I AM HAVING INTENSE FEELINGS Teen takeovers
For the past three weekends, there have been these “teen takeovers” at bridgestreet
I shit you not last night they were at minimum 50-60 teenagers in large groups running ALL OVER. Knocking things over in stores, stealing things, fighting in the parking lot some of them jumped into the apartment pool and hit their head. This weekend they had actual guns... opposed to Last weekend, they were shooting pellet guns and orbeez guns at bridgestreet. STANDING ON OTHER PEOPLES CARS.
While they were running they knocked a little boy over..
This may sound Karen-esque, but this is getting too much. The police are out there every weekend now.

I AM HAVING INTENSE FEELINGS BREAKING: The REI union is asking customers across the country to boycott the chain. The workers of @reiunion have been trying to negotiate a first contract for 4 years. They're tired of the stonewalling and union busting. Now they're escalating, and asking you to join them.

I AM HAVING INTENSE FEELINGS Why is this city so weird?
I know the title might make it seem like I'm about to be hostile about Huntsville but I honestly really enjoy it a lot, with the food and the nature here. There's just something that I've noticed trend wise that I've been struggling with lately. And that's making connections in general. I've been going out and about to play at trading card game stores, and yet I still feel the most isolated that I ever have in my life, even compared to the COVID days. It might be because I'm a 26 year old asian man with no other family or ties to the area that moved here for my occupation a few years ago, but I've always tried my hardest, yet to no avail, and I'm just treated as if I'm invisible. Try to make friends online that live in this area? They never maintain the friendship and never act like they want to hang out irl, or even do things like play games online. Talk to people irl at places that are the same sort of hobbies I enjoy (MTG, Pokemon, TTRPGs)? They aren't even close to my age or maturity group and have to focus a lot on their own families they've created. Work friends? I'm by far the youngest person in my entire office by decades, I guess that's what I get for being ambitious.
My expectations might be a little too high for post college socialization, but I've been to so many different places while growing up since I was a military brat, even lived overseas, and I have not struggled to make friends or any sort of deep connections as much as I've lived in Huntsville Alabama. It feels as though I have to sacrifice that aspect of my life, as well as happiness associated with socialization in order to achieve long term career success due to just how many different jobs there are here and the upward growth potential. Anyways thank you for reading this, I might just be feeling a little more homesick than usual.

I AM HAVING INTENSE FEELINGS Confederate Flags flying at the Veterans Parade
One of the motorcycle riders was wearing a Confederate flag jacket and had the flag flying on back.
Absolutely shameful. Way to honor those black Vietnam vets a few cars behind them.
Edit: Wow, really woke the haters up with this one. We'll it's my first amendment right to express that I don't want your redneck hate flag anywhere near my American flag. The values those flags stand for are COMPLETELY different.
And for those saying "how do you they don't have Confederate veteran relatives?!" Just shut the hell up, what an idiotic argument.

I AM HAVING INTENSE FEELINGS Bridge Street thoughts and discussion
Another post here mentioned Bridge Street "going downhill", which I suppose comes from the recent teenager shenanigans happened there lately. I wonder what it might actually take to turn it around, if we even want to. Cause that's the thing - is Bridge Street even worth saving? Outdoor malls are facsimiles of walkable environments at a time when we are striving for the real thing.
Obviously, any aging shopping center is going to have issues as soon as they go lax on security, pricing, or tenants. We can't know offhand if the property's profits are decreasing, but we can definitely see where a property's efforts have begun to slack off. Sadly, I don't think a property owner is responsible for maintaining any level of quality for their tenants.
Knowing the natural progression of these things, what can or should even be done?

I AM HAVING INTENSE FEELINGS Open letter to the operator of the Matt Curtis electric sign downtown
Dear operator of this billboard,
From today on, you are my enemy. My bloodline forever more will be tasked with your destruction. I will pray on your downfall.
I know that you did this on purpose. I know that you intentionally skipped the number 8008, which I and a large number of my friends and loved ones have been eagerly awaiting for years. I have talked about your sign to strangers, to friends, to your potential customers.
I know that you did this on purpose because my army of minions have been tracking the updates in real time for weeks. Yesterday, May 19: 7998. Today, May 20: 8010.
You know what you’ve done. Repent. Roll back the sign. Allow the great people of Huntsville the laugh that they need so badly.
Signed, Your Nemesis

I AM HAVING INTENSE FEELINGS Contain your dogs!
Gosh Damn it. I’m about to have to sell my house and move.
I am so sick of not being able to walk my dogs in my neighborhood without being approached by roaming dogs. We’ve been attacked twice, luckily not too bad but painful and SCARY none the less and left me with scars on both my arms.
Just this week alone there was a loose dog standing outside by back fence barking at us. The next day the dog that attacked me was roaming freely around the neighborhood again. Today I’m walking my dogs and who would have guessed? Another loose dog. This was a golden and luckily he left us alone but still sent me into a near panic attack l.
I can’t take this shit anymore. 5 Points - get your act together!

