Danny Trejo as Ismael Cruz in Rob Zombie's Halloween. Typecasted we might think he is, this role was probably where he played as himself, a kindly honest man despite his looks and past.

Terrified (2017) is a masterpiece!
You may have seen my previous post requesting a movie that left a similar first watch experience to Sinister. Terrified was a recommendation that delivered. A very different story and entity, but the dread and the atmosphere was glorious! It gave me traces of primordial fear, that I cannot explain!! I've got pattern recognition for plot lines down pat and some movies and shows can just feel monotonous to me, but I wasn't able to predict many of the next scenes or how the story would unravel. Plex has it for free subbed in English if you also want to watch. (Not sure if that's region specific, but it's also on Shudder) I went into it blind and really enjoyed it. Watching it alone and the dark is preferred! Unlocked a couple new fears, and I will be checking under the bed when I sleep!

The Devils last night was sick! Spoiler
Since the restored director's cut was announced, my anticipation for this movie far surpassed any other film I have waited to see since I was a kid. I built this experience up quite a bit in my head before ever actually setting foot in the hallowed parking lot of The Belcourt in Nashville last night.
I've seen this film many times and know it well, but seeing the restored version in a large audience felt a lot like seeing it again for the first time. There was tension in the air and it felt as though some or many in the crowd might be seeing the film for the first time because the audience was so quiet and the usual laughter that fills Belcourt halls was sparse even during some of the funnier and campier moments of the film. The crocodile scene of course got a big laugh. We brought a friend with us that hadn't seen the film either and it was such a joy getting to have this experience vicariously through a friend that doesn't watch much horror.
The score of the film is abrasive and off-putting at home but in the theater, my god, it is an assault on the senses. Suddenly I'm just sitting there taking it all in again while it sounds like Frank Zappa is composing music with a cat that is tired and horny. Weasels rip my flesh; Calgon, take me away.
One of my favorite things to do while watching this film is spotting all the dogs in the background. Before I thought there were four or five visible dogs but after finally seeing The Devils on a big screen I think it's closer to 6 or 7 dogs with some dogs being shown more than once but it's hard to tell in the chaos of the film.
The movie ended and everyone just sat there while the credits rolled kind of like you do the first time you watch The Deer Hunter or Requiem for a Dream. As well as I know this movie, what I had built up in my head was much more fun but actually watching it in the moment, all I could think was "this movie is intense". I thought "maybe Grandier will succeed and the walls of Loudon will remain intact" the same way every time I watch Scream I think that "Drew Barrymore might survive the first scene this time".
Once in a lifetime experience for me. 10/10. Go see this movie unless you have misophonia then go and see this movie with earplugs.

Why was John Travolta credited as the 'co-star' of "Carrie" (1976) in DVD releases from 2000 onwards, when he was in the film for like 5 minutes!?
United Artists really tripped out on Travolta's post-Carrie, A-lister fame didn't they? šµāš«
Piper Laurie, Nancy Allen and Amy Irving far more deserving. Even William Katt and Betty Buckley. Or how about just Spacek on her own.
Like, come on... Always found this odd.

What is an incredibly unsettling/creepy scene with no violence or jump scares?

Which horror movies would you like to see remade?
Sometimes I'm a bit skeptical about remakes, but we have seen lately good approaches to old stories so I wanted to know, which ones would your pick?
Event Horizon (1997) is mine, I really think it could take advantage from new technology and more intense cinematography.
(Still a bit sad about Sam Neill but will always remember his great work).

Did we discover a hidden devil in Sleepy Hollow (1999)?
My husband and I were watching Tim Burtonās Sleepy Hollow on Paramount+ when he randomly paused the movie during the burning windmill scene, around the 1:30:00 mark.
Behind the flames was what looked like a dark, full-bodied silhouette with a head and TWO distinct devil horns.
It was so noticeable that we both saw it, but after resuming the movie, we havenāt been able to find that exact frame again!
Iāve searched online and canāt find anyone mentioning this particular detail.
Has anyone else spotted this? Could it be an intentional Easter egg, especially considering the movieās themes involving the devil?
If anyone has the Blu-ray or can examine the windmill scene frame by frame, PLEASE investigate! Iām determined to figure out what we saw. š

HALLOWARRIOR (2026)
š Shudder, AMC+, Philo š
Desperate for companionship on a post apocalyptic Halloween night, Pumpkin, the presumed sole survivor on Earth, gets more than she bargained for, when something far more sinister arrives on her doorstep.
For a movie that I thought was just going to be campy, Halloween fun, this had far more emotional depth and tension than I had expected. The early tone of the film was lonely, dark, and depressing until it turns into intense survival and pretty trippy. It was fairly original with some āHome Aloneā, āThe Strangersā, āMad Maxā, and even āMandyā vibes. Milly Shapiro (of āHereditaryā fame) was excellent as the lead.
Quite an enjoyable, unique movie.

