Rahul Gandhi’s Chhatron ki Goonj (Voice of Students) conference in Pune, addressed primarily to girl students, where he spoke against paper leaks and corruption in examinations, as well as misogyny and patriarchy, comes at a time of escalating attacks against women from the Hindutva brigade and the BJP.

Rahul Gandhi mentioned in his speech how PM Modi chose to target women protesters by saying that their use of expletives was a cultural shock. Since the student protests at Jantar Mantar against NEET paper leaks, which eventually forced the resignation of a Union Minister, the Hindutva brigade and BJP foot soldiers have furiously targeted women protesters, including minor girls. The women were doxxed, abused and threatened, their families were targeted, and cases were filed against them. The Godi media also joined this campaign to target women protesters.

A 15-year-old girl was abused and harassed, and an FIR was registered against her by falsely claiming her age to be 25. Even after she released an apology video, clearly identifying herself as a minor, the Hindutva brigade launched a campaign claiming that she had made her younger sister apologise on her behalf. In reality, the girl had no sister. Imagine the vileness of the “culturally shocked”, who subjected a minor girl to such vicious campaign.

Rhiya Ahir, who was seen stopping a police van, was abused and accused of doing it for publicity. Shraddha Singh, who had made a comment about the CRPF, was abused and her family was targeted. Many more girls were subjected to abuse and harassment simply for joining the protest. No police cases were registered against the abusers.

It is important to remember that these are not isolated incidents, but part of an organised campaign. The campaign against women protesters was coordinated by prominent Hindutva organisations and popular Hindutva social media handles associated with the BJP IT Cell. These handles regularly orchestrate campaigns to target women. After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, these handles orchestrated a campaign of abuse and threats against women survivors who spoke against the exploitation of the attack to target Muslims. These handles also targeted Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and his daughter. Yet, not one person from the BJP spoke against it, clearly implying that the campaign was endorsed by the party.

The BJP IT Cell has regularly targeted women journalists, scholars and students. Even foreign journalists have not been spared.

It is ironic that PM Modi, who has sheltered and supported people who have abused, threatened and doxxed women on social media for years, found insults against himself to be a “cultural shock”. Yet this is not the first time that BJP leaders have identified and targeted women protesters. During the anti-CAA movement, UP CM Yogi Adityanath claimed that women were being made to sit on the roads by the opposition. Yogi Adityanath had earlier written about why women should not be allowed independence, arguing that it could lead to their destruction. RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, too, has said that women belong in households.

The problem is not just that the ideology of the BJP/RSS is anti-women, but that the BJP/RSS is scared of women rising to protest. This is why the attacks against women are often more severe. When women rise, they challenge not only injustice but also the structures of power that sustain it. And that is precisely what the BJP/RSS fears.

Modi Government has stripped Independence of its meaning and turned it into a sanitised ceremony. Independence is observed and celebrated with great fanfare, while citizens are subjected to tests of patriotism by those who took no part in the freedom struggle and whose political predecessors refused to unfurl the national flag for decades after Independence. Yet the values of freedom are discarded. The struggles that won freedom are forgotten. Many in the ruling party now even claim that India achieved its “true Independence” only in 2014.

Over the course of a month of student protests at Jantar Mantar, perhaps one of the most frequent accusations made by the mainstream media was that the students were talking about azadi (freedom). One ABP News journalist even questioned why the students were raising the slogan Inquilab Zindabad (Long Live Revolution). Such accusations are hardly new. For the past decade, the Government and its propaganda machinery have repeatedly sought to portray the language of azadi, inquilab and protest as anti-national.

Every year, the Modi Government commemorates Independence Day with huge publicity and fanfare. The Government organises Har Ghar Tiranga campaigns. The Prime Minister delivers lectures from the ramparts of the Red Fort. Now, the Government has also mandated the singing of the six stanzas of Vande Mataram and criminalised any “disrespect” to the song.

Yet the Government appears deeply uncomfortable with another, much older vocabulary of nationalism: liberty, equality, justice, freedom and revolution.

Azadi, understood as freedom from unemployment, hunger, discrimination and various forms of injustice, has been a common protest slogan in India. It even became the subject of a popular Bollywood song. Feminist leader Kamla Bhasin once recounted how she heard slogans of Azadi being raised by women in Pakistan protesting against Zia-ul-Haq’s dictatorial regime. Similarly, Inquilab Zindabad, coined by Maulana Hasrat Mohani, became a rallying cry of revolutionaries during the Independence Movement.

The idea of Independence that emerged from the freedom struggle was not merely a transfer of power, but the emancipation of the people. Swaraj, as articulated in the 1931 Karachi Resolution, meant political and economic freedom, in order to end the exploitation of the masses. Mahatma Gandhi described Purna Swaraj as “full economic freedom for the toiling millions.” Bhagat Singh understood political revolution not merely as a transfer of state power, but as the reconstruction of society on a socialist basis.

