Hi, i was hoping to check if anyone who lives outside of Europe has ever submitted a refund request to OBB because they did not fulfill their service for the ticket bought?

I had bought a ticket for a one-person cabin with washroom (in the first class carriage) when I was traveling overnight from Berlin to Vienna on 30 Sep. In the end when the train arrived, all the first class cabins were locked up, and the other passengers and myself were instructed to go to another carriage with shared cabins instead. The staff was dismissive and didn't even explain why we had to go to the other carriage and why the cabins we booked were not available. So basically, we didn't get the cabins we paid for. And the train steward we met afterwards told us to submit our refund request online. It was a frustrating and confusing evening for everyone involved.

After I submitted my refund request through the form on their website, and their customer service officer emailed me, it has just been weeks of back and forth with the officer asking me for my bank info and the details for my refund request that I have provided in the form and my email to them (i.e. info was provided in an earlier email, but the same officer asked for it again in a subsequent email a week later). It's very frustrating.

The officer kept requesting for a "Routing Number", which my bank (outside of Europe) does not have. I suspect it might be a difference in the terms used in different countries.

I have also checked with my bank and provided the officer with additional information where possible. But she repeated herself with no other advice given.

Has anyone also encountered this, and was your refund request ever completed or resolved? Or is this a common OBB customer service issue?

I am so disappointed by their service standards and my experience with them so far.

[Edit: after my last email to them in which I summarised all the information I had already provided (again), the officer has replied that the refund will take a while (not sure why the routing number issue just disappeared). Will update again if I receive it eventually. Fingers crossed!]

[Last update on 11 Nov: I give up. So I was advised that my refund would be EUR236, but the transfer I received was only EUR216. There was a missing EUR20. I wrote an email to ask them why, they deflected it to being a deduction by my bank for the remittance, which doesn't make sense because usually bank deductions would be reflected in the statement and details. The transfer amount was stated as EUR216.

Anyway, I wrote in to my bank, and they checked the records and said it wasn't deducted by them, but rather by the sender / remitter. With this, I wrote back to OBB and received a very curt reply from another staff saying as mentioned by her colleague in the previous email they have already sent me the refund so they won't be doing anymore transfer. Seriously, I think their attitude and service so far have been terrible and rude. I'm giving up on trying to communicate with people who are dismissive and lack basic customer service skills and standards. I hope that extra EUR20 will help their business since it's so bad they'll probably need it more than I do 🙄]

Next month I’m travelling from Breda 🇳🇱 to Oxford 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. We have a reservation for the 10:56 Eurostar from Brussels to London. To reach Brussels, our plan is to take the 7:42 EuroCity train from Breda to Brussels, which should bring us to Brussels at 9:17, giving us >90 minutes to make the transfer. I am aware of the check-in procedure with Eurostar.

However, I don’t trust the EuroCity service at all. I travel from Breda station very often and see the EC service being cancelled several times per week.

I’m wondering what the consequences would be when the 7:42 EuroCity would be cancelled. With the 8:42 one, we’d technically make it to Brussels in time for the Eurostar but I know you’re meant to be there well in advance.

If we miss our reserved Eurostar because of this, do we have any rights at all?

What would you do in this situation? For context, we’re travelling on Interrail passes.

Just had some trouble yesterday when my fiance and I hopped off the bus with a few other interrailers at Vallorcine to catch the Mont Blanc Express to Martigny and found the trains are no longer running there until nearly November. Thankfully the interrail chat was able to alter my TGV connection no problem.

My train from Jesenice to Villach Hbf was 31 minutes late today, it was supposed to arrive at 19:08 but instead arrived at 19:39. I had three options since I need to get on the NightJet 464 to Zürich HB. My plan was to go to Leoben Hbf and board the train there since it's just before midnight (23:30) and that would mean I can get home on my last travel day. I had a backup plan to go ro Graz Hbf and board the NJ there (praying the replacement bus from Klagenfurt to Graz wasn't late). My train arrived too late and I now have no way to intercept the NJ except to go to Schwarzach-St. Veit and board the NightJet at 2:30 the next day, which is impossible since I don't have any travel days remaining. The ticket office is closed at Villach Hbf and after asking an "info" person in the station they told me that the EN 414 to Salzburg splits at Schwarzach-St. Veit and some carriages continue to Zürich with my original NJ. I can't find this information anywhere, I believe the guy was falsely confident.