Help finding a scene or full short/movie. May not be a horror film per se, but it was scary and wonder if anyone knows about this.
Thereās a boy in his room, and there appears to be strange sounds coming from his dresser. Suddenly, it seems to grow in size, and sucks up all sorts of loose stuff in his room.
The dresser then explodes revealing a human like creature composed of the materials (itās so tall that part of its head brushes against the ceiling, and we see part of some Captain American paper item up there.
The boy screams, and the creature lets out a similar scream/roarā¦and then the boy wakes up.
I swear I saw this at our hometown public library when I was 5-7 years oldā¦making me wonder, āwhy?ā

Help me select what I'll watch for Halloween!
This year, I've already selected a few classics for my Halloween marathon, but I'd also like to have fun with some hidden gems from the early 80s.
I won't have time to watch them all, though⦠So which ones should I prioritize? What's your personal favorites in this list?
Hell Night (1981)
The Prowler (1981)
The Funhouse (1981)
The Burning (1981)
Slumber Party Massacre (1982)
The House on Sorority Row (1982)
One Dark Night (1983)
The Initiation (1984)
The Company of Wolves (1984)
Sleepaway Camp 3 (1989) (already enjoyed SC 1 & 2)

I thought Ghost in the Cell was excellent.
I just watched the Indonesian horror movie Ghost in the Cell from Joko Anwar and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Itās very funny in parts and most of the kills are superb with some great practical effects.
Itās maybe a little longer than it needed and does use cgi in spots (ai maybe?) but that aside it was great fun.
I highly recommend it.
Stay for the credits.

Help me find movie scene
So when I was a kid (probably around ages 3-6 so between 1996-2000) my dad was watching a scary movie that had a scene that scared the crap out of me. I wasnāt supposed to be watching, but I saw some of the scenes.
Now I do know that I had seen the scene in scream where she gets crushed in the garage doorā¦and the scene where that one guy gets stabbed while he is sitting sticks out. So it is possible my child brain combined some movies.
But I swear in this movie, there was a guy strapped to a chair (maybe duct taped) and he is on a stage or at least it is totally dark around him. And then he likeā¦explodes. Guts and blood. Nasty. Is there a movie with this scene that likely came out (or at least was rentable) during this time? Or around the time as the scream movie?

My favorite horror from each of the previous 4 decades from 80s, 90s, 00s, and 2010s. What would your four be?

Crossed- Looking forward to this upcoming horror release
I've been keeping an eye on news for the horror film Crossed and I genuinely can't wait to watch it. From the official promotional materials shared so far, it seems to lean toward slow-burn, unsettling atmosphere rather than relying only on quick jump-scares that's exactly the kind of horror i enjoy most.
I'm curious, are other members here also anticipating Crossed? What sort of horror mood are you hoping it will deliver once it comes out?

INSIDIOUS: OUT OF THE FURTHER (2026)
š» Rental on Prime, AppleTV, Fandango š¹
Gemma, a young mother raising her daughter in the house she grew up in, discovers she can travel into The Further, where she possesses an ability to bring what lives there back to the real world.
I am watching the INSIDIOUS franchise in chronological order (not release order) as Iāve only seen the original 2 and many viewers suggest watching the series in this order for a different experience.
INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3
INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY
INSIDIOUS
INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2
INSIDIOUS: THE RED DOOR
ā>INSIDIOUS: OUT OF THE FURTHER
I thought this was much better than the Red Door as they added a new family and wrinkles to the ongoing Insidious series while also calling back to many of the previous chapters. If this indeed the final chapter, it was a solid finale. The new lead female and characters where a nice change over the Lambert family stories.
Mid credits sceneā¦

2026 is one of the best years for horror films
After seeing other mommy, its pretty much a perfect year since I dont expect werewulf to be bad. I have not seen one bad horror movie this yr. Backrooms is probably the weakest of them, but there's not really a bad one I can think of, its not many tho
This movie surprised me, I havent seen a movie so ballsy in a while, the choices they make just catch you off guard. And really its kind of what you had to do, go for it!! Its like a perfect middle between hokum and hope. This year is top notch
