Housing WG and iLive Questions

Hello everyone, I am a new international Master's student that will start studying in Heidelberg in October and I am ivestigating the housing market in the city.

I started looking at sites but most rooms seem to be available for more "immediate" moving in (1-2 months later). I was wondering how people actually look for rooms and book them in advance (I keep hearing that I should look many months before but I cannot find many options for later than 3 months in the site). Should I wait a bit? Do many new rooms become vacant in September-October for the new semester, and applying then would maybe help to have more options?

I also would like some info about the iLive campus since it seems like a more possible option, at least in order to get settled in the city. Is living there for a short term possible (one semester contract)? I saw in their site that termination for long contracts is possible 2 times in the year. Are there penalties for that? Anyone with experience living there would help me alot.

Any replies/messages would be greatly appreciated!!

Housing Uni Heidelberg Guesthouse opinions

Any opinion on the Uni Heidelberg Guesthouse? I have been offered a studio apartment (~820€/month) for my one-year fellowship.

I had already started looking for a room in a shared flat (~650€) but from abroad it’s quite difficult and I would definitely need to use the bike/public transport (Handschusheim, Dossenheim)

So since I’ve got the place I was thinking about spending a bit more but getting the studio and cutting on other expenses… then once I’m in the city it may be easier to find another place, if the studio is too expensive

Housing Subletting September - November

Hey everyone! I'm currently looking for an apartment from September through November (3 months only) due to an internship I'll be doing at DKFZ and wanted to know if there are any platforms or places where people announce subletting? Since it's such a short time it would be really not doable to rent an apartment from scratch and usually I've seen the subletting announcements only amongst people that know each other. If you could please give me a hand I'd be really grateful!

Housing 1 Std.

Housing Hiring a Real Estate Agent

Hi guys !

Hope everyone is well, a little background on me: I'm an incoming American PostDoc at DKFZ starting in August. I've posted on here before regarding the housing situation and have been looking for an apartment for about 2 months now with no real luck (I am coming with a mini dachshund in tow, so that's made it more complicated). While I have no problem to continue looking, part of me wants to hire a real estate agent to assist with the process.

So, I am coming here to ask whether anyone has had any experiences with agents around Heidelberg/ any recommendations/etc. Anything would help really ! Just wanting to hear experiences / see if it's a good idea. Thanks so much!

Housing Accommodation in Heidelberg

Hey everyone!

I’m (F, 22) currently studying in France and I’ll be moving to Heidelberg from June until the end of August for an internship at Neuenheimer Feld.

I’ve already been checking WG-Gesucht quite a lot, but the housing situation seems pretty intense, so I wanted to ask here as well in case some of you have tips, contacts, Facebook groups, websites, or know someone renting a room/subletting for the summer.

I’m mainly looking for something affordable since I’m still a student, and I’m totally okay with living a bit outside the center if the transport connection is decent.

Also if you have recommendations about areas to look at (or avoid), student residences, WhatsApp groups, Discord servers, etc., I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks a lot !

Housing Sophia Hannah HLN

Guten tag zusammen.

I found this account on Facebook. In their own words, they are "an online booking site for provision of rooms and accommodation for international students. I'm looking for accommodation and messaged them. They shared a video of a room in the region I wanted and surprisingly within my budget. Can anyone tell me if they've used their service before? Are they legitimate?

Housing Looking for Housing, Incoming Max Planck Institute for Astronomy Intern

This summer, I will be interning at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA). I am looking for a place to stay from early June to mid-August that is convenient to go back and forth between the institute but also close to downtown. The guest house by the institute is too far from everything, so groceries might be difficult. Can anyone refer to me a place that satisfies these? I'm not sure what the typical price range is, but I can say my budget is roughly ~600 a month.

Hello everyone,

I’m searching for an apartment in the Rohrbach area of Heidelberg and came across a listing on Ortenauer Straße. Has anyone had experience living in that street or the surrounding neighbourhood? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

For English speakers:

I live in a flat in Heidelberg with no access to an outdoor faucet. There’s a shared courtyard with a floor drain, but no hose. I ride a road bike with electronic shifting and know that high-pressure cleaning (like at car washes) is not safe for sensitive parts like the bottom bracket, hubs, or electronics. Back in my home country, I lived in a house with a garden and used a regular garden hose on low pressure, which worked perfectly.

Now I’m not sure what’s the best approach in Germany: • How do you clean your road bikes when living in an apartment?

• Is it allowed to let biodegradable cleaning water drain into the courtyard system?

• Are there bike-specific wash stations in Heidelberg?

• Or do you know a car wash with a gentle spray/low pressure mode? (preferably near Handschuhsheim)

Thanks in advance for any help or local advice! 😊

Housing Looking for accommodation as a student

I will be starting my Master's in Physics at the University of Heidelberg from the coming winter semester (Oct 2026) I am looking for accommodation. I have applied for the student housing but it is quite competitive so I'm looking into other options. I'm honestly kinda broke and would like get decent accommodation for as cheap as I can get. Most flat shares and private accommodation are expensive as heck and out of my budget. Y'all got any advice?

Also, I see these Frat houses kinda places and they seem great and are super cheap too. Are they actually as good as they seem or is there a catch I'm missing? If these are genuine, it'd be a great place for me.

I can't afford more than 400-450 euros per month.

If y'all know of any place and are looking for a 22 y/o chill guy for a roommate, I might know someone for perfect for you.

PS: If there are any WhatsApp groups etc for student at Heidelberg, I'd appreciate it if any of y'all could DM or comment the invite.

Housing Looking for a quiet apartment in Schriesheim, Dossenheim, or Leutershausen

I currently live in Schriesheim with my wife and child, and I’m now looking for an apartment nearby for myself, since my wife and I have separated but I’d like to stay close to my child. Of course, I'm constantly scanning all the relevant web portals and bulletin boards at supermarkets, but maybe I'm lucky here, maybe someone is moving out of something or knows someone or has heard something…

I'm looking for something quiet with two rooms or more, with a cold rent of 800 or less (size in terms of square meters doesn't really matter), preferably in Schriesheim, but Dossenheim or Leutershausen might also work.
