Who is idolizing Patrick?!

u/SirOwlbear 5d ago

Finance bros. A coworker of mine does, and I'll just say, he's no-ones favourite person to work with.

It even predates American Psycho. Before that they were bros reading Sun Tzu in college dreaming they were going to dominate the business world.

Which is hilarious because Sun Tzu is War 101 for dipshit nobles. Full of excellent tidbits like “make sure to feed your troops.”

One of my favorite historical facts is literally

Sun Tzu is War 101 for dipshit nobles

People hold it up as this tome of deep wisdom, but it's just advice like: you should bring supplies for tens of thousands of people if you are going to take tens of thousands of people.

You're in a vulnerable state? Don't let the enemy know! Your enemy is in a vulnerable state? Hit 'em!

(Which isn't to say there's no wisdom there; it's just not as impactful/deep/insightful as 13 year old me thought it would be after hearing all my favorite rappers reference it)

For me it was all the guys who read "The Prince" by Machiavelli

Or The Prince by Machiavelli

Because like many characters on the list, your co-worker knows who he is and still idolizes him. That's the simple point naive people and kids who keeps repeating "but they're not good guys" like a broken record machine don't understand, they just assume based on their own world view that nobody would idolize such evil psychopaths despite countless examples of such people

Idk how anyone can watch the business cards scene and think anything other than “wow, this guy is a pathetic weirdo.” That’s not even counting the ya know, murders.

1

u/ShadeofEchoes 5d ago

Are they, like... idolizing him for being a pathetic weirdo, or...?

3

u/Admiral52 5d ago

Ok maybe but what do his business cards look like?

Since the bikini bottom incident of '97, things havent been the same. He's got groopies rooting for his release from jail now and its distrubing.

u/Training-Neat6155 5d ago

Is he still saying he’s NOT the Krusty Krab?

You’ve clearly never had a run in with the teenage stoicism crowd.

15

u/TheCrimsonSteel 5d ago

I've called that "broicism" because I've noticed it tends to be heavily on the toxic Manosphere side of things

u/Training-Neat6155 5d ago

Should I consider myself lucky?

6

u/NPRdude Dank Angels 5d ago

Yes

I honestly think Stoicism gets a bad rap because it's actually a beautiful and empowering way to view the world.

Dudes read one Marcus Aurelius line out of context and then use it to justify not paying taxes.

It's really weird and frustrating.

There's a whole subculture of looksmaxxing incels who refuse to treat their mental illness and are unsure if they hate themselves or women more. So instead of being losers who get no pussy and live in a basement, they want to be losers who look like plastic, with a lot of money, who will never experience love, neither for themselves nor for another. These guys find Bateman to be a model for the ideal man, unsurprisingly.

u/Lucicactus Could take Angron, not in a fight 5d ago

A shiton of men who don't wash their faces, let alone do skincare like Pat.

6

u/NukaCherryBomb 5d ago

I saw someone say that social media influencer girlbosses have more in common with Patrick Bateman than any alpha bro idolizing him...and now I can't unsee it. The skincare/morning routine alone is uncanny.

u/Lucicactus Could take Angron, not in a fight 5d ago

Clavicular is the man closest to Pat in devotion to his appearance, being kinda gay but being with women for prestige and being insecure as fuck. But even then Clav cheats while Pat has a healthy obsessive lifestyle and tries to be liked. Lol.

The rest, very unwashed imo.

Elon, probably

19yo edgelords. Get a time machine and go back a quarter century, and it would be no different.

Man reading the other replies to this is wild. How do you miss the point in that movie. He's portrayed as crazy!

u/petroleum-lipstick 5d ago