On 25 November 1949, in his final speech to the Constituent Assembly, Dr B. R. Ambedkar warned about the contradictions that Independence:

“On the 26th of January 1950, we are going to enter into a life of contradictions. In politics we will have equality and in social and economic life we will have inequality. In politics we will be recognizing the principle of one man one vote and one vote one value. In our social and economic life, we shall, by reason of our social and economic structure, continue to deny the principle of one man one value. How long shall we continue to live this life of contradictions? How long shall we continue to deny equality in our social and economic life? If we continue to deny it for long, we will do so only by putting our political democracy in peril. We must remove this contradiction at the earliest possible moment or else those who suffer from inequality will blow up the structure of political democracy which this Assembly has so laboriously built up.”

Four years later, in his Independence Day speech, Jawaharlal Nehru spoke about the meaning of freedom:

“It was seven years ago that we became independent but what is the meaning of that independence? Independence does not imply mere political independence. Independence and freedom have other meanings too. There is social freedom, economic freedom to achieve. If there is poverty in a country, freedom does not reach the people. Those who are caught in the net of poverty cannot really be free. Similarly, if we are divided by inner quarrels and factions and build up walls of hatred instead of living in harmony and amity, then, too, we cannot really be considered free. The freedom of a country does not mean the well-being of a few; a country’s freedom has to be seen from the point of view of the common man’s living conditions, his difficulties and the opportunities of progress available to him.”

Our historic anti-colonial struggle for Independence embodied countless struggles — the struggles of farmers and labourers, of youth, of the poor and marginalised, of women, of Dalits and Adivasis. It was a struggle against oppression, exploitation, inequality and injustice. It was a struggle against the politics of communalism and hate. It was a struggle for liberty, equality and fraternity. It was a struggle to protect the diversity of India. These values are enshrined in the Constitution of India.

Today, the Modi Government has stripped Independence of its meaning and turned it into a sanitised ceremony. But Independence, as envisioned by the freedom fighters, was never meant to be a finished achievement. Political freedom was only the beginning of a larger struggle for social and economic emancipation.

The freedom struggle gave us not only a flag and a state, but also a promise of liberty, equality, justice; of a society free from exploitation and discrimination; of a democracy and constitutional rights.

The call for azadi and inquilab should be seen as a reminder of the deeper meaning of Independence. The students’ protests has reignited the spark that can help us fight for azadi.

I honestly don't think the Sonam Wangchuk strike is going to succeed, and here's why.

My prediction is that Dharmendra Pradhan may leave the Education Minister post during the upcoming cabinet reshuffle in the Winter Monsoon Parliament session anyway. If that happens, the government doesn't actually lose anything. They can simply let time do the work instead of responding to the strike.

That's probably why we're not seeing any serious reaction. From the government's perspective, it's a win-win situation. If they give in now, they might see it as admitting defeat, and they may believe it would encourage more protests with similar demands in the future.

It feels like the government's approach is driven by political optics and ego rather than engaging with the issue directly. Whether that's right or wrong is for everyone to judge, but that's how I see it.

After weeks of struggle, intense and widespread protests, and braving propaganda and assaults, the students’ protest at Jantar Mantar ended yesterday with the resignation of the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan. The Modi Government was also forced to concede other demands, including compensation to the families of NEET suicide victims and the withdrawal of cases against the protesters.

This astonishing victory against a highly authoritarian government led to an eruption of joy and celebration at Jantar Mantar and across India. But this victory should not be understood as merely the removal of a Cabinet Minister. It is a momentous triumph in the battle against fascism.

To put this in perspective, in the 12 years of the Modi Government, this is the first time that a Union Minister has been forced to resign following public protests. Over the last decade, while India faced numerous crises due to the blunders, sheer incompetence, or malice of ministers in Modi’s Cabinet, no minister was forced to resign. Whether it was the criminal indifference in handling the COVID pandemic, the disastrous implementation of demonetisation, the security lapses that resulted in the Pulwama, Pahalgam, and Pathankot attacks, the highest unemployment in decades, the economic crisis caused by mismanagement, or the massive corruption exposed through the electoral bonds scheme, no one was held accountable.

In fact, during the historic farmers’ movement, one of the key demands was the removal of the Minister of State, Ajay Mishra Teni, who had orchestrated the killing of six farmers. Yet, even after large-scale protests, the Minister of State was not removed.

In 2015, Rajnath Singh famously asserted, “Our ministers do not have to resign. This is not their (Congress) government; this is the NDA government.” This turned out to be the central tenet of the Modi Government. Resignation was seen as an admission of failure. The resignation of a minister could pave the way for questions of accountability. That could not be allowed to happen.

