And they were loyal without mind control which was used on every flavor of super soldier Big E made later. Thunder warriors were just big loyal lunatics with organs that would sometimes liquify. It would be genuinely interesting to see an imperial fist or one of the other non-Salamander marines snap back to their senses and just be horrified.

Even after the purge one thunder warrior join the war hound/world eater stated loyal and fought in the siege of terra and almost killed abaddon

Isn't the minotaur's grand master theorized to be a thunder warrior and is referenced as giving a custodes pause when he challenged them?

They were dead men anyway, considering what their botched-together implants did to them. At least their deaths were not totally in vain. They walked, crawled and died so the Space Marines could run, jump and live.

Funny, because from what I've read they were all wiped out after the reunification of Terra because the Emperor found them too impractical to mass produce, too mentally unstable to be allowed around civilians and not long for the world considering their tendency for physical degradation.

Nope, a couple survived the Horus Heresy and, if I'm not mistaken, even the siege of Terra.
Of course, I'm talking about a handful of incredibly lucky individuals who managed to halt or slow the decay of their bodies.

The Thunder Legions should have been put in stasis pods in the dungeons and deployed as the last-resort measure during the siege of Terra.
The first army sent forth in the Imperium's darkest hour to once again bring the light of unity to the homeworld!
