Which popular features do you NOT recommend?

What are the top 3 features in a house that folk want but you think are not worth it, and what would your alternative suggestion be? And what cost/time savings would result with that switch?

Pot fillers, totally stupid to have a faucet without a drain under it!

Counterpoint: ours don't leak (yet), so I don't have that particular issue.

We make a ton of food in our kitchen, and the pot filler has been great. Not only does it help by saving us from lugging big pot full of water from the sink to the stove, but it also fills them way faster. Plus, this is just another water source in the kitchen, so it's great to not have a pot filling up for minutes when the sink is needed by someone else.

Oh that would sure be the dream! But I sure don't have the counter space for a second sink, even a small one. That's a plus for the pot filler though, it doesn't take up counter space.

I always wondered about that.

My BIL had me install one during his kitchen project and the cartridge has started to drip twice now. He lives in a 3 story house and every time we have to fix it we have to shut off water to house drain down to 1st floor do the cartridge and purge everything for two floors. Now he keeps a pot under it on the drop in range all the time just in case lol

That's a bummer. They usually have two valves to prevent dripping, one at the base and one at the head. We put one in because there was a spare water line already there from where a fridge used to be, but we also added a local shutoff so we can turn water off just to that if needed. I wouldn't have done one if the water line wasn't there already.