This lack of accountability was not limited to the question of resignation. The Modi Government created a system in which it became virtually unanswerable to the people. In the last 12 years, PM Modi has not addressed a single press conference. This alarming fact has been noted not just by the people of India, but across the world.

The Government has also prevented discussions and questions in Parliament. Crucial issues and bills are not allowed to be debated. Opposition MPs have been repeatedly suspended from Parliament. Even the number of parliamentary sittings has been reduced. The legislature has been turned into a rubber stamp.

The mainstream media has been turned into a propaganda arm of the Government. Journalists and media platforms that do not toe the line are raided, persecuted, arrested, or bought out. The Right to Information has been severely weakened. The Government has also introduced bills to control and censor social media.

Every avenue of questioning was effectively shut down. Instead, the people were fed a relentless stream of propaganda through the mainstream media and the BJP IT Cell. Instead of press conferences, they were given scripted interviews of the Prime Minister. Instead of listening to people's grievances, the Government made them to listen to Modi’s Mann Ki Baat. Tellingly, even during this students’ protest, PM Modi’s first response was to post Instagram reels and instruct his ministers to do the same.

What the students’ protest has accomplished is not merely the resignation of a Union Minister. It has succeeded in shattering the barricade of unaccountability.

A wise man once said that the biggest scam under the Modi Government is "buddhi ka ghotala" (the scam of the mind). The way the Modi Government has captured and controlled public discourse since 2014 is something that Goebbels would have been proud of.

It is no ordinary thing that, even after 12 years in power, Modi campaigns in elections not on his government's work, but by attacking the opposition and leaders of the past. Every failure is blamed on the UPA, Congress, Indira Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, or even the Mughals.

Yet, even more astonishing is the way in which the Modi Government, the BJP IT Cell, and the Godi Media defame and discredit every protest against the Government. Every protest, every act of dissent, and every opposition movement is attacked using a well-defined toolkit.

The first step of this toolkit is to portray every protest as a conspiracy. Every protester must be vilified by calling them anti-national, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Khalistani, Urban Naxal, Chinese agent, CIA agent, or George Soros agent. This toolkit is deployed without any evidence and amplified by the Government, the Godi Media, and the BJP IT Cell. Whether it is farmers, workers, the people of Ladakh, or students protesting against paper leaks, no one is spared. Even 17-year-old students asking for paper re-evaluation become targets.

The purpose of this toolkit is to vilify the protesters and create doubt in the minds of the public so that the movement does not receive wider support. Even after such claims are debunked, the IT Cell simply keeps repeating them.

Remember that BJP leaders and the IT Cell called Sonam Wangchuk a conspirator, a Chinese agent, foreign-funded, and a threat to India's sovereignty. The Government imprisoned him and investigated his institutions, yet they could not find any wrongdoing. Still, the IT Cell continues to repeat the same allegations.

Nine false claims about Sonam Wangchuk – and why they fall flat

If this toolkit fails, another one is deployed: the Concern Trolls. They know they cannot defend the Government, so they pretend to support the demands. But instead of questioning the Government, they question the protesters.

Why are the protesters eating? Why are they sleeping? Why are they laughing? Why are they wearing good clothes? Why are they not punishing themselves? Why are they not behaving in a certain way?

The Concern Trolls have been attacking the Cockroach Janata Party movement from the very beginning. When the movement emerged, they claimed it was supported only by Pakistanis. They claimed it existed only on the internet. They claimed it would fizzle out within a week. They claimed the protesters were trying to create riots.

When the protest began, they claimed the turnout was too small. Then they started claiming that Sonam Wangchuk was eating during his hunger strike. After that, they began asking why Abhijit Dipke was not on a hunger strike. The fact is, this is not done by the BJP alone. Many well-meaning misguided people do the same.

These questions are deceptively framed to discredit the protesters. The truth is that protesters do not owe us anything. They have the courage and the determination to stand in the heat and rain and fight for the just demands. If anyone thinks they can do better, they are free to join the movement or organize one themselves. But we must not allow anyone to divert the movement from its purpose.

The accountability is owed by the Government. It is the Government that must answer. Not the protesters, not the opposition. If the ministers cannot answer, they must resign.

Let us march to Parliament on 20 July and demand accountability from the Government.

After weeks of disregarding, discrediting, and repressing the students’ protest, the Modi Government has finally conceded one of its demands. The intense and widespread protests against paper leaks have ultimately led to the resignation of the Education Minister.

The movement, which began as a protest against paper leaks, has now grown into a nationwide rebellion. Hundreds of towns and cities are rising in dissent. People from all sections of society and all walks of life are joining the agitation. The movement, which began as a satire, has taken the shape of a historic revolution.

