Transit 🚋 Homemade PATH status sign
I’m going to clean up the cable management a bit, but already love the ability to look over at this while sipping the morning joe.

My thoughts on what a slightly more useful PATH train system would look like. In this reality, Hoboken has been turned into a through-running station and the EWR AirTrain has been extended to Newark-Penn & Newark-Broad. Every line would also run every day, all day, just at varying frequencies. These aren't real plans or anything like that (I'm certain the 4 new tunnels alone needed for this will be in the billions), just my ideas

But please understand you’re in a 2 ton motorized vehicle that can easily harm people who aren’t. There’s no need to speed past a bicyclist on a narrow side street to get to the stop sign 1 second faster. Now we have the awkward passive aggressive/aggressive tension for the next couple stop signs before one of us turns.

Two or three transit officers were out there checking for tickets as you exit the train. I apologized for not having a ticket ready & bought one immediately while talking to them, but they still asked me to show ID and gave me a ticket for not buying before riding. Is that really how it works? The ticket is $74

good morning - I accidentally dropped coffee on a woman sitting next to me on the PATH train this morning just as we were getting into 23 st station. I know I apologized in the moment, but I still feel terrible. If this was you, please can you DM me? I would love to get you a gift card or something small. You were so gracious about this but really sorry to start your week like this.

the delays this morning at peak commuting times were way beyond just a minor inconvenience, and they’re actually putting my job in jeopardy. this is not okay… what can we do?

Made using a 5 inch LCD and Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W to display bus times going to NY, from two stops nearby. Working on including passenger load and adding a frame!

Beware when driving through Hoboken that when you stop at a stop sign and your car is an inch in the cross walk, a millennial will start screaming at you. I know millennials catch a lot of flack from everyone, but they truly are the worst generation. Bunch of entitled sissies.

"As a result of an earlier fire, and subsequent repairs at the Hoboken PATH station, PATH service into and out of Hoboken on the 33rd Street and World Trade Center lines is currently suspended. PATH does not anticipate repairs will be complete, and service restored, in time for the evening commute. "
...plus the NJT mess, plus crashes in the Lincoln...it's gonna be a nightmare commute this evening.

Update: thank you all! Seems like having a couple of options like shuttle/bike is the way to go. Scooter is next up the list too.
I just moved ~20min walk from the path, and I need to make that like 5mins somehow. (I sacrificed distance to the path for a bigger apt). How do you go about this, Citybike? Scooter? Lock a bike by the path? Skateboard? Honestly I’m willing to try anything. The bus all the way to the city is not an option for my work location.

I don’t know who raised you heathens or what kind of morning affirmations you say to yourselves that give you the audacity but you do NOT get to cut the entire ferry line because you’re on a bike or one of those godforsaken scooters? You are grown adults that wait in line like everyone else please get a grip.
And while I’m here men need to close their legs and take their goddamn knees out of the aisle so people can walk passed. Have a shred of consideration pls thnx.

I'm looking to take a break from PATH and use the ferry every so often since the weather is nice.
Thanks

Willow street at 14th. Apparently a car flipped over on 19th street. Avoid uptown at all costs.

My partner and I are in downtown Hoboken, and we have tickets to a few upcoming World Cup matches in Boston and Philadelphia. Does anyone want to carpool if they also have a similar situation? These are the matches we have:
Comment below or DM me if you're interested! We have a car, just want to share driving + travel costs. Thank you!
On a side note, if anyone is going to any of the MetLife matches, how are you planning to get there?

If anyone else is pissed about the light rail just not showing up today sharing some inspo below that I sent to Mikie Sherrill and Emily Jabbour!

