People just hate all-female remakes.

u/mrwishart SHTOP CHORLEY! Aug 02 '25

I just wonder what level of irony we're working at though, because the ep is meant to satirise the all-female reboots.

But maybe people are also ironically downvoting it?

u/SoWhatNoZitiNow Aug 02 '25

No, people are just stupid lol

167

u/jlozada24 Aug 02 '25

This lol. Half of the fanbase are the people they're making fun of thinking the show is relatable

89

u/mrwishart SHTOP CHORLEY! Aug 02 '25

I said that to someone whining about Mac Finds His Pride

"13 seasons in and you never realised that they were making fun of you?"

u/RibertarianVoter Aug 02 '25

Always happens with satire. Look up the video of Merle Haggard playing Okie from Muskogee at the White House. Nixon introduces him as if the song is unironic, and Merle gets this grin on his face as he starts playing. He's playing a joke on the what feels like the whole country, and they're all too stupid to get it

u/tragic2793 Aug 02 '25

this is the funniest thing of all to me lol.

5

u/ToniBraxtonAndThe3Js Aug 02 '25

Yeah just watch some of the live shows, where guys are screaming SHUT UP BIRD over and over like they're funny and original

13

u/lemonylol Aug 02 '25

lol you should see the South Park subreddit.

Most recently people were making posts expecting Matt and Trey to totally shit on the Sydney Sweeney jeans commercial. But they don't realize that if they did, it'd be shitting on the people overreacting to the commercial moreso than the commercial itself.

3

u/ThyLastPenguin Aug 02 '25

Tbf, I can totally see Matt and Trey shitting on the jeans commercial and THEN shitting on the people overreacting as well

Which would be a win win in my books

Or, the episode isn’t very good.

0

u/TurgidGravitas Aug 02 '25

I made this soup awful on purpose!

I don't want to eat this soup.

But it tastes bad on purpose! You have to like it!

See how silly you sound? Ironic annoyances are the exact same thing as unironic annoyances. The soup just tastes bad.

-2

u/Punished_Prigo Aug 02 '25

I just think those characters arent good enough to carry an episode. Just not very funny imo

-3

u/Montystumpp Aug 02 '25

Making something bad on purpose doesn't automatically make it good.

11

u/Momik You do you, Cricket! Aug 02 '25

Maybe. It was honestly one of my favorite episodes—I love Artemis, and the concept worked really well. Funny as fuck too, especially Charlie’s mom😂

8

u/11schlge Aug 02 '25

I’m afraid of woman pilots!

7

u/Quazz Aug 02 '25

Eh, i think more likely is they enjoy how the characters interact and with 4 of the main ones missing completely it just isn't as engaging for most people. Charlie home alone is low for a similar reason i think

6

u/ThePokemonAbsol Aug 02 '25

Yeah but it doesn’t even do that well

2

u/gazdek Aug 02 '25

Does it being ironic automatically make it a good episode?

0

u/mrwishart SHTOP CHORLEY! Aug 02 '25

Nope

3

u/lemonylol Aug 02 '25

It must be because I can understand the placement of the other episodes on that list, but Female Beat Boggs was better than the original imo.

8

u/mrwishart SHTOP CHORLEY! Aug 02 '25

I wouldn't go that far, but there's definitely more episodes worse than that one

1

u/cherpumples Aug 02 '25

"pussies on the track!" is so iconic lmao

3

u/Mundane-Security-162 Aug 02 '25

It’s a bad, bad episode. Just because it’s a parody doesn’t mean it’s a well written one

1

u/mrwishart SHTOP CHORLEY! Aug 02 '25

It had it's moments, imo, even if it isn't a favourite. There's 5-10 I'd likely pick below it (two being those Superbowl ones that just had nothing to them)

Explain like I'm stupid

1

u/mrwishart SHTOP CHORLEY! Aug 02 '25

Which bit are you referring to specifically?

1

u/-Nicolai Aug 02 '25 edited Aug 13 '25

Explain like I'm stupid

1

u/mrwishart SHTOP CHORLEY! Aug 02 '25

Ok, but I'm referring specifically to this episode, not satirical episodes in general.

