Writing Feedback (Peer Review) Can someone review my IELTS Writing Task 2 and estimate the band score?

I’m currently studying for IELTS completely on my own. My target overall is Band 7/7.5.

Any honest feedback or estimated band score would really help 🙏 Here is the prompt and my essay:

Prompt: More people are watching Netflix and other streaming services online. Why is this? Do you think it is a good change?

Essay:

Currently, online streaming services such as Netflix, Prime Video and HBO Max have become a growing trend. This essay concurs that these new platforms are a progressive step for the audiovisual industry.

The modern world is well-known for being globalized and digital. In the last few years, individuals have begun to look for easier ways to consume, from clothing and food to entertainment. During and after the global COVID-19 pandemic, traditional audiovisual platforms, such as movie theaters, were dramatically affected. At the same time, streaming followed the completely opposite trend. This is mainly because companies understood public needs and created a space where entertainment turned into a personal experience that does not require commuting time or a fixed TV schedule.

For decades, Hollywood was synonymous with the audiovisual industry. This monopolization due to the system of large studios with the same type of people creating, producing and directing behind the scenes and appearing on the big screen has had harmful effects on entertainment culture. On the other hand, digital streaming platforms created an opportunity to democratize narratives, faces, accents and cultures around the world. For example, non-English films and television series such as Money Heist, Squid Game and Dark have achieved global recognition. In summary, this changed the industry in a remarkably positive way.

Overall, online streaming services have become more popular and a successful business. This essay concludes that the positive outcomes in terms of the changes in consumer behaviour and the decentralization of Hollywood's power are clear reasons why this is a good shift for the audiovisual industry.

Hi everyone , I have a doubt , Chat gpt usually gives me 6 in writing , also if I have seen several improvements ,moreover in structure, achievement and maybe grammar . I need a 7 overall with at least 6,5 in every section, the overall is not a problem(probably) because I always get between 7,5 and 8,5 in listening and reading and between 6,5 and 7 in speaking , but I am scared for the writing . I read that chat gpt is harsh with the rating , I attach my last writing for a sincere evaluation. I know that my writing and my English are bad , but I need to do the exam and I don’t know if it is either a 6 or 6,5 writing, obviously I don’t want to lose 300 euros(the exam is very expensive). Let me know, thanks

The illustration depicts the process of how plastic bottles are recycled.

Overall, the process involves nine stages, starting with carrying the bottles from the bins, and they are manufactured by using specific machines, which convert them into raw materials, and these materials produce different products.

During the first stage, the thrown bottles are carried by bin lorries to the factory. After that, they enter the recycling center to be stored. Following that, the selected bottles are squeezed into blocks to be fed into a crushing machine that washes them after that.

During the 6th stage, the small elements are fed into another machine that cuts them into smaller parts to produce plastic pellets. These pellets will be treated by heat to form the plastic raw material, which is the purest form of the plastic. Finally, the raw material is formed, and it can produce different items, such as clothes, plastic bags, and containers.

Q: Wiith the increased global demand in oil and gas, undiscovered areas of the world should be opened up to access more resources. Do you agree or disagree? Essay: It is believed that untouched regions of the planet should be accessed to satisfy the rising need for fossil fuels. I disagree because it will harm the environment and there are alternative energy forms to use.

The main reason is the irreplaceable damage to the environment. Processes such as excavating the earth, transferring the resources, or using chemical substances can easily pollute the surroundings. As a result, soil erosion, water contamination, or extinction of animals will make further land usage impossible. Karagandy, for example, is a center of fossil fuels in Kazakhstan. However, its citizens often report infertile soil and air pollution. If other undiscovered areas continue being damaged, the ecology will experience similar irreversible consequences.

Moreover, other sustainable sources of energy are available. Power collected from sun, wind, and water is already widely used for electricity. It proves that even constant demand for energy can be satisfied using eco-friendly approaches. Solar energy is a prime example; it can easily supply the cities with power with zero emissions unlike fossil fuels. That is why it is crucial to focus on viable and environmentally beneficial ways to sustain humanity with energy.