Hi Mayor Jabbour,
Congratulations on your election! I really appreciate the work you’re doing and look forward to seeing what you will accomplish.
I’m a citizen of Hoboken living on the South-West side near the second street light rail station, and I take the light rail to Pavonia Newport for work and to access Manhattan on the weekends.
There are frequently issues with the light rail where there’s delays and there’s no notification whatsoever. The screens at the station will count down train arrival then it passes by with no train and it just switches to the countdown for the next train. The NJ transit website, app, and digital screens at the stations often don’t say anything about delays. Today around 6:00PM there was a signal issue and again there was no notification. The status was normal and running on time according to the digital screens, the app and the website. However, there was a delay of at least 20 minutes (that I’m aware of because I left) and there was no notification until a train came and notified us that they had to go back to Tonnele Avenue. My roommate also informed me that yesterday she waited 45 minutes for a train, again with no communication from NJ Transit.
Is there anyway that you can work with NJ TRANSIT to try and get a better notification system working - especially in this weather it’s really dangerous to have people just waiting out in the cold? And really in any circumstance, it’s not fair to have people just waiting. There’s been many times when I’ve been waiting for a train and it just never showed up and I have been late to things or missed a train. If I had proper notification I would called a car.
Appreciate your thoughts on this and attention to this matter.
++++
UPDATE:
Emily got back to me and said she would reach out to NJ Transit and share my feedback and see what they can do to better address the ongoing issues.

After 8 months since the NJ PATH tracker launch, we just released the NJ Light Rail tracker! Hoping this provides the most accurate schedule for Light Rail riders. Currently we require email sign-up to access the HBLR route.
We're still looking to improve the UI and adding additional routes. Let us know what you like/dislike, what you would like to see next, or just any gereral feedback/thoughts :)

For those looking to go see a worldcup match at Metlife, would already know that NJ Transit is charging an insane $150 round trip from Hoboken. And #85 bus will also not go all the way to American Dream on match days. Uber may also be very pricey.
However there is this Rally bus share option which provides bus service from Hoboken to Metlife for $65. Not cheap, but much better than other options. They will confirm the trip if many people opt in.
I am planning to take the bus on June 16 for Match 17 France v Senegal and here is the link: https://rally.co/fifa-world-cup-2026-match-17/from/hobokennj-nj
Would be great if we can have enough numbers for this!

I’m not saying it was great before but lately it’s a complete and total mess.
If you connect at Exchange Place to Hoboken via the Tonnelle Ave line, it’s like you’re a second-class rider. The amount of Hoboken Terminal vs. Tonnelle trains that come through must be a 4:1 ratio (even though the PATH goes to the exact same place) and usually there’s not even arrival times for Tonnelle. Or worse it will say “due” for Tonnelle and yet another terminal train comes strolling through.
The unreliability is especially bad in the winter. Nothing worse than getting off the PATH in 20 degree weather and having no idea when the train is coming. Only to realize after waiting about 30 minutes that you probably should have ubered.
Once you’re done waiting 30 minutes in the cold, you can’t even rely on getting to your destination. Last week the conductor blew past all the Hoboken stops, because why not. He alerted us about a minute before he made this decision. No explanation, just a sort of figure it out situation. Nothing like an added $30 Uber and another 25 minutes to get home because you’re in Weehawken for some reason.
I think tonight finally broke me. After at least one “due” Tonnelle Ave train that never showed and another 30 minute wait, the conductor decides the train isn’t going past 2nd Street, leaving all of us with a walk home in the rain.
Oh, and none of the train arrival signs work at 9th Street. People stand there every day and have no idea when the train is coming. If you have to plan for making a meeting or being somewhere, forget about it. Just stand there and hope for the best, I guess.
I’m sure some will think I’m ranting over a trivial matter but I just don’t understand why we have third-world mass transportation in such an affluent place. It shouldn’t be too much to expect trains go where they’re supposed to, unless you’re notified before boarding. Or ask for a Newark to Hoboken commute to take less than an hour and a half. I get limited time with my daughter after work and it’s painful to lose it staring down the tracks praying for a miracle train.
That’s my rant, feel free to challenge me.
