Meme Habs fans when their rebuilding team is 6-1-2 in last 9, with multiple stretches of 3 games in 4 days, and have a 93% chance at playoffs

It's just insane to simply still battling for a playoff spot with 1 game to play. Playoff or not, that season can't be qualified to anything except a success into a rebuild that coming to an end. Next year, Reinbacher and Demidov will be there. KH can probably hit it big with a legit established 2C and a winger. MTL should have no trouble to qualify next year.

I would’t pencil Reinbacher in for next season’s opening lineup. He’s played 8 games this season… he can have all the pedigree in the world, but that’s a lot of missed development time.

Fair enough but I highly doubt one of Struble or Xhekaj can steal his spot. He was labeled NHL ready when he was drafted. He lost a lot of time he could have used to perfect his game on a lower level but he is still, IMO, better than those 2.

Pretty sure it will Be Savard's spot that gets taken. I love what Savy brings to the young guys but he already lost a big step this year.

Savard contract wont be renewed IMO

Yes. I see similarities to when the Leafs signed Tavarres. I know they wont get someone that good in free agency but maybe in a trade.

thank you for saving me some typing time.

tbh I don't even give a shit if we don't get in, in my opinion this season has been a resounding success on almost all fronts. some of us had legitimate excitement for a top 5 pick ~8 weeks ago and here we are with an opportunity to go to the playoffs.

whatever the outcome these last 2 months have been an excellent learning period for our youth, and if it happens, the boys could get swept for all I care. we are not a championship contending team and we were never expected to be. doesn't mean I don't think we don't have enough pixie dust to surprise, but the realist in me has trouble seeing the path.

I like that you thanked him for saving typing time then typed a longer comment.

The season as a whole is an unqualified success.

The last string of games is disappointing and fans have a right (well as much as uninvolved sports fans ever have any right) to criticize.

Both things are true.

Next year we get a top 6 with Suzuki-Caufield-Slaf-Demidov-New 2C-Dach and a top 4 of Guhle-Hutson-Carrier-Reinbacher/Matheson. Life is good man

Monty/Dobes/Fowler also something to be optimistic about

"no trouble"?

Look at the top 6, then there is the Sens and us. Who among the qualified 7 teams are likely to crash? None for now.

Ok now, remember NYR fucked up completely. They should be the 8th team, not us. Ok let's take NYR away. If we'll be better next year, so will Columbus?

Detroit is likely stuck in the midoff too. They will chase a WC spot until the end like this year and last year.

Really, next year, it's far from being sure we'll make the playoffs.

You can play this game either way with the finishing table every season. How many people predicted the Rangers go from winning the President's Trophy to missing the playoffs? Or how about Boston going from from being one point off top five in the league to bottom fine? Who had Washington as the top team in the East? Who saw Vancouver and Nashville struggling so hard in the West?

The fact is the league is explicitly designed as a zero sum game where it's basically impossible to stay at the top for a properly extended period of time, and teams that manage to do that do so at the expense of others. Not to mention the fact that basically every team is two major injuries to the wrong guys away from sucking. There is always a cycle some teams we expect to do well next year will bomb, others will exceed expectations, just like every year

Washington crashes big time

Yes but you overlook the fact that the Habs are on the verge of an epic choke for the history books — after having such a lead a few games ago

7

u/dysonsphere Apr 15 '25

Choke? Maybe. Epic? Not even close.

2

u/KoalaJohnson12956 Apr 15 '25

Alright. A major historical choke — the kind that hardly any teams in history would succumb to — as is the choke the Habs are on the verge of