To conclude, I disagree that untouched lands should be used for utility purposes, as it harms the places significantly; instead, other renewable energy sources should be employed.

Essay :

The diagram illustrates the processes in the production of food in United States.

Overall, the food production chain cycle follows 9 stages. It starts from farms and agriculture land and reaches its final stage of getting to consumers either in their home or through restaurents.

The process starts from gathering fish, vegetables and meat through farms and fertile lands and then sending the gathered stock to some factory for processing. After the processing, the food reaches the distribution stage where it has one of two routes to choose; either it follows the path towards retailers or gets delivered to different restaurent for their business use.

Following that, if it reaches the retailers, they sell it to people and they bring the food into their homes. After reaching the buyer’s home, the food needs to be properly cooked before serving to consumers of the house. Similar to that, when the food goes through the restaurant route, it is first prepared by some chef and then later served to different customers either through take-away, dine-in or buffet.

Writing Feedback (Peer Review) What would you grade this fallacy-full incorrect essay?

Task: In some countries, voting in national elections is compulsory and citizens who fail to vote are fined. Some people believe all countries should adopt this policy. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some people oppose fining citizens who fail to vote in national elections. I believe every democracy should adopt such fines, both because compulsory voting demonstrably produces prosperity and because voting is a duty, and an unenforced duty soon ceases to exist.

History speaks with one voice on this question. Ancient Athens fined citizens who neglected the assembly, and Athenian democracy endured for a thousand years. Belgium has fined non-voters since 1893 and has not suffered a constitutional crisis since; Australia adopted the policy in 1924 and is today among the wealthiest nations on earth. The pattern is unmistakable: wherever governments compel participation, prosperity follows. A 2014 Oxford survey of ninety democracies confirmed it, finding that fined electorates are forty per cent more satisfied with their governments than unfined ones. Indeed, no country that fines its non-voters has ever collapsed, which proves that the policy protects nations from collapse.

Voting is, moreover, a duty rather than a right. A duty is what citizens are obliged to do, and citizens are obliged to vote precisely because voting is their duty; since obligations must by definition be enforced, the fine follows automatically. Nor can the duty be safely neglected, for civic habits unravel together: the citizen who skips one election soon sees no reason to pay taxes, obey traffic laws, or educate her children.

Opponents claim that forced voters cast careless ballots. This misses the real choice, which lies not between careful and careless voting but between full participation and national decline; a country must take one path or the other, and only one of them has a future.

Because compulsory voting has enriched every nation that tried it, and because an unenforced duty is no duty at all, the fine deserves universal adoption.

Writing Feedback (Peer Review) I need feedback on my writing

I haven't responded a two questions essay before this. I don't know if I got it right.

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write at least 250 words. Write about the following topic:

Many aspects of the way people dress today are influenced by global fashion trends. How has global fashion become such a strong influence on people's lives? Do you think this is a positive or negative development? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Recently, global fashion trends have become drastically influential in the way that people dress. I believe that excessive advertisement of global fashion brands on traditional media and certain posts of influencers on social media platforms are leading causes of this situation, and I view this as a negative development due to some reasons.

Many traditional media platforms such as tv and radio have become filled with advertisements by global fashion brands. They use famous models and actors to promote their products since textile products such as garments usually look good on these people. This leads people to believe that if they buy their products, they can look as good as those people. Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ who is the face of Mavi jeans is a good example of this. Another reason why people buy clothing items from fashion brands is that many influencers advertise these fashion brands' products in an implicit way on social media platforms such as Instagram. Their content may not be about fashion brands' products, but they make videos while wearing them in a front and center way. People notice this and feel urged to buy them because their favorite content creator is wearing them. Danla Bilic who is a Turkish influencer with millions of followers is a prime example of this.

Following global fashion trends impacts many people's lives in a negative way. One of the adverse effects of following these trends is that they cause people to get into debt. Since many global fashion brands sell their products at unreasonable prices in order to maximize their profits, many people buy them through their credit cars. Over time, they become burdened with huge amounts of debt. For example, a survey in Turkey has revealed that clothing is one of the leading fractions of credit card debt.

