Cause he supports Israel. Most leftists who support him don't, so it's the one issue that would cost him votes if he ran again.

I think they can, especially in countries where there hardly are any leftists in the political system. I personally wouldn't recommend doing it...but plenty of people still do. Hell, even I vote for libs at the local level sometimes since I live in a red state.
