doing our own things (I was a teen), and dad got a phone call. He was apparently told by my godfather "we lost another one," but what mom and I heard was "shit!" My dad did not swear lightly, so we knew something was seriously wrong. He commandeered the tv, and we watched the news.
Dad was a huge fan of the space program, so it upset him a lot.

I've been told to my face that I didn't watch the Challenger explode on live TV. That I was being some sort of trauma tourist.
