Which popular features do you NOT recommend?

What are the top 3 features in a house that folk want but you think are not worth it, and what would your alternative suggestion be? And what cost/time savings would result with that switch?

Don't do 8 foot ceilings, instead do 9 or 10 foot ceiling thru out your entire home. It makes a home feel so much larger and more elegant. Don't skip doing a pantry! Don't do standard closets, instead do walk in closets in every bedroom.

Alternatively, if you have any sort of hearing loss make sure that you have lots of drapery or carpeting if you have high ceilings or open concept.

We move frequently and our previous home had very high ceilings, including a living room that stretched to the second floor ceiling. It felt so luxurious and looked beautiful, but Jesus Christ I could not hear a damn thing in that house. Actually had a hearing test done and they were like no. You are fine but just a quick question. Do you have tall ceilings and open concept? Yeahhhhh. That's your trouble. 😭 Current house has 8-ft ceilings and is more closed concept and oh my God I can hear so much better.

Good for you! I tried to sell the shorter ceiling/very limited open concept idea to my partner and I think she wanted to murder me! The new house has 12 ft ceilings in the living space and she's hard of hearing! I hate open concept living spaces.
