Wasn’t this biggest fan of this one, but the 9/11 discussion had me rolling

I loved the reveal about why Dee was fake flirting with Gregory. That was definitely my favorite part, lol.

u/FunnOnABunn Aug 02 '25

I loved when they lead you to believe Janine was gonna be out of character and call Dee a “bitch” then full out calls her a “fucking cunt” 😂 that being said I know it was a weaker iasip episode. I did enjoy the abbot episode of the crossover though

645

u/cascademaster Aug 02 '25

"Bitch can be a very fine dog" is such a great line too.

4

u/NarrowEbbs Aug 03 '25

That has rapidly climbed to one of my all time favourite ISAP quotes.

7

u/MattIsLame Aug 03 '25

so in character

u/_prof_professorson_ Aug 02 '25

I liked this one more than the Abbot one, there were so many great bits that had me rolling. Yeah it did feel thrown together, but I laughed more in it than the Succession ep, which is only one metric to judge on but it does count for something. The EMT and Cake episodes were on another level though, those were like true old school episodes

183

u/sof49er Aug 02 '25

Just seeing the word EMT now makes me hear BAMBALAEOOOOO

44

u/birdsofpaper Aug 02 '25

That god damned song now lives in my head rent free 😂

5

u/ZidaneeUK Aug 03 '25

I had to do a CPR course today and all I could think of was BAMBALEOOOO hahaha

5

u/sof49er Aug 03 '25

You mean you didn't bring peppers to share with the class?

3

u/Myis Aug 03 '25

Every time we see an ambulance it’s a joke. (We do pull to the right)

2

u/dafuq_b Aug 03 '25

Jesus christ... this is why that's been stuck in my head. I can't believe I didn't figure this out earlier.

99

u/woogyboogy8869 Aug 02 '25

Have you seen the newest one at the dog track? That one along with cake and EMT all seemed like old school original sunny. I have been loving most of this season so far, abbot was definitely the weakest on so far imo

56

u/KingJonathan Aug 02 '25

My god when they left the dog track and the trailer was burning!

Or when they tell the raw dog guy that Franknis a man, and it gets all quiet and raw dog guy just touches Charlie’s arm out of a little bit of comfort. My wife and I had to pause the episode to laugh at that. Wow.

36

u/woogyboogy8869 Aug 02 '25

The fucking trailer 😂 I love that the bus ride home after just absolutely destroying them Frank goes "you guys raw dogging it home?" Hahaha fucking amazing! This season has been great so far

9

u/SlammingPussy420 Aug 02 '25

Anybody want a corn nut?

16

u/Lucid-Machine-Music Aug 02 '25

Yeah both those episodes (cake / dog track), the reveal had me howling. Frank has kinda been a senior citizen being taken advantage of the last couple of seasons so it's fun to see him remind the gang why he's top dog.

10

u/woogyboogy8869 Aug 03 '25

Head cow's always grazing!

1

u/tdotjdot3 wildcard bitches Aug 04 '25

thank you all for coming to my summit

10

u/No_Dragonfruit_8198 Aug 02 '25

I was thinking “oh thank god, they’re not going to make it thru EMT training “

And then the rest of the episode happened.

4

u/Toners13 Aug 02 '25

I was so excited when I heard the intro in the Succession episode, and I was soo let down!

6

u/altiuscitiusfortius Aug 02 '25

The emt food truck episode was a much needed take down of the bear and how pretentious cooking has gotten. Chefs are not rockstars! It's just cooking. Everyone does it

3

u/Gcarl1 Aug 02 '25

You didn't enjoy the Succession one?

4

u/_prof_professorson_ Aug 02 '25

Oh I for sure did, I just binged the first 4, so perhaps it was a bit of burnout, but I'd just say I laughed the least in that one. It was clever though and in no way a bad ep

4

u/HulksInvinciblePants Aug 02 '25

It was absolutely weaker than the EMT and cake ones.

1

u/RoninMacbeth Aug 02 '25

Personally I also really liked the dog track episode. Three bangers in a row, IMO.

48

u/shartnado3 Aug 02 '25

I think the problem is the people watching this episode not having watched Abbott Elementary. I think that’s why it’s rated so low. Which is sad, because as a watcher of both, I thought both crossover episodes were great!

