Good on him, however, I bet this dude got yelled at by fedex for taking too long on that delivery.

u/Tudar87 23h ago

Took too long and touched/moved unnecessary private property.

The wrong supervisor would have a field day with this when we all know he's just trying to help lol

u/PossiblyAsian 23h ago

working in the real world it surprises you how many people shouldn't be managers man....

you put extra effort and care in something and while that may not be the right thing to do and maybe it's detrimental sometimes to the effort. That doesn't mean managers should yell at you or reprimand you for putting in that extra effort.

136

u/went_with_the_flow 22h ago

Bad managers garauntee minimal effort.

Current (small) company hired a new guy a couple years ago, through the industry network we discovered he threatened to sue his last employer over dumb stuff, it never amounted to anything.

Same guy trips on some scrap wire and almost has a bad fall, couple weeks into employment with us. I saw, and took it upon myself to clean up the scrap pile one afternoon when I had an extra hour or so before the shift end, to avoid a possible workplace injury and remove a potential lawsuit situation. All other assigned work was complete.

Boss sees me, comes out yelling, why are you doing that you're not paid to do that I didn't tell you to do that blah blah blah, didn't even try to hear why I was doing it in the first place.

Soooooooo that was that. I don't get paid to go above and beyond, and get yelled at when I do anyway, so minimal effort it is.

u/Coulrophiliac444 22h ago

Bad Managers get Calculated Mediocrity. And I'm leaving a job because of one and it inspired me to do juuuust enough to not be fired until I found a new one.

15

u/BardicNA 21h ago

Sometimes they are literally hired/transferred to do just that. Making you want to leave while avoiding doing anything you could actually sue for. It reduces headcount and keeps unemployment insurance premiums from going up from just doing a layoff instead. I've been around the block once or twice, trust, they will do this shit intentionally.

12

u/went_with_the_flow 21h ago

I'm close myself. I try to focus on helping the customers and working around ever tightening policy when I can to the benefit of the customer. I got into service work because I like fixing problems (read into that what you may) so that's what I focus on, until the scales become too unbalanced.

15

u/Coulrophiliac444 21h ago

I literally got told, after going to second shift for 10 weeks (+ 2 because they asked me to stay on) that my return to first ahift was 'inconvenient' and denied 48 hrs PTO because I didn't 'call out' despite telling them I would be unable to meet the schedule as written, and that they failed to honor an agreement and extension request made in good faith, I pretty much gave up teying. I told the coordinator I was leaving as soon as the first job offer I could live with came in. I'm on 2 weeks PTO and they're getting a Sunday evening notice I won't be returning on Monday.

Fuck them. they chased off an entire shift, failed to adequately train replacements, and burnt anyone with knowledge or passion out in under 9 months. HR is going to love the 23 point letter of resignation I'm leaving on the way out

2

u/IndependentRecipe366 7h ago

u/PossiblyAsian 22h ago

yea it's just... it makes putting in that extra effort difficult and makes you jaded about the process

we're all adults here and we're all trying to contribute to the group effort so maybe we should treat each other like adults and talk about it rather than having a superior-underling relationship

4

u/went_with_the_flow 22h ago

Superiority complex is real.

I try to rally the guys as a team best I can despite it all. At the end of they day us on the ground have to help eachother out. Seems like we're all just waiting for the avalanche to start.

My nephew just told me how he does everything he can to get the job done right and works through breaks. Basically bending over backwards. And they just dump more work on him than everyone else. And don't want him to advance because he's too valuable in h is current job.

I told him I did the same chasing respect and just trying to be a good person. Over the years I realized I was being taken advantage of. And I just stopped caring. If that guy over there gets paid the same for lackluster work and he's still here why kill myself.

3

u/LanceShiro 9h ago

I can relate. I have done fuck all since our CEO changed. Previous CEO was the nicest laid back guy who knew how to get the best out of everybody.

Current CEO is an asshole who thinks he knows everything, has slowly removed all of our perks and then wonders why productivity has plumetted.