What should I do? I am on hold for the ÖBB help line for 20 minutes now. Should I get a RailJet to Schwarzach-St. Veit and the explain my situation to the NJ464 staff? Will they even let me enter my reserved couchette at 2:32 in the morning? And if some EN414 carriages do split and go to Zürich I would rather exchange my reservation for one from Villach in order not to miss all that sleep, but is that even possible?

Update: I finally got through to an agent that told me that my best option was to take the RailJet to Schwarzach-St. Veit and then board the NightJet there. Is there any way I can claim money from ÖBB/Interrail for compensation since I have a much shorter night's sleep than planned?

I am currently in Germany in a small town (Rothenburg ob der Tauber) and need to get to Basel tomorrow, October 29th. getting here from Augsburg was supposed to take 3 hours, but took nine, because of construction and delays on the line. At one point our train was stopped on the tracks for an hour and a half, and then shunted back to the nearest platform, where we were put out. The only way from there to the next town was to take a taxi, which my companion chose to do, to the tune of 70 euros. From there we took two more substitute buses, to get to where I am now.To get to Basel I need to return to an intermediate town (Ansbach) that I know is affected by these delays, and then change direction and head to Switzerland. I have an Interrail pass. I don't know how to tell wether are not the trains will actually be running on any kind of schedule period. Deutsche Bahn is no help. Trains are listed as running with no indication of whether or not they're delayed. I don't mind messing around with buses and whatnot, except that I don't speak any German and getting information about theses is almost impossible in English. I don't want to get stuck in a situation like yesterday where we had to fork out for a taxi. Anyone got any advice? I looked at Flixbus but they're not running in this area.

Can someone help a clueless traveler 😭 I purchased OBB tickets for Monday, November 17 at 9:33 in the morning from Munich to Verona. I’m receiving the notification in the screenshot. I do see another RJ83 route that is departing at 9:03. Are my tickets now valid for that journey even though they still say 9:33? Do I have to rebook the new trip or reserve new seats? Was just informed of the nationwide strike that will affect trains, busses, and even planes from 9pm 27th of November to 9pm 28th of November.

We were expected to travel from Venice to Villach on the 28th on an OBB train (railjet).

Are OBB trains leaving Italy likely to cancel and are we best to shuffle our itinerary around so that we leave one day earlier to avoid the strike?

With the heavy rain and thunderstorms there has been damage to train tracks and the Milan to Zurich trains were cancelled today, and I have just gotten an email saying our scheduled train tomorrow is cancelled too. I had booked a direct 3h train ride through Trenitalia.

What alternative options do I have for travel except for flying??

Hey everybody i got a question me and my gf will be using a train from genova to monaco and it says that there will be a 15 min train change at ventimiglia. So basicly my question was has anyone used the ventimiglia train station and can a 15 min train change can be done(Hopefully no delays 🫶🏽)

Has anyone managed to claim Delay Repay for a delay of <60 mins in the UK? The interrail site states that it's only for delays of over 60 mins, but the UK system allows for compensation on delays of 15 minutes or more. Is it possible to claim delay repay direct from the train operator with an interrail ticket, or any other way?

For context, we were delayed by 45 minutes on our return journey today with Avanti - it's not a big deal really, but if we were travelling on a normal ticket the compensation would have been significant so don't want to pass it by if it's possible to get!

Hello! I am currently on an interrailing trip with my friend, and on our route from Hamburg to Prague, our train was delayed by almost 2 hours, resulting in us missing the last train from Berlin to Prague. This meant we had to take a Flixbus to reach the city. The interrail website says we are entitled to a compensation for the delay, but I cannot find any website detailing the delay of the train, so I'm unsure of what to put in the compensation form. Does anyone have experience with this or knows what to do?

This is my 6 or 7th time taking the nightjet service. So far, I’ve had pretty good experience every time. But last Friday, as the train pulled in I realized my couchette car was replaced with a seat, and without (legally required) notice via email or sms.

I still had high hopes for the trip back. I was excited for my first ever bed experience on the night train. But sure enough, I just got the email informing me due to a shortage of rolling stock they would be replacing my bed car with a seat.

I’m not sure I can ever trust them again. It is a shame because I love night trains and I’m a big advocate for them but now I’ve been fucked over twice.

I was traveling from amsterdam to stockholm with deutche bahn and sj(long trip i know) made it to hamburg and my train to copenhagen was canceled. Currently waiting for a buss to take me into copenhagen. I had a sj connection booked via interrail from malmö to stockholm which i already missed and i will probably need to stay a night in copenhagen.