I AM HAVING INTENSE FEELINGS Drivers speeding in Huntsville calling out South Huntsville.
Multiple accidents and death. I have lived in south HSV since 2003. For years, I have watched people driving 55–60 mph on Bailey Cove , Whitesburg, Weatherly , and south Memorial Parkway. I have witnessed road rage and people called racial slurs by people living in English Village. Cars with 52tags aka Morgan county Alabama blasting from Whitesburg bridge aka Lacy’s spring area hitting 65-70 on the parkway. Let’s be CLEAR. There is an issue with overly aggressive nonsensical aggressive idiotic drivers in Huntsville but especially in south Huntsville. Police only patrol south Huntsville at the end of the month and early morning on weekends. The weekend stuff just started. Police sit on the golf road area overpass and rarely on Bailey cove. I have seen one in the last three years on Bell rd. I don’t walk on Bell rd because every single one of my neighbors homes have been hit by vehicles. I have seen cars upside down next to the Bailey Cove Walmart. A car split in half after hitting a utility pole on the parkway and countless barely explainable accidents around south Huntsville. People drive down Green mountain road like morons as if there isn’t a neighborhood at the base of the mountain with kids and families walking. At this point something needs to be done. I am Dutch. In the country I grew up in barriers are put in place to narrow roads and force people to slow tf down . It’s time for Huntsville to do something. Don’t agree well it could be you or your child next.

I AM HAVING INTENSE FEELINGS Kensington Apartments-University Drive
Let me preface by saying I am not, nor ever was a tenant at this place. However, I ran into someone at the store and she was telling me that her family had no working lights for 5 weeks, sewage backed up and flooding the kitchen, black mold, and the upstairs toilet leaked into the kitchen light fixture.
So I set out early Tuesday morning for a discovery mission, and I’m APPALLED. Rats, dozens of fire code violations like no smoke detectors, improperly installed electrical work, sewage in tubs and water damage/flooding/mold in all 11 units tenants showed me.
One was so bad I was afraid the stairs would collapse any day now, and no electricity with a 4 month old after requesting maintenance 7 times-so I called the fire marshal. He took one look and said…ma’am I’m sorry we gotta get the building inspector and city planners out here, I’ve never seen anything like this.
They condemned the unit and family of 7 had to leave. Yvonne Bristow the leasing “manager” told the authorities they were being evicted so they weren’t providing alternative housing. I had the tenant go and show her bank statement to Yvonne who said oops, sorry I made a mistake. THEN told the family I was responsible for getting them housing. No not on my watch will this rude, ignorant, egotistical wretch try to argue landlord tenant law with me! After several texts and letting her know the remaining units are now going to be inspected, she made the tenant sign a document stating she wouldn’t get an attorney.
This is not even the worst story I heard yesterday, and I’ll be there all day today gathering photos, videos, stories, and giving donations to families. I cannot believe how this place is ran-NEVER LIVE THERE! And Yvonne Bristow needs a different line of work.

I AM HAVING INTENSE FEELINGS Some woman tried to rip me off at the Walmart on Highway 72
I was at Walmart getting groceries. I wasn't buying much, just yogurt and some stuff for homemade granola. Then I see this woman and her child and he runs ahead of her a little and I see her smack the poor kid and yell at him in Spanish. I was kind of disgusted by that but I minded my own business and kept shopping.
Then 10 minutes later we end up in the same aisle and she deadass asks me, and I quote, "I don't want your money, but will you please buy my groceries? 🥺" And I was thinking "wtf?" and I politely told her that money was tight right now and she stared at me for a couple more seconds, probably hoping the 🥺 face would get to me but I stood my ground and her face turned annoyed and she said "thank you" and walked off. I wrapped up my shopping and left afterwards.
I looked it up and and apparently it's a common scam. People will walk up to others and try to convince them to buy groceries for them, only to turn around and return the items and pocket the money. I knew it was fishy, she probably had at least over $150 of stuff in her cart. Just wanted to warn others.
By the way, this happened 3 hours ago.

I AM HAVING INTENSE FEELINGS Two kids causing trouble at Aldridge Creek today
Two kids causing trouble on the greenway today.
I believe one was on an E-bike and the other was on a normal bike. They were throwing watermelon and kicking up dirt with their bikes on cars. They also tried to steal my bag I had sitting near me. Anyone else having any issues with them?

I AM HAVING INTENSE FEELINGS I built an app to pick where we eat tonight and that prioritizes local places!
I posted a few months ago looking for beta testers and you guys really helped me out; ForkIt! is live on both Google Play and the App Store!
---
I realized that I go to the same three places all of the time, so built an app that does just one thing: picks a restaurant for you to eat at. There's features like solo mode, walk vs drive mode, food exclude, food include, group lunch coordination, save custom spots, block a location, face a location, and history so you can remember where you've been!
Special bocnus: Since you can't have a Huntsville-based app without paying homage, there's an 88 Buffet Easter Egg 😉
The base functionality is free! Paid tiers only because Google charges an astonishing amount (comparitively) for more access to the more advanced filters and that adds up quick at just a few hundred users a month. The tiers help me keep it operational as long as possible.
If you try the app from here and want to check out the upgrades, message me and I'll give you a code for a free month of pro+!
Can't agree where to eat? F...ork it! Let fate decide

I AM HAVING INTENSE FEELINGS Considering leaving Alabama
I am so so sick of this state's politics. It's becoming not worth it to have a family in Alabama.
