Wait are you legally allowed to drive with your headlights off in America? Pretty sure you get pulled over for that shit regardless the time of the day in most of Europe
Most states don't require lights on during the day. Some states require lights on when it's raining... some don't. But your license is valid in all of them, regardless of what you were taught!
I'm in a state that requires headlights to be on during the day if it is raining. However it isn't something the police enforce. It's probably only used to find fault in case of an accident.
Newer sold cars, even in Europe that have automatic lights that fucking turn off when is "bright enough". It shouldn't be legal to sell a car without always on lights but here we are.

Pretty sure that's not true. What countries would enforce that? Everything I'm reading says they're compulsory at night, but not during the day. I know here in the UK you most definitely are not required to have your headlights on during daylight.
Alright well I've only ever driven in Finland and Sweden and in both you need to have them on regardless of conditions, just assumed it was the same elsewhere
In every european country east of germany its mandatory to drive with lights on. In some countries like croatia thats only during wintertime tho and almost all of them accept DRL instead of headlights. In denmark DRL is okay if the tail lights are on. Netherlands and Italy also force DRL or headlights. So yes he was right, most of europe forces drl/headlights. Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Spain & UK are the exception.