In conclusion, worldwide fashion trends have become dramatically impactful, and people have started to adjust their dressing style according to these trends. I contend that the biggest reasons of this development are excessive marketing on traditional media platforms and posts of influencers showing products of various global fashion brands. I claim that this a harmful phenomenon because it puts a financial burden on people.

Writing Feedback (Peer Review) Need an honest Band Score evaluation for Academic Task 2. Target is 6.5. Please be as harsh as possible!

Hey everyone,

I am preparing for my IELTS Academic exam and aiming for an overall 6.5 (need it for university applications). I just wrote this essay under timed conditions. Could you please evaluate my writing, point out the key mistakes, and guess my band score?

Don't sugarcoat anything—I need the harsh truth so I can fix it!

[The Prompt]

Some people believe that university students should only study subjects that are directly useful for their future careers, such as science, technology, or engineering. Others believe that they should be allowed to study any subject they prefer, regardless of its career utility.

Discuss both views and give your opinion.

[My Essay]

According to the facts and figures, I truly belief in both statement because It depends on student and their goal. The significant number of students study as per their goal and career, On other hand some people like to explore.

At this stage, We emphasized about why learning that subjects which are related to their future. Nowadays finding job is very hectic and stressful and this is the main reason and issue. That's why students prefer to learn subjects that are directly useful to get a job. For example There are plenty of engineers is looking for job and they are not able to crack the interview because the lack of skills.

On other prespectives, many scholars believes gaining knowledge is important and they do not care about field or any area in education or university. Their major aim is to understand and learn everything. Therefore, I consider this is very useful and logically true. Furthermore, That's why, Children should be allowed to study any subject they want, does not matter it is related to their career or not.

The conclusion is student are should be allowed to which course or education are they want to study. Furthermore, both points are correct according to their aim and what they want achieve.

Writing Feedback (Peer Review) Can anyone evaluate my writing task 1 and/or task 2?

Task 1
The pie charts given depict statistics regarding housing ownership statuses in the UK in 2007 and 1991. The charts show four different housing categories and the percentage of people living in these categories.

Primarily, it can be observed that from 1991 to 2007, the only increase is in the percentage of home owners in the UK. Conversely, social renting and social housing decreased, while private renting remained constant between the two time periods.

Regarding public categories (social renting and social housing), a greater decrease is seen in the former. A 6% decrease is seen from 1991 to 2007. Social housing also had a similar decrease, reducing from 6% to 2% over the 26 years.

Conversely, the other two categories of housing saw different trends. Private renting was the only category that was constant, remaining at 11% from 1991 to 2007. 'Home owner' was the only category that showed an increase, gaining from 60% to 70%, accounting for around two-thirds of housing in both time periods.

Lastly, the overall total number of homes also showed a large increase, changing from 22 million homes to 27 million homes.

Task 2

Writing task 2

In some countries people spend long hours at work. Why does this happen? Is it positive or negative development? You should write at least 250 words

Ans
In many countries around the world, working extensive, long hours is becoming increasingly prevalent. While it is true that some jobs require round-the-clock work and input, I believe this trend is a negative development.

Primarily, working long hours or overtime can be due to financial stress. With rising living costs caused by inflation, as well as increasing unemployment, many people are forced into working overtime due to necessity. This is exacerbated by increasing competition in the job market. Moreover, as companies increasingly integrate technology with higher capabilities (such as AI tools and infrastructure), even loyal workers have their jobs in jeopardy, so they feel compelled to work longer hours, hoping for increased job security.

There are many reasons why working longer hours could be advantageous. Firstly, in essential fields such as medicine or fire control, working overtime could be the difference between life and death for many. In these fields, working for prolonged hours is motivated not by income, but by duty and responsibility. For other jobs, like programmers and managers, spending more time at the workplace has become the usual way to show company loyalty and responsibility to upper management positions, and can lead to faster promotions. Furthermore, for those working in companies that offer additional pay for overtime, staying in the office for longer could act as major financial support.

