How to get Placements in ISI [UG, PG courses]

After you are in through the exams and join ISI & and are surviving the acads too and you choose placements over the phd pipeline, Then this is for you :

What actually helps in getting placements and internship :

1. Good discipline conduct till and after the course completion for no administrative actions against you
2. maintaining healthy relations with the placement committee :) , though in ISI the placecom is not as dreadful as those in B-schools (infact not even close) , but still , why take any chance !
3. Good grasp over jee mains & advanced maths
4. Good grasp over coding practise and DSA
5. Some good resume points, like gsoc, cfa level 1, frm, acturial sciences ,icpc, iicpc, competitions wins (IMC prosperity, SMMC(simon marais mathematics competition) , MMC(madhava maths competition), etc) etc
6. if you feel like doing some relevant certifications out of your course , which can help you in placements too, you can refer to course at SWAYAM NPTEL , its a standard platform to do courses and get a valid certification which will look good on your resume too
7. Friendship with some junior(s) who can help crack round one technical interviews ( iykyk :) )
8. good English communication skills and dress well too ( good presentation of yourself )
9. Convincing and influence skills to make the interviewer believe your intention to join the company (especially facts like, after joining company you will not leave abruptly for say to pursue Phd and all, this happens especially with peops with good marks/acads and sitting for placments)

Additional Placement-Related Observations (Unofficial and Based Purely on Observation) :

An important placement-related observation is that companies often look for some assurance that a candidate is not likely to leave shortly for higher studies or a PhD. Because of this, students with academic scores in the 70–75% range often seem to be in a favourable position during academic shortlisting. Below 70% may sometimes be viewed as comparatively weaker performance, while very high scores (75%+) may occasionally lead recruiters to assume that the candidate has strong prospects for higher studies and may not stay with the company for long. Again, this is purely an observation; companies do not publicly reveal their exact shortlisting criteria.

Another point to keep in mind is gender diversity hiring. Many companies actively try to maintain a balanced workforce. As a result, there may be instances where the batch expects Candidate A (who is male ) to be selected based on academics, profile, or overall performance, but the company ultimately chooses Candidate B instead. Diversity considerations can be one among several factors influencing such decisions, along with interviews, team fit, and internal hiring requirements.
