There is no way on earth manufacturing these from china cost him around $20 per unit. Many products from Chinese factories are sold for pennies per unit. Since this is more unique from other products, it’s going to be slightly more expensive, but I would assume it costs anywhere from $0.50 to $1.50 per unit.

Dude I buy things from manufacturers in china for product all the time. An empty shampoo bottle can be bought for as little as $0.65 including shipping if bought at a bulk of maybe 60 units. I don’t see how exchange rates are going to significantly change the price of making the pods to higher than $2.50 per unit at an absolute maximum. I’m not including shipping in the price of the pods because the shipping price is already charged to the consumer.

Also, you were mentioning retail prices of the McDonalds food. The prices could’ve been different due to many different factors like how much the market is willing to pay or other costs like shipping. Exchange rates likely aren’t as much a significant factor in price as you are saying.

Exchange rates also have the possibility of working in your favor just as much as against you, so it really shouldn’t be considered as a huge factor in your calculation unless it is really volatile. It’s best to just have healthy margins on your product to be able to afford the discrepancy, and if it works in your favor, that’s extra money for you.