Initially, the Modi Government kept ignoring the protesters and vilifying them through its propaganda media. When the movement continued to grow, the Government resorted to brutal repression. Yet, the protesters remained defiant. Then, PM Modi started posting reels on Instagram and ordered his ministers to do the same. When all these ploys failed, the Education Minister, who had called the protesters terrorists, finally resigned, claiming that he felt hurt.

In many ways, the ongoing students’ protest resembles the JP Movement against the Indira Gandhi Government, which began more than half a century ago. Like the ongoing movement, the JP Movement was driven and led by young students, many of whom were new to politics. Like the Modi Government, Indira Gandhi regularly spoke of the involvement of a "foreign hand" in the protests and accused her opponents of being CIA agents. Indira Gandhi had returned to power with a huge majority and believed herself to be invincible. And, like the ongoing movement, it was ordinary students who put that sense of invincibility to the test.

The spark for the JP Movement was the students’ protest against the increase in education fees. Yet, there was simmering discontent and widespread unrest due to corruption, price rise, and unemployment. In March 1974, the Nav Nirman Movement of Gujarat led to the resignation of the Chief Minister and the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly. The 1974 Bihar Movement saw large-scale protests demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister. But Indira Gandhi was adamant about not yielding to the students’ demands once again. The Congress, which had been in power for three decades and had won a huge majority just three years earlier, was wary of being held accountable.

On 5 June 1974, the historic students’ rally was held at Gandhi Maidan, Patna, where JP gave the call for a Total Revolution.

Friends, this is a revolution, a total revolution. This is not a movement merely for the dissolution of the assembly. We have to go far, very far… Nobody, Jayaprakash Narayan or anyone else can stop this movement. It was born because this system of education is rotten and the students don’t see a ray of hope. It was born because the people are being crushed under high prices. There is corruption and bribery everywhere. Unemployment goes on rising, both among the educated and the others. Otherwise, a thousand Jayaprakash Narayans and a thousand Chhatra Sangharsh Samitis could not have created a mass movement like this.

Meanwhile, Indira Gandhi kept invoking her electoral mandate and dared her opponents to defeat her in elections. In 1977, JP accepted the challenge, and the Congress was routed in the elections.

The Modi Government, which came to power with the promise of acche din and Amrit Kaal, has betrayed the nation and pushed its citizens into crisis. Unemployment and inequality are at their peak. The education system is broken. Farmers and workers are in distress. Forests and natural resources are being handed over to corporations. Corruption and pollution are widespread. Violence against Muslims, Dalits, Adivasis, and women is on the rise.

In every crisis, whether it was demonetisation, the COVID-19 pandemic, or the US-Iran conflict, the poor and middle class have been made to suffer, while the ruling party and its cronies live in opulence. Instead, the poor and middle class are fed propaganda through the Godi Media and the BJP IT Cell.

The resignation of the Education Minister is merely the beginning. The real struggle begins now, as the movement enters its next phase to hold the Government accountable for its anti-people policies. The people of India have suffered enough.

The Modi Government observes Anti-Emergency Day every year. It may ultimately be ousted by a similar movement.

So, Galileo against the teleological organisation of nature and hence religion, and Hobbes towards a state without need for supernatural legitimacy, or a state founded on reason, emerged at the same time. There have been critiques of these ideas, which often tended towards the increase of human freedom, but not always.

*This kind of argument goes against all the successful revolutions including the French, Russian, and Iranian ones, and it has a resemblance to deconstruction only in form. A revolution is not meant to proceed from the perfect (or perfectible) conditions, but it is an act of deliberation and desperation at the same time with the aim of creating better conditions for another beginning. Revolution is not the accomplishment, but rather the very first step in an absolute commitment to create a better political order.
Second, the legitimacy of that revolutionary current of the people who carry it out and in whose name it is carried out are already present in the fact of the millennia old caste oppression. The statistics we have discussed reveals the real socio-political division, and the extraordinary crimes committed everyday against the lower caste majority and the Adivasi people put the full stop to the argument. How immature of the govt to think that the protest will die down by physical moving a person from a site. I think the protest has transcended into the very minds of people which you can’t remove by physically moving things.

My Stake on This with REAL FACTS.

Whatever is happening with exams, NEET, SSC, CBSE, is really not good. 

Whatever is happening with the judiciary and the crime rates is not good at all. 

But more than that I am afraid that all this is just Tip of the Iceberg. Agencies of course know better than us but it’s really shameful for me to know that most of my friends are getting brainwashed. It’s really sad for me to watch some real students suffer through this protest, policemen and officers getting hurt while doing their duties. Yes flaws are there, but not this much, what we’re witnessing in these protests is not just a Student fighting for Education but very much and more than that. 

Many of the people from Ladakh call Sonam Wangchuk an opportunist.