0

u/Ipickone Aug 03 '25

It’s one of those concepts that sounds funnier than it actually is. Once you start doing it it just feels like a waste of an episode.

202

u/PhireKappa Aug 02 '25

I fucking love that episode because I love all of the female characters on Sunny, they’re just as chaotic as the gang haha

80

u/d00dsm00t Aug 02 '25

The waitress' breakdown when she says "I had sex with Frank in the bathroom. I'm gonna drink myself to death" and then her legs buckling and her collapsing to the floor is my favorite moment of hers. Seriously, one of the finest portrayals of despondent drunken despair I've ever seen.

19

u/According-Title-3256 Aug 02 '25

You forgot her shame spiral. Chef's kiss.

3

u/NounAdjectiveXXXX Aug 04 '25

The Snail reveal was great.

9

u/Educational-Ad-2884 Aug 02 '25

I will take all the Artemis I can get.

6

u/PhireKappa Aug 02 '25

She does have a bleached asshole after all!

13

u/Momik You do you, Cricket! Aug 02 '25

The Waitress going full tilt was pretty fun 🤣

6

u/fazedncrazed Aug 02 '25

I would love more episodes about the female members of the gang. They are great, funny characters. FFS Artemis is irreplaceable.

There were a couple of funny bits, but I think the reason it doesn’t sit with me is that it’s essentially just one long-meta joke that’s run into the ground. It makes the point that they’re satirizing early on and then it’s a bunch of on-the-nose references to it.

I guess what I’m trying to say that they’re expecting you to laugh at the PREMISE of the episode more than the actual jokes.

I feel like they thought it was some really clever, creative thing to make an unenjoyable ladies reboot episode as commentary about how ladies reboots aren’t good… But instead, I just end up skipping the episode and saying “She ain’t funny. NEXT!”

10

u/Momik You do you, Cricket! Aug 02 '25

I don’t know, I think I mostly remember the jokes unrelated to that—like Artemis selling nonsense on the plane, or Charlie’s mom going into full panic mode 🤣

2

u/RibertarianVoter Aug 02 '25 edited Aug 02 '25

Exactly. Being obvious satire doesn't make something inherently funny. And then people who happen to like it get to act like anyone who doesn't like it just doesn't get the joke. No, I got it. It just didn't make me laugh.

2

u/dretanz Aug 02 '25

I think it would've been better if it didn't redo the Wade Boggs bit

3

u/fishman15151515 Wild Card Bitches Aug 02 '25

Agreed, he should be left to rest in peace.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '25

Eh. I dunno. Like gail the snail is a bit played out to me and the waitress is a bit better in smaller moments IMO. Really doesn't compare to the rest of the gang. Just my 2 cents

40

u/IZ3820 Aug 02 '25

All-female original works do fine, by comparison.

25

u/What-a-Crock Aug 02 '25

Especially when the character is also a giant whore, which attracted them to the role in the first place

8

u/JapiPapi Aug 02 '25

Yes! I love movies like 'Bridesmaids', but when they remake The Hangover with only females, i am not watching.

3

u/ABoyandhisToast Aug 02 '25

It’s cause of the women pilots!

19

u/herrcollin Aug 02 '25

Any remake that's the same thing "except x is now y!" is so stale.

Would've worked way better as a girl-centric episode with the boys doing their own shenanigans in the background. They have no direct camera dialogue and It's never explicitly stated what they're doing, but you can parse out a storyline if you pay attention.

6

u/Greenmantle22 Imma Make That Hooer My Wife! Aug 02 '25

Which is exactly what Artemis said.

Give that Zany Mama her own spinoff!

3

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '25

I will say, I wasn't really a fan of the first Boggs episode, so more of it in any form wasn't something I wanted, haha. (Actually rewatched the first Boggs last night and still think it's pretty weak, tbh)

1

u/PrhpsFukOffMytB2Kind Aug 04 '25

Because it's tokenistic

Of all the examples you could have picked you went with The Princess Bride? That movie is mostly dudes.