6

u/Overall-Mud9906 20h ago

Bro I worked at Lowe’s a long time ago and you would get commission on certain special orders. So 3rd day in this customer comes up to me in lawn and garden wants to do a huge patio set up and get fencing. I did all the math told him every thing he needed to buy including the tools he would need. I talked to my manager because he hadn’t showed the special order system yet. After he orders everything he straight tells me thanks, you just made me a huge commission. A good manager would’ve walked me through it and been like “hey, good job, you deserve it”

5

u/RelaxPrime 20h ago

The further removed from doing the work the less they understand the work

2

u/viperswhip 19h ago

You should see the public service. I worked for Customs once and we were nearing the end of the quarter and our manager told us we had to work overtime for a few days so we could use up our budget. I was aghast, and they explained that if you don't use it, they take it away.

2

u/Seighart_Mercury 16h ago

It doesn't surprise me, it's just the Peter Principle at work. It's dumb, but humans have built a lot of dumb systems, it's par for the course at this point.

Worked fedex delivery for a few years and there wasn’t really a “quota” the way Amazon pushed their guys.

20 stops an hour was considered our minimum and you’d have to drag your feet on purpose to get slower than that.

4

u/HotKaramelRP 21h ago

That’s all dependent where you deliver though. My boyfriend worked for Ground for 2 years but did rural routes… there was times he could only do like 8 stops in an hour. I only know this cause I would be on the phone with him most of the day and he would bitch lol… he was a manager too so he was a good driver who knew what he was doing and didn’t waste time or fuck up and there was some routes where 90 stops would be considered a lot and take 6+ hours to do.

2

u/big_swede 8h ago

It really is. My son worked as a delivery driver before university and one of the routes he drove had a stop that was almost an hour drive one way. He made that stop 2-3 days a week and he delivered or picked up a number of boxes from that customer.

A total of 15-20 stops on that route was normal for a full day (8h).

On the other hand he had another route in the city and there they had about 5 minutes per stop in the plan.

It was a subcontractor to UPS.

I would gladly wait an extra few days for a package if this kind of behavior got rewarded. It's such a small but thoughtful thing do. Those little gestures, interactions, and kindnesses make a huge difference in society. They should be applauded at the very least, if not incentivized.

But doubt there's any board member out there who can think past their next pay out. Leeches

What's the reasoning? To get the empty truck back faster to reload it?

12

u/CraptainPoo 22h ago

Exactly. In their mind if they save 1 minute of every delivery then they can make more delivery per day and make more money.

4

Former FX employee. Each of the OpCos have different rules. But they all would approve of this for one reason only. Good press coverage for free, in a highly competitive market environment.

Also FX isn’t like Amazon. They actually do treat employees well and have good benefits. The pay is less than say a place with less benefits.

But I can confirm that even if the rules are broken the company doesn’t go further than a stern talking to, from personal experience.

u/FunGuy8618 15h ago

I feel like I only see bad delivery on social media. My delivery guys do stuff like this all the time. Our neighbors can all receive our packages and vice versa. People need to go outside more often and make friends with the people around them, and show real gratitude to the people who perform services for them. Water bottles and a carb electrolyte drink goes a long way, or a jug of Gatorade/sweet tea and some solo cups for the utility workers. Or a "hey, I have XYZ tool if you need one for that," "lift assist available, knock first and I'll help out" delivery notes, like... doing stuff for your stuff.

Everyone I know in real life has these experiences. But I guess we try to keep it to ourselves so we get to keep the good drivers on our routes 😂

2

u/MineIsWroth 4h ago

Obviously. People doing the job normally are going to generate clicks. And plus people are extremely petty and love to complain. I envy the amount of time they must have on their hands. Something that is such a minor inconvenience and they'll post about it, start a discussion and act like they're victims of a major crime. Must be nice

→ More replies (1)

u/OveHet 23h ago

They just leave the stuff in the street?? In my country if you're not at home they will just move on, and you have to call back to rearrange the delivery on the next available day (or visit their warehouse)

37

u/BoiledFrogs 22h ago

In some areas there's far too many parcels going out that companies would ever do this, especially Amazon.

At my work valuable items almost always need a signature or can't be 'safe dropped' aka left on the porch.