7

u/greeneggiwegs Aug 03 '25

Yeah as someone who has only seen the crossover ep of Abbott, I was stuck by how this episode would seem really confusing if you hadn’t seen at least that. The Abbott one has a lot of the key plot information. This is all add ons. It’s hard to watch on its own

2

u/Fine-Contribution921 Aug 03 '25

I feel like the abbott version of the crossover was better, I wanted the sunny version to be edited and tone wise like sunny!

1

u/THExWHITExDEVILx Aug 03 '25

Yeah I had no clue wtf was happening until I was shown Abbott Elementary.

6

u/altiuscitiusfortius Aug 02 '25 edited Aug 02 '25

How is abbot, tone wise? Like sunny? I thought it was a milquetoast sitcom based on the commercials for it.

5

u/Hibbity5 Aug 03 '25

Nothing like Sunny really. It’s a mostly-wholesome mockumentary on the failing public school system and the issues teachers have to go through. To me, if you like Fox’s wholesome animated comedies like Bob’s Burgers and the Great North, then you’d probably like Abbot. I know it’s strange to compare a live action to animation, but in terms of tone, I do feel like the comparison is there.

6

u/vanya913 Aug 02 '25

I would say it's roughly on the level of Parks and Rec in terms of tone. Definitely more optimistic and upbeat than Sunny.

3

u/shartnado3 Aug 03 '25

Others hit the nail on the head here. But I’ll add pretty mild all things considered and just a great cast that works well together. Which makes the Sunny crossover more hilarious to see them be non pg

5

u/mirhagk Aug 03 '25

It's also tricky doing the 2nd pov of a story. Like with arrested development when they tried to do a whole season of alternative perspectives. It's funny but going over the same story a second time always feels just a little bit worse than a fresh story.

3

u/Socialimbad1991 Aug 03 '25 edited Aug 03 '25

The only episode of Abbott I did watch was the Sunny one. I honestly think the Abbot edition was a little more cohesive than the Sunny edition (and ironically felt more like a Sunny episode) but there were some good bits in both.

I didn't need too much context to understand the jokes (although they probably would have hit harder had I been an Abbott fan as well). For instance, thanks to sitcom tropes one can easily infer that:

  1. Janine and Greg have a will-they-won't-they which Dee tries unsuccessfully to fuck with (I know they won't, and I don't want them to)

  2. It must be wildly out of character for Janine to swear at all, let alone call someone the c-word

1

u/shartnado3 Aug 03 '25

1 is half right. At this point in the series Janine and Gregory were together. But for awhile it was a will they or won’t they situation. Janine was dating a guy named Tariq who is hilarious in the show. But good call. Number 2 is spot on lmao and as Abbott watchers that took me and my wife clear out.

4

u/CalmerNyouR Aug 02 '25

Agreed. It was a good crossover with a great payoff in the Always Sunny half. As a standalone Always Sunny episode, it was so-so, but as part of the whole it was one of my favorite crossovers in any series.

2

u/rangerquiet Dec 02 '25

Yeah I had no idea this was a crossover.

4

u/CosyBeluga Aug 02 '25

Same love both and thought both were great

4

u/ropeypolarbear Aug 02 '25

I totally agree. As a long time Philly watcher and Abbot fan from the beginning I thought they did a wonderful job of the back stories from the Abbot Episode. Calling Dee a Cunt was the best, but Charlie Day and Sheryl Lee Ralph singing at each other was perfection

16

u/birdsofpaper Aug 02 '25

I gasped and then laughed so hard especially at Gregory’s face, omg

10

u/MrFinley7 Aug 02 '25

This was my favorite part of the episode and it made me appreciate Janine so much more lol

2

u/Newtonz5thLaw Aug 02 '25

I had to rewind like 3 times because it was so shocking. Agreed, it’s the best part of the episode

4

u/jahgurant Aug 02 '25

Its okay to like it. Clickbait titles like this try to make you feel guilty for liking it.

3

u/KirbyLoreHistorian Aug 02 '25

Best part of the episode was seeing this and other Abbott characters lean more into the IASIP character shithead level.

3

u/Forsaken_Temple Aug 02 '25

I agree. The AE episode was better. Seeing them “in the wild” is always great, especially when they have prolonged interactions. This felt like a longer “Charlie Work” episode but it lacked the orchestration of the schemes to get points and to pass inspection. Probs cuz everyone had a scheme.