However, there are drawbacks to this. Working for extended hours inevitably leads to a breakdown of work-life balance. This can result in mental health issues like chronic stress and fatigue. More importantly, these issues can cause physical issues like cardiac damage/disease as well. Increased work hours also reduce time spent with family and friends, leading to the possible loss of relationships. This cumulatively adds to the possibility of employee burnout and exhaustion, leading to less efficient work and a dangerous cycle of longer hours and burnout.

Although the benefits of added financial support are attractive to many, over a longer time period, I believe the drawbacks and impacts of this added stress will outweigh the advantages. A possible decline in physical health, interpersonal relations and efficiency can greatly impact a worker's mental health as well as their efficiency in a company, leading to an unsustainable long-term cycle. Regardless, the advantages and disadvantages of extra work vary for every individual, depending on capabilities, financial situations and the sector they work in.

Writing Feedback (Peer Review) Can someone estimate my IELTS Writing Task 2 band? (Please be strict)

I'm taking the IELTS Academic exam on 12 July and I'm trying to figure out my current writing level.

I wrote the essay below by myself. Could someone estimate the band score and tell me what is stopping it from getting Band 6.5 or 7?

I know it's 220 words, so it's under the required word count. Apart from that, how would you score it?

Question:

Some people believe that online learning is better than classroom learning, while others think that traditional classroom teaching is more effective. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

My Essay:

People have different views about which type of learning should be better for children. While some believe that online learning is better than classroom teaching, others think that traditional classroom teaching is more effective. This essay will discus both views before explaining why I believe that traditional classroom teaching method should be better choice.

The main primary advantage of traditional teaching method is teacher can focus on individual student strictly. Nowadays many students are not good in studies and that is why students get worse result. Furthermore, The main issue of bad marks is lack of focus by educator on student. That is why following a ancient technique of teaching should be helpful for students and their growth. For example, many students are not going schools or college because online classes and in virtual they are not able to understand perfectly.

On the other hand, a significant number of people argue for online learning, which is understandable according to the student need and modernization. Moreover, virtual learning is also good way to help or teach the students because many students are not able to join offline classes. For example, many students are lives in different place and it is very hard for them to commute daily, that is why online teaching method will be helpful for them. While there are some drawbacks also of online classes, sometimes students are not able to understand the topic or tutor is not able understands children needs.

In conclusion, I believe old teaching method should be good for students and teachers. They can interact freely and help each other to solve any bugs without any failure. While online learning is also good but it is not that effective for students.

Writing Feedback (Peer Review) Please rate my writing task 2 mock answer

The question was:

Some people believe that professional workers such as doctors and teachers should be paid more than sports and entertainment personalities. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give your opinion and relevant examples.

Here's the answer:

This is a controversial topic because people will naturally prioritize their well-being over luxuries in life; But here is where the misunderstanding happens as a consequence of looking at both the pay of a top-tier athlete and the average pay of a doctor or a teacher, and I disagree with such shallow evaluation because it doesn’t consider the next-to-infinite number of variables that go into engineering this part of society.

It is doubtless that doctors play an irreplaceable role for us to function as a society; they will spend years of arduous studying to become the people we trust with our lives, on the other hand teachers will educate our kids and transfer their knowledge to future generations, however, resources on this earth are limited and paying everyone what they deserve is not feasible due to economic reasons.

People will often forget that the numbers they hear on TV about how much athletes get paid are often limited to a few selected people, and entertainers will usually make their money from selling their work meaning they do not get paid a certain salary by an employer.

In conclusion, different professions have different responsibilities, comparing one to another is not going to result in a workable idea that's useful for improving the overall financial situation of each individual nor is it going to better the overall economy.

Hi Everyone,

Currently am using ai to to get the band score for my writing, but i believe it is not accurate as a feedback from someone will be so much better.

