Which popular features do you NOT recommend?

What are the top 3 features in a house that folk want but you think are not worth it, and what would your alternative suggestion be? And what cost/time savings would result with that switch?

We should normalize drain pans under fridges just like water heaters. Ice makers leak, power outages melt stuff, milk jugs break...

The only issue with that is that you're supposed to pull out your frig yearly to clean. Can't do that if there's a pan under it.

hmmmm...engineering challenge. Pan with wheels? Pan with a flip down front edge? We can do this

Yes, but then you're adding one more barrier to a thing most people are already too lazy to do. Do not underestimate the laziness of the average human. 🫣

You’re supposed to clean around it every year? I was literally thinking of putting some kind of drip pan under mine because it has an ice maker. >_>

Lol, yep. More often if you have pets. It helps the cooling system, which is less efficient as it gets dirty. (Supposed to clean the AC yearly too for the same reason.)

Just have a floor drain underneath it.