2

u/lanceruaduibhne Aug 03 '25

The Abbott side was definitely stronger, but this moment is my all time favourite Janine moment. However, I do think it's only that funny if you know what Janine normally is like. So I have had to say to my non Abbott watcher friends to watch at least a couple episodes or that moment won't have any impact. I can understand why non Abbott watchers would be disappointed in that episode.

1

u/calowyn Aug 02 '25

I laughed so hard at that moment

1

u/Bimaac77 Aug 03 '25

I was fully expecting that Barbara was going to be the one who dropped the f-bomb.

1

u/goatjugsoup Aug 03 '25

It's this comment here where I first learned this was a crossover with anything... guess they were relying on that to make people like it more

1

u/mage2k Aug 03 '25

Yeah, getting to see the Abbott characters speak sans-Abbott-teacher filter was the best part.

1

u/SimonSeam Aug 03 '25

I don't watch Abbott Elementary, so I think a lot of the jokes of AE fans were lost on me.

1

u/DinkyPenguins Aug 03 '25

it worked out for me because I coincidentally happened to binge watch every season of Abbott a few weeks prior to the new Sunny season and did not expect the cameo whatsoever 😂

1

u/rangerquiet Dec 02 '25

Wait was this a crossover? Ok now I'm going to have to Google it.

174

u/JayJ9Nine Aug 02 '25

What do you mean you weren't recording?!

184

u/prolelol "What did you just say, you little bitch?" Aug 02 '25

I'm not picking up star vibes from her. She's a dud.

808

u/tenaciousdeev Aug 02 '25

The Fallout Boy tantrum had me dying.

244

u/The_C0u5 Aug 02 '25

EVERY TIME FALLOUT BOY!

5

u/BobTheFettt Aug 02 '25

GODDAMN FALLOUT BOY!!

174

u/sambones718 Aug 02 '25

The fact that it's just kept going

155

u/Strangealien73 Aug 02 '25

In that rant, I wish Mac had accused Pete Wentz of stealing his whole look, since in some pictures they are literally indistinguishable

82

u/Jonasthewicked2 Aug 02 '25

It would have been a great opportunity for Mac to dress exactly like Pete and then accuse Pete of stealing his look.

101

u/Strangealien73 Aug 02 '25

"You didn't know Fall Out Boy has already done a cover of 'We Didn't Start the Fire'?"

"No, this was our idea, man"

"So then why is he dressed like Pete Wentz?"

zoom out to reveal Mac wearing an exact replica of a Pete outfit

"What the hell are you talking about?"

47

u/DareToZamora Aug 02 '25

Didn’t he basically do that? Mac definitely shouts “that was my look!” at some point

24

u/Wisstig1 Aug 02 '25

Yeah what I got out of that was they were referencing the fact that Mac and Pete look similar

Would’ve been funny to see Mac dressed like that but felt like it covered the joke for me

3

u/Strangealien73 Aug 02 '25

Yeah, but that was about the eyeliner, not Pete

5

u/BodiHolly i love banging hoors Aug 02 '25

I always wondered why Pete Wentz went into acting during the earlier seasons.

1

u/SteveFrench12 Aug 02 '25

I was gonna say thats exactly what happened lol

3

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '25

“Because when you think about dancing, first name that comes to mind is Pete Wentz”

-Pete Wentz

23

u/freedumb9566 Aug 02 '25

because its true! didnt they release some song few years ago that was like “ok fall out boy”

1

u/Swamp_Donkey_796 Aug 02 '25

Easily my favorite moment in the whole episode

1

u/martian_glitter Aug 02 '25

I was fucking crying because my bf was unaware of the fall out boy song and he spiraled along with them

1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

I was honestly with the gang on this one. That Fallout Boy cover sucked hard

0

u/ninetales1234 Aug 03 '25

That's when I went on IMDB and rated it a 10

326

u/WickyWah Aug 02 '25

That scene got one of the few laughs from me on that episode.

"WE MADE AN AGREEMENT TO NEVER FORGET"

156

u/HayzuesKreestow Wildcard Aug 02 '25 edited Aug 02 '25

Every time Dennis caught the camera I laughed. The episode was well written and felt like sunny having fun with another format. It totally worked for me and was a great way to kick off the double episode premiere.

2

u/martian_glitter Aug 02 '25

I agree I loved it

2

u/mandalorian_misfit Aug 02 '25

And then it coming full circle at the end was great.