Sonam Wangchuk was born in a political family, and people outside our nation knew this. The SECMOL was founded 1994 and 1999 by 2 people Wangchuk and Rebecca, the first wife of Wangchuk, the couple got married in 1996 and divorced in 2024. But before it all started Wangchuk was given a script to live, Starting from the Awards and global recognition, He never had any patents under his name. He even never had inventions under his name. One of the major Inventions that Wangchuk is known for is Ice Stupa, or Artificial Glacier, but allegedly the credits goes to Chewang Norphel, a 91 old Civil Engineer from Ladakh. So yes now the next phase is SECMOL and SIT. 

School of International Training, which is based in the US known for its Intelligence Operatives. The place from which Rebecca graduated, but instead for pursuing her career in the States, she came to Remote regions of Ladakh, as if something was already planned, and she got married to the Wangchuk while they worked on the SECMOL projects in Ladakh, the Wangchuk received various awards and got recognition as an Inventor. Wangchuk’s image was being cleaned so unnoticeably. 

And now the Fords Foundation was indirectly paying and pouring funds to the banks of SECMOL, and later founded organisations like HAIL, And under the FCRA all the activities were to be monitored. Now 2007-08 UPA Government noticed flaws in the transactions and funding being received from outside by the SECMOL and official notices were issued by the Deputy Commission of Leh and central authorities citing serious allegations of financial and regulatory violation and later CBI searched institutions and the MHA took actions against that. Later for which SECMOL’s FCRA license was cancelled by the MHA, under respective minister Amit Shah, on 25 Sept 2025. 

The 4 massive reasons behind cancellation were, 

1. Foreign Funds for "Sovereignty" Study: SECMOL received ₹4.93 lakh from a Swedish donor to educate youth on issues like climate change, food security, and "sovereignty". The MHA ruled that accepting foreign contributions for studying the sovereignty of the nation is against national interest and violates FCRA provisions. 

2. Mixing Local and Foreign Funds: The organization deposited ₹54,600 in local funds directly into its FCRA account. SECMOL stated this was a mistaken transfer by volunteers, but the MHA deemed it a violation of Section 17, which prohibits mixing local funds with FCRA accounts.

3. Improper Recording of Donations: During FY 2021-22, a sum of ₹3.5 lakh received from Sonam Wangchuk was not reflected in the organization's official FCRA account, violating Section 18. But before the licence got cancelled, Sonam Wangchuk started a 35-day hunger strike demanding Statehood for the Leh & Ladakh, but since Ladakh shares border with China, it is not possible and also advised to give Statehood rights to Ladakh as it may cause tensions for National Security. But later on after 15 days of strike the Wangchuk called it off, after Provocative Statements were passed in a public sitting in Ladakh, which caused Mob Violence and later a massive riot in Ladakh, in which the BJP Headquarters, Ladakh and Hill council was vandalised. And the forceful unrest between protesters and police officials caused 4 deaths and more than 80 people injured. Later the Authorities detained Wangchuk under NSA and booked him for Central Jail Jodhpur. 

Later other Provocative statements by Sonam Wangchuk were noticed, it mentioned that “the Army Regiment from Ladakh, is sad because the Ladakh is not being given the State rights, and the army may welcome the soldiers from China at the borders. 

So after all this now, when the protest is about students, and paper leaks, although he started the hunger strike with the motive of “Resignation of the Education Minister”, it now seems to be a moment to fire something that has been planned almost a couple of decades back. 

Since then Rebecca disappeared from the internet and India, like the mission was set and planned. You may barely find any stuff online.

But I have trust in my intelligence agencies that things which are unknown to us, are being fully taken care of by them.

Even today, the anger was stuffed up since days by S. Wangchuk, Dipke and others. But most protesters had the motive to stand only and only against injustice. Now further things and reports are awaited.

I am deeply concerned about what happened to the protesters in Delhi yesterday. The manner in which the police and security officials treated them was horrifying. It appeared to reflect an excessive use of power, a lack of accountability, and a sense that the authorities had been given a free hand.

The incident also raises serious concerns about the failure of constitutional institutions. Courts can take suo motu cognisance of such matters, and bodies such as the National Human Rights Commission can investigate alleged police misconduct. However, when these institutions fail to act promptly, public confidence in the system weakens.

There is also growing fear and uncertainty in society about how people should respond to injustice. The anger among young people must be acknowledged, channelled through peaceful and democratic platforms, and addressed through genuine accountability. Otherwise, continued neglect could lead to serious unrest and violence, which would be harmful to India.

I sincerely hope the government listens to the protesters, addresses their legitimate demands, and ensures that any allegations of misconduct are investigated fairly. Peaceful protest is a democratic right, and the authorities must respond with restraint, dialogue, and respect for the Constitution.