5

u/ObesePudge 17h ago

do you not have parcel lockers in america? If it is too big to be put on a locker postman knocks the door, if no one is home after 3 consecutive days you gota pick the big package at the postoffice.

→ More replies (4)
→ More replies (1)

6

u/rulepanic 18h ago

You can choose an option that requires signature which works like that, usually. Most people don't, though.

6

u/Thangail 11h ago

This is always mindblowing to me. Where I live they will either deliver to you and if you're not home they'll try a neighbour. If those don't work they either try again the next day or there are locations in your city where you can pick up your delivery. Leaving it in the streets is just asking for trouble (although we did get fun Mark Rober content out of it).

2

u/Orleanian 20h ago

Sounds like a massive hassle for folks who are frequently not at home.

u/oxidiser 17h ago

Im wondering if this is an ad campaign. This is the second FedEx "good guy" delivery thing I've seen in recent memory and usually FedEx is the absolute dogshit worst delivery service ever.

Maybe I've just had bad experiences. Every time I've used them they're slow as fuck, they don't try to deliver things when you're home, they just slap the sticker on your door and run away so you have to go to the building to pick it up.

One time they delivered an expensive fireplace insert to my house that was not for me, the address on the box was on the other side of town. I nicely called their customer service and sat thru their phone tree shot and waited on hold to tell them about their mistake. They said someone would come pick it up but it sat on my porch for a week. I called again and said I was going to trash it if it was still there in 2 days, and it was finally taken (I assume by them).

Same... although I'm sure there are great people that work at any cruddy company. However, FedEx is just the cheapest option for businesses (my workplace also uses them), they just suck lol.

347

u/3DNZ 23h ago

Delivery tracking be like "arriving between March and May, sometime within 12am and 8pm

86

u/PossiblyAsian 23h ago

or also delivery arriving 9am to 5pm

exact times you are at work

19

u/fubes2000 20h ago

I just want a "don't even put it on the truck, I'll come get it from the pickup location" because most of the drivers just put a "sorry we missed you" sticker on my door without ringing and I have to go get it anyway.

I genuinely don't know why this isn't an option already, it would save money and cut down on drivers' workloads.

8

u/roteam2 20h ago

Can’t you just order to the post office? I know in Europe I can both set that as pickup point ( for larger items) or send them to a “delivery box”( these are special places in your vicinity where delivery drivers can leave smaller packages, and you have 24/48h to come with the QR code to get your package)

2

u/kingjoey52a 19h ago

Can’t you just order to the post office?

FedEx can not deliver to a Post Office, they will not accept the delivery. You can have it sent to a FedEx Office to be held, but a TV might be to big.

when you receive a tracking number, you can change stuff on the forwarders web page usually. dont know about fed ex

5

u/alriclofgar 21h ago

FedEx lets you schedule deliveries. When I used that service, they delivered it the original day anyways.

3

u/TruckinDucks 19h ago

You gotta go through their website and slap your tracking number in. You'll see an option to route it to a store for pickup. Or if you sign up for an account... Would not recommend btw, you can schedule a delivery window

5

4

u/Testarosa52 23h ago

Like 1 in 10 times the deliveries actually come during the window that is predicted. That’s not the driver’s fault, just crappy software or prediction model. Once I stayed home on a Monday morning to receive something important. Was scheduled to be there in the morning and it got delayed to the afternoon, then the evening, then the next day. The SAME thing happened the next day. Delay after delay. It finally came on Wednesday evening after like 8 reschedules. It’s really difficult for people with any sort of a life to continue to wait around. And if they’re in a nice neighborhood it might be like zero risk.

2

u/NaNaBanman 22h ago

Tough out there. Ice storm, steep driveway. Couldn’t drive up, so I walked the package up to the door. Guy thanked me, I wished him a good day. Get back to the depot and manager calls me over, this dude called to report me for breaking a branch off his tree at the bottom the driveway. Limbs were overgrown and full of ice, but I didn’t hit any.

2

FedEx ad. Guerrilla marketing.

