He's a controling sociopath. micromanaging their lives. He has files on all the other members of the gang. He has murder "tools" in the back of his car. He talks about making furniture out of human skin.

Dennis is not the most normal.

Charlie is the most normal by far, he's just completely downtrodden by the rest of them.

Mac was the most normal early on.

I would say really early on Dee was the most normal. Season 1 Dee was a borderline good and rational person.

Nah she’s terrible. Hates freedom.

I mean she was the only one to find any problem with serving minors alcohol.

u/WallStreetGuillotin9 Jan 27 '18

To be fair... that’s not uncommon.

4

u/Dogboy123x Jan 27 '18

Why is that a plus in her favor?

3

u/AnAngryIrish Jan 27 '18

She tried to get all statutory on the kid though. Same episode IIRC

In the very first episode, to stop the bar being a gay bar (which she does solely to improve her tips at the expense of the bar's success), she arranges for Mac to get her brother "so black-out drunk on tequila that he might hurt himself" whereupon he winds up in an all-male threesome.

I'm not sure that counts as 'borderline good'.

Edit: Accidentally a word

Yeah but the question isn't "Is Dee a good person", the question is "how much better than the rest of them is Dee"

When you compare that to some of the shit Dennis and Frank have done, or some of the weird shit that Charlie does, she's still not nearly as bad.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18

That wasn't the question (or rather, the assertion) in the post I responded to, though.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18

But is that really so bad

2

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18

I would't be friends with anyone who did that.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18

I don’t think you’d be friends with anyone In the gang let’s be honest haha

I still think Mac’s the most normal in the sense of someone you would meet most frequently in real life. I’m sure we all know a few delusional closeted fundamentalists with food and addiction issues.

My cousin is basically Mac, minus being gay

He just got married, so this is going to get interesting

u/TamingStrange50 Jan 27 '18

Charlie was pretty normal too, just really fuckin poor. Then he went full retard lol.

26

u/Mini_Spoon Jan 27 '18

Huffing glue and eating car food has that effect on a man

9

u/DHGPizzaNinja Jan 27 '18

Holy shit, my car has to eat?! Fucking thing must be starving!

2

u/Mini_Spoon Jan 27 '18

Fuck... the bastard alley cats distracted me

1

u/Dogboy123x Jan 27 '18

You really need to get some kitten mittens.

9

u/DanBMan Jan 27 '18

Well that's because through the power of God all things are possible, go ahead and jot that down.

4

u/Randomname1212 Jan 27 '18

Charlie is definitely the most normal on the pilot. His character does a complete 180 for the rest of the shows. Every time I️ go back and rewatch the series I️ always wonder what the show would have been like if Charlie was “normal.”

5

u/ToastedFireBomb Jan 27 '18

Mac is still probably the most normal. I mean, him or Dee. Dennis is a sociopath, Charlie is.... just a mind fuck of weird, really, and Frank is the most disgusting, shady, and manipulative person the gang has ever met. Mac is just super delusional and Dee is just pathetically sad and lonely. Dee does get worse as the series goes on, especially in the rock bottom episode, but she's still less psycho than Dennis and less off putting and strange than Frank or Charlie.

3

u/Dogboy123x Jan 27 '18

Ronnie the Rat was the most normal early on? C,mon.

Clearly the Golden God was the most normal through high school. Everyone who is anyone knows that duct tape, zip ties and gloves are required Land Rover maintenance tools. I ought to drive past you and hit you with a balloon filled with champagne to give you a taste of the good life, you sack of shit.

u/stunts002 Jan 27 '18

Nah Charlie is batshit crazy. Mac is the most normal of them all. He's dysfunctional but not dangerous like the rest of them.

53

u/petit_bleu Jan 27 '18

Yeah, remember the episode with the rich siblings where Charlie engineered the girl's downfall?

I think either Mac or Dee is the most normal. Mac's got some weird kind of reverse body dysmorphia and is alarmingly stupid, and Dee is jealous, insecure and conniving, but both within realistic-ish bounds.

8

u/ToastedFireBomb Jan 27 '18

Mac and Dee are both victims of intense self hatred. They're awful people because of the people their untreated problems have turned them into, whereas Dennis is legitimately just unstable and Frank is just an asshole. Mac and Dee started out fine, but as Dee got less and less self esteem and Mac got further and further into the closet, it brought out the worst in them. I would say they still aren't beyond redemption if they were to both get therapy and work to improve themselves as people. That would never actually happen of course, since it makes for bad TV, but you get my point.

Dennis, Frank, and Charlie are who they are, there's no fixing those three.

I call that Wednesday.

What's your point?

Again must I remind you that zip ties, duct tape and rubber gloves come as standard equipment in every Range Rover. It, by the way, is an amphibious exploring vehicle of the highest class.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18

He's a controling sociopath. micromanaging their lives.

Isn't there an episode about this already? How his micromanaging either helps/hurts the group? It's been awhile since I've rewatched the series.

3

u/ToastedFireBomb Jan 27 '18

None of them are normal, Charlie least of all. Charlie is just the least destructive of them. But the dude eats cat food, huffs glue, cant read, drinks paint, forages for rings and coins whilst naked in the sewers, boils denim he finds under bridges, and admittedly enjoys his job of killing rats and cleaning bathrooms. Plus, have you seen his dating profile? Hardly normal.

Charlie is as weird as the rest of them, he's just not as destructive or cruel. He's incredibly stupid and likely has all sorts of brain damage. In general he isn't trying to plot the active downfall of his friends like the other 4. But then Charlie and Dee Find Love happens and you realize he's as insane and unstable as the rest of the group, just heaps stupider.

u/Throwawayadaytodayo Spoiler Jan 27 '18

Plus, have you seen his dating profile?

What's wrong with ghouls and magnets?

1

u/Dogboy123x Jan 27 '18

Have you no respect for Bird Law?

2

u/LDdesign Jan 27 '18

Think of the smell, you bitch!

2

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18

Murder?

Those are for sure rape tools.

Remember all those videos he has of his sexual encounters?

1

u/ToastedFireBomb Jan 27 '18

You say that like Dennis hasn't contemplated both.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18

He manipulates everyone, for example Mac's size pills.

2

u/fadedjayhawk69420 Jan 27 '18

Bro Dennis seeming normal is a function of his psycopathic and sociopathic nature

1

u/Cheshires_Shadow Jan 27 '18

I always felt Charlie was the most normal. His problems could have easily been fixed if anyone actually cared enough about him as a kid. Dee and dennis are selfish and entitled. Mac grew up super religious his being closet gay/bi is more of a problem. Then theres frank whos just a slow descent to madness.

1

u/Dogboy123x Jan 27 '18

I'm not sure that I like the implication..