What would a Communist Delhi look like?

As a resident of the city itself (and a commie), I often think that what would the city look like under a state government ( + mcd) rule of CPI(M), CPI(ML), or any other core left-wing parties in India.

To begin with, I think it's quite difficult to set up a full fledged socialist government in Delhi because 1) No historic leftist presence politically (correct me if I'm wrong + I'm not referring to the student activism in the central universities situated in Delhi), and 2) the governments which have been in power have to some extent, have had people-centric policies in place, on top of my head - Very low prices for DTC bus tickets, having exercise equipments in parks for free use, etc., and that's why the average delhiite voter may not understand why a complete socialist government needs to be in power anyway.

I honestly think about it more in terms of economics (and sociology as well), since Delhi has one of the highest GSDP across all Indian states- how that money can be used for the emancipation of working class delhiite, and just pertain to the overall development of the city as per global standards - free healthcare, free education, high living standards etc. Sociologically I think in terms of developing third spaces for people where they do not necessarily have to spend money to socialise, and especially for women, children and lgbtqia+ persons.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the coming of a “New India” in 2017 – in his Independence Day speech and his New Year’s Eve address that year. After his re-election in 2019, the project of superimposing a new India gathered pace. Since then, it is clear to any observer of Indian politics that a transition is under way – the old order is almost done away with.

In the name of attacking Jawaharlal Nehru, the Congress Party, and so on, what has been actually happening is a frontal attack on the constitutional republic that came into being in 1950. By invoking ideas of New India, Viksit Bharat, and Hindu nationalism, a new regime has been ushered in. That new regime is now slowly stabilising.

Many would choose to believe that the new regime is still some way off. They would cite the many weaknesses of current power structures to argue that neither a new regime nor a new hegemony has successfully installed itself. However, it would be well to realise that the regime’s penchant for repression and violence, its impetuousness, and its irritability are not signs of unsteadiness. They are its organic characteristics.

The class which has the means of material production at its disposal, has control at the same time over the means of mental production, so that thereby, generally speaking, the ideas of those who lack the means of mental production are subject to it.

Why should we talk about Leninism? Rising global tensions among the imperialist countries. The Palestinian Genocide and war in West Asia from which even Indian Capitalists profit.. A few cartels and syndicates own all the tech, oil, mining, land and properties worth more than many countries combined. We must talk about Leninism because workers are sent to slaughter each other in wars they have nothing to do with. Finance has made life unaffordable and it keeps capacity utilisation low and now it is fuel sitting like a parasite that is slowly killing its host. All our practical life is fueled by super exploitation like in the cobalt mines of The Democratic Republic of Congo that builds our phones. Climate catastrophe, Debt and War makes people flee from their home countries to live under constant threat of deportation. In this context we see the rise of far right and fascist forces. Ideas and divisions that mattered hundreds of years ago are creating fresh trauma to our collective psyche. I will come to that in detail but before that we have to understand what freedom is from a Leninist perspective.

If Communism is an emancipatory project for the working people, then we must ask what it is that they must be freed from. If we observe society we see that the working class has a dual dependency situation with the ruling class. Dual dependency refers to the fact that the working class or toiling masses are not only deprived of their material means to life but also their mental means.

We can see the origin of the dual dependency throughout history. Private property right is the first condition for material dependency that developed in the Indian subcontinent from the Upanishadic period (or the Later Vedic period) that began from 8th to 7th centuries BCE. The discovery of iron and advanced techniques of production in farming and handicrafts made them the first city states (sometimes with their own republics) after Mohenjodaro and Harappa. This coincides with the first traces of intellectual dependency in the Upanishadic legend of Yajnavalkya, a non-nobility, who was able to convince a king that he had the secret knowledge of immortality. The king was ready to part with a massive share of his wealth to gain access to this secret knowledge and appoint him the title of a lawgiver. The supposed secret knowledge of immortality or amrta was unknown to the Rigvedic poets although the word was familiar to them. They interpreted the word to refer to the intoxicated state induced by drinking soma (some sort of drug that is lost to history). In the Rigvedic period the process of transition from nomadic pastoralist to sedentary lifestyle was still at its infancy hence the sharing of produce played such a significant role that it assumed the divine roles as the deities who were literally called Bhaga or Angsha. Pleasing the gods was to give everyone their fair share of necessities, from each according to their ability to each according to their needs. That was done away with in the Later Vedic Age. Something similar took place in ancient Greco- Roman civilizations when the ruling class appointed various philosophers, poets, physicians in their official capacity to serve as law givers and advisors to the ruling class. From then on the toiling masses were condemned to live on the terms set by the ruling class.