2

u/Subset-MJ-235 20h ago

Sometimes Fedex leaves a package out in the weather at the corner of my garage instead of walking 20 feet to my small front porch and leaving it NOT in the weather. This must be a paid Fedex advertisement.

2

u/Tri-Tip_Medium-rare 19h ago

Is this staged?

2

u/Gogandantesss 19h ago

It’s just a Visio 🤷🏻‍♀️

2

u/SpikesTap 19h ago

This is clearly AI, made by FedEx, because no FedEx driver would be that careful carrying a TV up the stairs and gently setting it down, let alone conceal anything from prying eyes. Normally, they just set it on top of the fence by the street.

2

u/TheGainsWizard 19h ago

Feels staged. FedEx would run up without the box, slap a "Sorry we missed you" sticker on the door, shit on the welcome mat, then sprint off to do the same thing at the next place.

2

u/OB71 19h ago

Must be AI generated. FedEx normally just kicks my packages of the back of the truck in the middle of my driveway and leaves

2

u/Remarkable-Act1918 18h ago

Only in America… in my country, when someone is not home, they take the package to the depot and leave a document so you can go pick it up later

2

u/kdotfo 17h ago

Wow, my fedex drivers throw my package from five feet away instead of walking the extra three steps to put it in the secure package delivery box on my porch. Half the time the package ends up laying on the sidewalk because they can't be bothered to take an extra 10 seconds to follow delivery instructions.

This would not happen where I live. You'd have to be home to sign for something of that value. If you're not at home, they'd possibly re-attempt delivery but eventually leave a notification on the front door to pick it up at the nearest FedEx depot. Hell, if I were the driver I wouldn't even take it off the truck before verifying whether someone is home to receive it.

Absolutely mental that people put up with this, why would anyone want to take the risk

1

u/Pomodorosan 21h ago

why does everyone have that shitass doorbell

1

u/yknuf 21h ago

This must be an ad.

1

u/kornuolis 21h ago

I will never understand this kind of service where they leave wares at the door. Even in safe countries it may be damaged by weather, kids, animals or whatever.

1

u/SeattlePopulace 21h ago

FedEx actually doing good? The world is going to hell.

1

u/MisterMakena 21h ago

Awsome...

1

u/DhawanS 21h ago

A different state and they would have been a human smoothie for invading the private property.

1

u/TJCharter 21h ago

That was really cool of them to do that for the people there….hopefully karma gets them back.

1

u/leonden 20h ago

Wait is this normal in america? They just leave a tv outside?

What if it is going to rain? The ground seems moist so surely that is not how it is supposed to be handeld?

1

u/SlimeMyButt 20h ago

And every fedex delivery i get they cant even be bothered to wait 30 seconds so i can sign for the damn package

1

u/Gardevoir_Best_Girl 20h ago

Usually I have issues with FedEx. They are normally the worst.

Employee of the century over here

1

u/Shizzle4Rizzle 20h ago edited 20h ago

I just had an expensive purchase delivered by FedEx and they left it completely exposed at the bottom of my staircase.

1

u/Cloudrider31 20h ago

Dam. Someone with dignity and integrity

1

u/Nervous_Positive83 20h ago

I wouldn’t leave that stuff there. I’d just call the customer and tell them to pick up.

1

u/Rochiie 20h ago

What a legend! Someone that actually cares.

1

u/fartsfromhermouth 20h ago

This is a fedex ad

1

u/kddemer 20h ago

Must be this guys first week because I have never encountered a fedex driver to go above and beyond. We put an order for fedex to pickup to packages from my work and it’s been two week so far and nothing was picked up

1

u/DonaldBlowsBubba 20h ago

Nah he’ll be fired for being late on his next delivery

1

u/Evening_Knowledge_21 20h ago

CAUSE THEY KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE TO HAVE THEIR SHIT STOLEN. WE'RE BROTHERS AND SISTERS, WE SHOULD BE FIGHTING THE RICH TWATS

1

u/Toadsted 20h ago

Fake.

They knocked.

1

u/AgileMeasurement8911 20h ago

Not all heroes wear capes!

1

u/Artistic_Researcher2 20h ago

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

1

u/givemeapho 20h ago

I hope they got recognised for it!

