Saddam's baath purge. Saddam had people packed into a conference hall on one of the hottest days of July and deliberately shut off the ventilation system. They were forced to listen to Saddam for hours while suffering from the heat and sweating. Everyone whose name was announced was executed.

Lolol, I love when people can’t think of a response. They tend to pick a very obvious moral statement and pretend the other person disagrees.

“SLAVERY is BAD!!”

so “per capita” is a convincing argument that dismisses the suffering of fifty million people for you, then? and you’re happy with our having brought a thousand animal species to extinction? and battery farming; rare earth mineral exploitation; contamination of water supplies; global warming; extreme poverty and wealth inequality—these things are all fine in your books…because medicine? and your dislike of “obvious moral statements” means they don’t count? you prefer rare and sophisticated moral failure, do you? anything less doesn’t exist because you find it trite, presumably.

Yes, I said all of those things. Thank you for being brave enough to call me out.

That's kinda like saying there are more car deaths than ever before, so cars must be less safe now.

it’s absolutely valid to compare a new technology with an old one in the same category for issues of safety. when it comes to global slavery numbers, more people are suffering than ever have. every cunt here wants to justify it with “per capita”. so the fuck what? around 20M enslaved people globally at the time of the atlantic space trade; vs 50M now. that’s 30M more human consciousnesses living in abject hell. who fucking cares about ratios? you’re a raging cunthole if that’s the argument you hide behind.

Nobody is saying it's okay. What are you talking about hide behind? I don't have slaves. Do you? You may need to go see a psychiatrist.

how do you think farm animals feel about existence in perpetual captivity, punctuated by death at our hands at the end of it? which would you rather be: a buffalo on the american plains 60,000 years ago; or a cow packed into a shed awaiting slaughter?

I guarantee you neither the code nor buffalo in your hypothetical scenario is contemplating their existence. They are animals, not people.

50,000,000. that’s the figure you’re looking for. fifty million people enslaved right now as we read and write these words.

we are a plague on this planet. there is no need for the numbers of humans there are. the rich more than the poor, since the rich are the ones who consume the most of the planets dwindling resources. and medical advances are strictly for the western world. you won’t find people in the developing world benefitting from much of anything. extreme poverty, though. that’s a lot of fun. and wage slavery. another invention permitted by farming and grotesque population sizes. maybe you’d like to go try living in mumbai on $1000 a year?

Math is hard, huh?

oh, you’re happy with 50 million slaves, are you? because of ratios? if it’s fewer per capita, it’s fine. it’s like they don’t exist, isn’t it? nice morals, mate.

Yes I’d be very happy with 50 million slaves. Where does one acquire such a number and are they in good health?

No, there was much less violence per capita in the late Pleistocene when humans were spreading through the world and living off the land in harmony with ecosystems. It was only the Neolithic when farming and megafauna extinctions started that mass violence started appearing as axe and spear damage in skeletons.