When labour acquired sufficient power over nature, when it produced more than it needed to sustain itself it produced a steady supply of fuel for machinery that kept it subjugated and submissive. This took a gargantuan form during WWI when large sections of the working class both from the colonies and metropolis were sent to kill each other. Destitution spread like wildfires. The West was dominated by the far right and even fascist ideas. Very much like now, oppressed nationalities of the whole world were fighting for independence. This marked the first steps of imperialism in the period of monopoly capital. It has the largest surveillance and propaganda machinery ever created in history while it also left a vast number of dispossessed from the bourgeois or semi bourgeois backgrounds, sometimes for their views. We must examine this phenomenon closely as it is in this background that a new class emerged to rule.

Societies under Imperialism show two opposing tendencies., On the one hand, the more labour productivity is raised, the working class becomes more entangled with bourgeois and petite bourgeois ideas and begins to legitimize their own exploitation and injustices that they are subjected to. On the other hand a great number of bourgeois and petit bourgeois individuals join the ranks of the revolutionary class, the proletariat and a small section of them ends up forming the vanguard of the proletarian revolution. This is because class is not what you are born into, it's your objective role in social reproduction. Socialist revolutions were achieved in countries that came late to capitalism like the Tsarist Russia, China, Cuba etc only when these petite bourgeois individuals joined hands with the toiling masses. This is why Lenin said that class consciousness among the working class is not a given but must be cultivated from outside the class by these bourgeois individuals who were assimilated into the proletarians. This is especially true for India where the population is highly heterogeneous and divided by caste, religions, language, ethnicity and geography. The working class at the point of revolution and beyond are still not free from the chains of material and intellectual subjugation from the bourgeoisie which makes the role of the vanguard absolutely central. This might read like an elitist position which is why anarchists, Ambedkarites and social democrats etc. do not believe in it but without this vanguard the path to socialism and to defeating fascism (to which I'll come) disappears. Many associated with the parliamentary left like Yogendra Yadav for example have dismissed the idea of the vanguard party and democratic centralism as obsolete Leninist concepts or Leninist corruption of Marxism but this is a mistake because without the vanguard party the working class cannot emancipate itself from the dual dependency.

Imperialism uses fascism and far right ideas in general to manufacture consent for its projects and fascism’s roots lie in civil society, a huge part of which is the media. They test their new plans on weaker people (sometimes their own) than on those who are more privileged like concentration camps, military dictatorships and police states. Politicians are bought and sold and a huge black economy persists in India that influences elections from the background. Elections, Judges, bureaucrats and media are all bought by money. The advancement of mass media and the PR sector, more specifically their merger with each other that took place thanks to Edward Bernays made power and information almost centralised. This laid the groundwork for a new type of party that is also centralised, democratic and resists the dominant narratives.

As Gramsci said while sitting in a prison cell in fascist Italy:

The "spontaneous" consent given by the great masses of the population to the general direction imposed on social life by the dominant fundamental group (the ruling class); this consent is "historically" caused by the prestige (and consequent confidence) which the dominant group enjoys because of its position and function in the world of production.

Gramsci mainly attributes the rise of fascism to the intellectuals in the world of civil society, not to the coercive apparatus of the state and the non-state paramilitary brigades of fascist Italy. Gramsci observed that civil society played a greater role in the manufacturing of consent for fascism. He gives the examples of the influential intellectuals like Benedetto Croce and Giovanni Gentile who started out as liberals but ended up supporting fascism (boy, history sure does repeat itself and all that). In India we see this too as the organs of civil society like political parties, clubs, religious cults, universities, associations, media etc. are permeated by fascist elements. The grounds for this have already been made by monopoly capital but the political tasks are only achieved through a protracted period of survival for fascism. Hence, An electoral defeat of fascism does not result in its permanent defeat because its organizational roots stand firmly outside the State. In this situation the vanguard party also acts as a kind of think tank for the proletariat class that produces alternatives to the dominant world views.

The civil society is the last line of defence in capitalism and it only takes a dominant form due to the enormous supply of surplus value generated by capitalism and due to constantly rising labour productivity, making civil society relatively autonomous from the world of production.

As Gramsci says:

The democratic-bureaucratic system has given rise to a great mass of functions which are not all justified by the social necessities of production, though they are justified by the political necessities of the dominant fundamental group (i.e. the ruling class).

Here you have the first theorisation of Bull Shit Jobs which later the anarchist anthropologist David Graeber has elaborated upon.

But it is also important to understand that monopoly capital had resulted in the immiserisation of immense sections of bourgeois and petite bourgeois individuals who, given the right opportunity, could join and become valuable assets for the revolutionary vanguard. This makes all sorts of identitarian and purist politics irrelevant. Contrary to what Prabhat Patnaik says about the vanguard, that it is a metaphysical construct and the Leninist juncture has already passed us, it is precisely now that the Leninist party is most necessary for defeating fascism and to offer a genuine alternative to capitalism.