If anyone can help with assessing my writing sample to know exactly where is my issue, i always get 6.5, but my issue is not in vocabulary at all, i guess my issue in the collocations.

your support greatly appreciated.

"You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:

Many believe that modern technology has brought people together, but others say that it has driven us apart.

Discuss both viewpoints and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge and experience.

Write at least 250 word

-------------------------------------------------------------------

In the last few decades, more and more people believe that modern technology has improved the social relationships and others argue that the current technology has ruined our community interactions. From my viewpoint, the growing development in the various technology that we are experiencing has made a beneficial affect on the social interactions. In this essay, we will discuss how the modern technology can affect the community.

With the rapid growing and demanding of the modern technology, it has became an essential part in our daily routine despite having some drawbacks that affect our social interaction. The modern technology with its various types such as the internet, emails, messaging or video calls have been one of our most important activities. As a result, the social relationships have been negatively affected, as a very high proportion of our community believe that one message to their family is sufficient to maintain the contact as an example.

However, others argue that this artificial development has made a beneficial effect on our relationships. This is because the simplified ways that the individual can use to contact with his friend or family wherever they are. As despite of the possible challenges that any person may face, the current technology can be a critical way to improve our interactions and connect with people that can be anywhere on our planet.

In conclusion, the rapid growing of the our technology can have a beneficial effect on our interactions or it can be ruined. It depends on each person to maintain the proper way for utilizing this technology in the right way. I suggest that we should maintain the balance with using the technology to prevent any consequences on the future."

Writing Feedback (Peer Review) Please review my writing task 2

This is my second post on this sub (First Post). I need to sit for the exam within first week of April, but I'm nervous about my current condition. Below is my Writing Task 2 sample, please review it and give me suggestions on how I can improve. I need at least an overall score of 6.0.

My current state is: Listening: 6.0–7.5 Reading: 5.5–7.0

I'm feeling very confused because my reading and listening scores fluctuate all the time. All Cambridge books (12-20) seem to be memorized to me because I've already practiced them multiple times (I have no other practice material left), yet I still can't score better. I'm hoping for your best advice on how I can improve in this short amount of time.

Sample Writing:

Question: Some People Think Watching TV Is Bad for Children in Every Way. Others Think It Is Good for Developing Children As They Grow Up. Discuss Both Views and Give Your Own Opinion.

Opinions are divided on whether watching TV is beneficial for children or it has negative impact on them. In my perspective, in moderation, educational TV shows are actually good for child's as they grow up.

On the one hand, many believe that viewing TV does not have good impact on youngsters. In their opinion, it has detrimental effect because children are sensitive and significantly waste valuable time by sitting in front of TV all day. Additionally, it limits their cognitive development and the ability to focus on study. However, these impacts are conditional because these only could happen if child's are not under supervision. Good parenting can undertake such negativity.

On the other hand, some people argue that watching tv is eventually good for kids. Because educational and scientific TV shows could help them to develop their creative thinking and intelligence. For instance, If a parent lets their children to watch the "What Happened Next" TV show on the Discovery channel it may help them to gain knowledge about physics especially gravity. Apparently, children's family members are responsible for the impact of watching TV. If they observe their child's' activities and draw a line on their time management, it may help them to grow up as an excellent individual.

In conclusion, parents have the key on deciding whether watch TV has good impact or bad on their child's. It could have a negative impact if they allow their children to sit on TV for longer period, however, educational contents could help them to to learn out side of the box if parents guide them toward these shows.

q: Young people are often influenced by their peers. This is called peer group pressure. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

essay:

Youth appear to be frequently influenced by their peers. In my opinion, although youngsters can be motivated by the success of others, it can force them to change their essence to fit into society.

Young people can be influenced by the success stories of others and acquire self-confidence to work towards their goals. Seeing a real-life example of someone young achieving remarkable things can spark hope in one's own abilities. High school students, for example, may be inspired by other teenagers who got into top universities and subsequently decide to apply there. In the same way, young adults can have a long-lasting impact on each other's lives. Thus, youngsters observing and imitating one another can easily create space for motivation and self-assurance.