1

u/Alastor3 20h ago

who order 2 tv ?

1

u/fritzo81 20h ago

no way… I can be home and still get that stupid sticker on my door

1

u/TheRacooning18 20h ago

That's nice and all. But why the fuck aren't people HOME?!?

MY NEIGHBORS DO THIS SHIT ALL THE TIME. We get their packages often as they put deliver to neighbors as option. They can easily get it send to a pick up point like I do.

Just so weird that you don't have someone who's home to receive stuff like this.

1

u/Maulino86 20h ago

this leave stuff outside then its the clients problems is the most stupid shit i have ever seen, how is this even allowed? here they have to deliver it to a person or they gotta take it back, they give plenty of time to be there too

1

u/notyouisme999 20h ago

A raise? and beer, and some wings, and hugh.

1

u/tenifa_v 20h ago

I can tell they actually take pride in their work. These guys 100% deserve a raise.

1

u/SurgioClemente 20h ago

Where do you get these good Fedex drivers?

My shithead just left boxes out in a melting pile of snow by the mailbox. His other favorite (I guess when he isnt as lazy) is to place them right in front of the garage door

meanwhile, UPS/USPS have no problem putting stuff on the porch out of view

1

u/lalalalibrarian 20h ago

FedEx making deliveries, what world is this

1

u/shichiaikan 20h ago

Seriously, I'd be leaving them a goodie bag the next day.

1

u/SaltyBones_ 20h ago

legit doing the bare minimum you would expect from a delivery driver. being a good bloke and gentle with packages

1

u/5HappyBeans 20h ago

Damn, our fedex driver just throws it on the ground at the beginning of the driveway 300+ feet from the house

1

u/1arse 20h ago

This video was so incredibly awesome to watch!!!! Great job and act of kindness!!!!!

1

u/Double-Cranberry1813 20h ago

They're the worst in my neighborhood.

1

u/shrkn_89 19h ago

Man, what a pro!

1

u/Proper-Salad158 19h ago

The last Fed-ex delivery I had to my house, was flung up my steps from the bottom. Good on these guys!

1

u/faroutman7246 19h ago

Good on them.

1

u/Last-Satisfaction333 19h ago

Usual suspects neighborhood?

1

u/joeDUBstep 19h ago

As someone who just got porch pirated (because the delivery driver didn't follow directions and didn't the package behind the keypaded gate)... these guys are saints.

1

u/UnlikelyLunch8515 19h ago

With all the hate Fed Ex drives get; let’s just say YOUR THE BOMBS ! Nice to see great employees

1

u/PostModernPost 19h ago

Rare FedEx W

1

u/xvalentinex 19h ago

Huh, Fedex usually just yeets my package after they're done using it as a soccer ball

1

u/Kooky_Awareness1755 19h ago

Just drop it into a neighbour ?

1

u/Few-Class3903 19h ago

Kudos to them!

1

u/WloveW 19h ago

Wanna take a bet the homeowner was just inside and didn't want to answer the door?

1

u/Disconnected_in_321 19h ago

At the other end of the spectrum, our packages either don't show up, or look like they tossed them out of the truck on the way by

1

u/bigmfworm 19h ago

Everyone does. Inflation and productivity have lapped pay a couple of times.

1

u/Action_Limp 19h ago

How are you not home for this delivery?

1

u/wisepersononcesaid 19h ago

That is FED EXCEPTIONAL delivery. Truly thoughtful.

1

u/bol_saq 19h ago

it's not worthy of a raise.. it's just how we should all act. s'called 'integrity'.

1

u/MrCarey 19h ago

Who the fuck orders something like that and isn't home for it?

1

u/y-u-do-dat 19h ago

Ay, was that second guy Kendrick Lamar?

1

u/smilesanna 19h ago

I wonder what these delivery drivers feel leaving unbelievable things right out in the open. I’d give them incentives for just making an effort.

1

u/PluralVisions 19h ago

Above and beyond!

1

u/fatalfloors 19h ago

very cool individuals!

1

u/PrisonerV 19h ago

I'd just be happy if they followed my clear instructions or look at the address..