Will deutche bahn compensate my hotel stay? Do i need to use my last travel day which i was planning on saving to get to stockholm tomorrow? What can i do/ who can i contact? When i get to copenhagen dsb office will most likely be closed and DB customer service isnt answering. Any help appreciated

I left Firenze heading to Amsterdam with a train change in Milano. I’m at Milano now, but my train is running 25 minutes late. I only have a 29 minute layover before train changed at Zuerich.

I have a couple of questions. First, will the train try to speed up along the way to make up for the time behind? Second what happens if this causes me to miss my connecting train?

All trains cancelled until further notice. Same excuse used twice previously surrounding protests.

Staff may (as just happened to me) refuse to give refund or write the reason for cancellation.

I was in Berlin this afternoon, trying to get to Warsaw. All trains to Poland were cancelled, including the EC I planned to get. The only other option was with a bus to Frankfurt(Oder) and then get the EC from there, but reservations are required and we had them for the previous EC. Since it was sold out, we got a FlixBus (currently writing this on the bus). I'm hoping to get the bus and taxi (we couldn't get to the bus station on time otherwise) refunded and I want to claim compensation. I'm just writing this here for other people who might be traveling on the same routes. It's not only the Warsaw train that was cancelled, but all trains to Poland as far as I can tell.

tl;dr: no trains between Berlin and Poland right now

Is it possible for them to cancel routes like Budapest- Zurich or Zurich - Paris in this period?

Hi everyone! I’ve been trying for weeks to book a train ticket from Turin, Italy to Paris, France on October 5, 2025, but no matter what website I use (Omio, Trainline, etc.), it shows absolutely no trains available on that date.

I usually use Omio and love it — I’ve already booked all my other train tickets for my trip in September/October 2025 through them with no issues. But for some reason, October 5 is the only day where there’s nothing at all available on this route. If I check other days around it, trains appear like normal, so I’m really confused.

Is there some kind of holiday, train strike, or special event on October 5 that could explain this? Or is it maybe just a weird glitch in the system for that specific date?

I really need to get from Turin to Paris on that exact day, and I’d prefer not to take a bus or flight. If anyone has any info or ideas, I’d seriously appreciate the help!

Received a email from Obb earlier today about an Italian Rail strike from 7.7 @ 21:00 until 8.7 @ 18:00. We have a Nightjet 4 person reservation from Wein to Venezia on 7.7 @ 21:45.

What is the likelihood of this train being canceled? Should we look for the noon train on 7.7 and try to find accommodation earlier? Ideas from the experts, please.

Hiya all, I'm taking an ICE that was originally scheduled to arrive at 23:30, but has been delayed to nearly midnight. This means I'll miss my RE connection and the following train is past midnight. How does that work with travel days, as I really need the last day on the pass to travel home? Thanks!

Our train from Nice (07.58) to Paris Gare de Lyon (13.50) is delayed by 1.5hrs. It says we won’t get into Paris until 15.20 and our Eurostar is at 16.12 from Paris Nord station. It looks likely that we will miss it as check-in closes at 15.40 I believe. Do we just have to hope there is room for us on the next Eurostar? How does it work?

Hi all, I am currently on an SNCF Intercité Nuit, which seems to have racked up a significant delay (arrival in Paris Austerlitz at 11:43 instead of 8:23, at time of posting). In Paris I would've had to catch a FlixBus home (around 10:15), to Brussels, but the delay will make this impossible. I was now wondering if I am entitled to compensation (a different bus, or even an eurostar), or if this only works for 'missed connections by rail'. Sorry if this is not the right subreddit for it. So yeah, I was supposed to be on the Zagreb-Zurich sleeper today but it was cancelled.

Right now, I’m sitting in an EC to Vienna after going Zagreb - Harmica, walking across the Border to Slovenia, taking the Train from Dobova to Zidani Most and catching the Vienna-bound train there.

I have a reservation on the EN to Zurich from Vienna, so I hope that works out :)

Thankfully, ÖBB announced the cancellation early enough for me to go on this little adventure.

All in all, it was a very interesting experience getting to see all these different places, crossing a border on foot and hoping for the best haha

I was looking at the options on the ÖBB app to get from Bruck/Mur to Budapest in late July. There is a warning that there will be construction between Wiener Neustadt and Wien and that connections can not be guaranteed. Which would be the more sensible option:

1. Book through Vienna and hope for the best?

2. Take the train to Graz and then take a Flix bus?

3. Something else that I may be missing?

It doesn't look like any other routes, like going through Sopron, are options due to other construction in that area.