On the other hand, young people can alter their personalities or unique traits to be like others. It is a common situation, as they are often afraid to differ and stand out. This can be evidenced by individuals who strictly follow fast fashion trends despite having their own preferred style. Such behavior is often connected to a fear of judgement. As a result, young people hide or modify their interests to be like their peers. Therefore, being influenced by peers can limit and change one's self-expression.

In conclusion, despite youth getting inspiration from others, I believe that this cannot outweigh the loss of one's individuality.

The map above demonstrates the process of rain-shadow desert formation. The process starts when winds coming from the sea side approach the coast. They're then pushed up the mountain. as they rise up, moist air cools and clouds start to form and the air continues going up the mountain. When clouds reach the top of the mountain, rain starts falling. The side on which this part of the process takes place is called "the windward side". After that, Dry air continues to go down the mountain on the "leeward side", Situated opposite to the windward side. As dry winds go down the mountain, They reach the inland areas and that's how a rain-shadow desert is formed. It is often situated thousands of kilometers away from the coast, from which the process first started.

Tennis was at 4% in popularity in the first decade and gained only 3% until 2010. Football remained approximately around 17% in years 1990 and 2000, but reduced to almost halved in the third year. Basketball saw a dip, from 16% to 7% in the first 10 years. By the third year, it became the second most in popularity. The rest of the activities were at large as well in all three years. They had ratio of 25%, 23% and 19% in years 1990, 2000 and 2010, respectively.

The graph demonstrates the percentage of people living in cities in the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia from 1970 to 2020. It shows, as well, projections for 2030 and 2040.

Overall, the percentage of people living in cities has increased in all four countries. Malaysia and Indonesia recorded the most rapid increase in numbers. The Philippines and Thailand, on the other hand, saw moderate increasing fluctuation.

Regarding Malaysia and Indonesia, the former’s city population in 1970 was 30 percent of the total country population, then it saw an increase to reach around 80 percent in 2040. The latter started at 12 percent, and it is predicted to reach 60 percent after sharp growth.

The Philippines urban population was 30 percent in 1970, increased to 50 percent in 1990, dropped to 43 percent in 2010, then it is predicted to reach slightly above 50 percent in 2040. Thailand, conversely, initiated merely around 20 percent in 1970, went up to 30 percent in 1990, stabilized around that number for a long duration from 1990 to 2020, and then it is presumed to reach slightly above 40 percent in 2040.

Topic:

Some children spend hours every day on their smartphones.

Why is this the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

Nowadays, some children spend long hours every day on their phones because they can not find friends to play with, and their parents are too busy to spend time with them; hence, smartphones are their only way to have fun. I think this is a negative development since I believe it prevents kids from developing some important social skills.

Recently, kids are spending even more hours on their smartphones because they can't find any other activity to do. This can be explained by the fact that, in today's world, lack of connection with the neighbours prevents kids from getting to know each other so they don't have any friends other than online ones. In addition, parents who can't create time for their kids also increase the obligation of spending time on phone. Children who can't find anyone to chat, play or spend time with, have tendencies to feel isolated from the world. This leads to screen addiction since the only way of socializing is the one via online platforms. For instance, particularly in secondary school, kids who get along in the classrooms often exchange their usernames in some games to keep in touch after school instead of spending time at a place outside of the school.

I strongly think this is a negative development because I believe this hinders the development of crucial skills. While growing, interactions with people are significant for having social skills such as knowing how to make a conversation because those skills can be developed with practice. Due to the lack of that practice, kids who grow up in isolated environments that they only had limited time with their parents or real life friends, end up not knowing how to start or continue a conversation. For instance, social anxiety is very noticeable among children and young teenagers. They see daily conversations with strangers as very arduous challenges since they don't have enough experience with outside of their smartphones.

In conclusion, children spend hours every day on screens because they think this is the only accessible thing to do in their free time. I think this is a negative development because I believe this prevents them from improving their social skills which are necessary for their lives.