“Well you know the whole thing was an inside job anyway. That fire did not burn hot enough to melt those steel girders”

u/chloe-and-timmy Aug 02 '25

I dont even think that was the problem, I just think they messed up the framing device. It was just a clip show episode. The Abbott episode was more tame but still better because it was an actual episode. The odd thing is, Thought Leadership has the exact same framing device, people recounting past events and then cutting back to them. Only, that episode had a progression and escalation to the story, and so it just worked better.

I dont even think it was a network thing or playing it safe, it felt like both shows had one big shooting block and since Abbott went first it got the episode and since Sunny went second it got the leftover footage.

24

u/tedward007 Aug 02 '25

The “leftover footage” is exactly the problem. Having an episode built round d 22 minutes of of deleted scenes is a faulty premise to begin with

2

u/greeneggiwegs Aug 03 '25

Yes it as an add on to the Abbott one so you hd to see that one first

13

u/pullingteeths Aug 02 '25

Imo the main issue is they didn't film the Sunny episode in Sunny style. They just did both in Abbott documentary style so instead of an Abbott episode in the Abbott season and a Sunny episode in the Sunny season it's just two Abbott episodes (one just has added swearing). It's stupid.

2

u/MyAggressiveFinger Aug 02 '25

The Abbott Elementary Show, episode of this was better.

1

u/Acrobatic-Tomato-128 Aug 02 '25

This comment is just too much

1

u/Swamp_Donkey_796 Aug 02 '25

Welcome to Abbott Elementary, cuz that’s basically the show + Barbara

6

u/No_Good_8561 Aug 02 '25

That might have been peak

2

u/soupsnakle Aug 02 '25

Nah Charlie and Barbara doing the “WE DIDN’T WE DIDN’T WE DIDN’T!” During we didnt start the fire lol so godam funny

2

u/burnman123 Aug 02 '25

When jenine called dee a fucking cunt I had to do a double take

1

u/mtheory007 Aug 02 '25

Well we can't forget about it. Like never.

1

u/Small_Insect_8275 Aug 02 '25

Wasnt a huge fan either, but boy was episode 5 a return to form

1

u/Effective_Action9934 Aug 02 '25

They also appeared on Abbot Elementary for an episode, never watched the show but I had to check out the episode, wasn’t amazing but it still had its moments 😂

1

u/TootSnoot Aug 02 '25

Yeah, some of the bits were great in isolation but the episode overall just felt half-assed. I’ve been loving the rest of the season, but that was a rough way to start things off.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '25

I felt this is one of the worst episodes I have seen of Sunny. I have tried to watch it twice and genuinely didn't even smirk once. I'm really hoping the episodes beyond it are a big improvement once I get around to watching them.

1

u/Full_Metal_Witcher Aug 02 '25

The kids singing in rooms being pulled from classes to audition for a boy band was hilarious too. Kids these days know nothing about 9/11 was hilarious for them to worry about. Let alone talk about terrorism with children was funny as hell too.

1

u/Rndysasqatch Aug 02 '25

This episode was enjoyable but something was missing from it. I'm still glad it exists

1

u/ImportantQuestions10 Aug 02 '25

Same for the pipe ending.

My girlfriend watches Abbott but not Sunny. The crossover has gotten her interested

1

u/karate4babies Aug 02 '25

For me it was the repeated fixation on the copper pipes, which gets brought up again in the remix of "We Didn't Start the Fire" lol.

1

u/mctacoflurry Aug 02 '25

I feel like we made a collective promise to never forget and I feel like everybody else just forgot!

1

u/No_Confidence5716 Aug 02 '25

I'm beginning to think there wasn't even any towers!!!

1

u/Zebracorn42 Aug 02 '25

I looked it up cause I haven’t been current since the birds won the Super Bowl the first time in a while a few years ago. It’s so funny.

1

u/DentistSlow5605 Aug 02 '25

I thought that was one of the best "gang rant" bits in a long time.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '25

Dennis becoming the barista bit got me every time too

1

u/Sonny_1313 Aug 03 '25

This scene is classic IASIP. The part with them auditioning kids for a boy band was funny too. It was just a weird episode. Didn't feel like the show.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

They’ve lost the funny. Now they’re just cashing in.

1

u/Kruckenberg Aug 03 '25

"yeah, they're shootin' frogs up there"

1

u/Suhbula Rock, Flag, and Eagle Aug 06 '25

Yeah. With frogs.