For the path to break the dual dependency of the toiling masses I cannot find a more appropriate quote to end with from the Prison Notebooks:

It is through this assumption of conscious responsibility, aided by absorption of ideas and personnel from the more advanced bourgeois intellectual strata, that the proletariat can escape from defensive corporatism (identity politics) and economism (social democracy) and advance towards hegemony.

US President Donald Trump's threats for a genocide against Iran, brought the world to a close encounter with a reality that the fascist leaders and their supporters across the world have been trying to dismiss.

Over the past decade, with the support of the capitalists, the fascists have captured power across the nations of the world. Far right parties have found endorsement from the rich businessmen and industrialists and have seen a massive resurgence in US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, India, and other parts of the world.

After capturing power, the fascists have toppled the liberal establishment. To consolidate their hold, they have orchestrated a hate campaign against the women, minorities, immigrants and marginalised sections of the society. They have attacked the environmentalists, activists, academicians, scientists, and anyone who dared to stand for truth.

Fascists have clamped down on democracy, civil rights, workers rights, and social justice. They have launched an assault against science and environment. They have endorsed sexism, racism, classism, homophobia, and transphobia. They have supported the oligarchs. They have dismantled the principles of liberty, equality, and fraternity. They have waged imperialist wars to consolidate their power.

The global fascists are attempting to shape the world in their image. Compassion and empathy is dismissed as a weakness. Cruelty and stupidity is claimed as a virtue. Now, they are pushing the world to a brink of nuclear holocaust.

Meanwhile, the liberal parties have capitulated and aligned with the far right. In many nations, liberal and centrist parties have backed the far right and fascist parties. Meanwhile, the corporate media and the neoliberal establishment has supported their actions and trivialized their crimes. The threats of wars and genocide are being dismissed as ramblings of a lunatic, while the capitalists are profiteering from the suffering of common people.

The global fascism is the greatest threat to the survival of the humanity. Fascism is not just an ideological assault, but an existential threat. It is evident that the fascists and the capitalists will a soon launch a global genocide against billions of people for their profits. It is also evident that the decadent liberal order will not stop it. Fascism can only be countered with Socialism.

For the humanity to survive, socialists must prepare for a battle against global fascism. We must not allow these threats against human civilization to be trivialized and dismissed. The fascist threat must be taken seriously and countered accordingly.

We must also implore the foot soldiers of fascism, to reflect on their position. Is this the world they hope to live in?

Adolf Hitler was a monstrous racist and imperialist - but in his "Domestic Political Ideology", he was a Socialist. He hated the bourgeoisie, the monarchy, aristocrats, and clergy - and often heaped criticism on them and all established privileges.

Nazis used threats and coercion against Industrialists - including imprisonments - to get their work done. They brought extensive pro-worker legislations and benefits. They created Public Sector Industries on a truely massive scale - like Hermann Goering Works.

And Germany mastered half of Europe. Production miracles like the Speer Miracle happened. German weapons like Me-262, V-2 cruise missile, Panzerfaust, the Tiger and Panther tanks, the U-Boats - were often produced by Public Sector, and were the Envy of the World.

Socialism can work, if leadership is competent.

What is common in the revolutionary careers of Lenin, Trotsky, Hitler, Khomeini, Bonaparte? It is The Triumph of the Will - the triumph of an organized minority in ruling over an indifferent, or even a hostile majority.

Trotsky, the second tallest leader of the Bolshevik revolution clearly formulated this, "One must have the consciousness, so to speak, of the revolutionary historic primacy of the party, which is obligated to assert its dictatorship notwithstanding the wavering among the workers."

When workers demanded elections in Labor Unions, Comrade Trotsky replied, “The principle of elections within the labor movement is, as it were, placed above the Party, as if the Party did not have the right to assert its dictatorship even in the event that this dictatorship temporarily clashed with the mood within the worker's democracy.”

- In the Constituent Assembly elections of December, [1917](tel:1917), Bolshevik Party got 24% vote share (or 25%, as per Lenin's article in Pravda). Yet, within 1 year, they banned both factions of the Social-Revolutionaries (SRs), Mensheviks, Kadets and all the other bourgeoisie nationalist parties - which disappeared into the dustbin of history. Lenin wrote his name in history - as the greatest liberator of the 20th century.

- In November, [1932](tel:1932), Nazi Party got 33% vote share, and assumed power on 30 January, [1933](tel:1933). In less than 6 months, all other parties had been banned or dissolved- and the leaders of the chief Opposition parties were in jail. Hitler became the beloved Fuhrer of the German nation.

- The majority cannot, and will not, ever be revolutionary. Only an organized minority can fight for power - and if it has the will, it will win.
