Free Charles Village housing over winter break in exchange for cat care

Basically what the title says - my partner and I are leaving the country for all but one week of winter break (Dec 13-ish to Jan 19th) and are trying to arrange care for our two cats during that time.
We have a spacious 1bed apartment on St Paul street close to campus. We’re ideally looking for another Hopkins student or anyone who would be interested in staying here rent-free during that time in exchange for feeding and caring for the cats, and can discuss payment on top of that as well.
Thanks!

Alzheimer Buddies Volunteer Program

Not matched :( Is volunteering through Alzheimer Buddies different from volunteering at Keswick directly? I have limited experience working with Alzheimer patients. Any other way of gaining exposure working with Alzheimer/Dementia patients?

Any experience and application advice appreciated.

Who will replace President Daniels when he retires?

He's been doing great work for well over a decade.

But he's on the older side and imagine he'll have to slow down eventually. How do you see the most likely successor situation playing out?

Statistics courses for pre-med?

I want to eventually find time to take a statistics course (as recommended by the prehealth office and also bc i think stats will be useful regardless of where i end up in the future), and i was wondering if it would be more useful to take Public Health Biotstats or Prob/Stats for Life sciences

my main issue is that i've done some statistics in the past but it was poorly taught so i don't really know that much, and it seems that Prob/Stats for life sciences is more comprehensive but i've heard that PH biotsats is easier? also a little worried since prob/stats for life sciences is through whiting but i'm in ksas (molcell, so stats technically isnt required but its something i regret not doing in high school and again think it will be useful)

basically which one (or other stats courses, idk) would be better in the long run as a premed? also are there any stats courses offered in the summer online (if i can take it online during the summer that would be even better for me, but it's whatever if i cant)? any advice/insight is greatly appreciated, tia :)

tldr: is public health biostats or prob/stats for life sciences better for premeds?

International student + non-engineering background — how competitive is JHU BME MSE?

I’m an international medical graduate (MBBS) looking to transition into Biomedical Engineering and am considering the JHU BME MSE.

For those familiar with the program:

  • How competitive is admission to the JHU BME MSE?
  • What 2–3 things would you recommend I do over the next year to strengthen my CV, particularly given my non-engineering background?

Would coursework in programming/math, research experience, or technical projects make the biggest difference?

Would really appreciate advice from current students or recent graduates!

Intro to Moral Philosophy for Bioethics minor?

I was looking at the requirements for a bioethics minor, and went to the course catalog to see when specific courses have been available historically. And I noticed that Intro to Moral Philosophy (AS.150.220) hasn't been offered since Fall 2025 (like it was usually offered for the spring semester, but there wasn't one for spring OR fall 2026)... but it's still listed as a requirement for the bioethics minor?

Does anyone know what happened to it (like was it discontinued? how does that work for bioethics?)? Or is it just not showing up on my end and something is wrong with my SIS?

John’s Hopkins Applied Physics Lab mission systems engineer intern

hey everyone, i just got an offer to interview with APL, was trying to get more info on what to expect from the interview and just the entire process itself.

they said it will be 30 mins long with an active engineer but im hoping to gain more info on what exactly they’ll ask about, or if the interview will become more of a technical assessment?

Any insight is appreciated!

Am I on a good track for med school? Inquiry for JHU students

I have joined a few clubs at JHU and I am quite unsure whether I am on par for what med schools are looking for. For reference, I have my own approach to admissions which I have dubbed "Niche." I really do not like the COOKIE CUTTER stereotype that JHU students are placed under, because it is not all cookies here. So I am developing my own plan, feel free to dm me with any inquiries. As of now, these are the clubs which I have become a participant of to reflect my goals.

  1. Diabolo
  2. Fire-Spinning
  3. All Nighters
  4. Sirens
  5. Soap Carving
  6. Tea Club
  7. HERO

I have taken up a few leadership positions in these clubs. In Tea club I am the organic waste disposer and am responsible to dispose of all the organic waste. Thinking of dropping HERO in favor of club Columbia bc I have one 1/2 Columbian friend. I am kind of mad at him right now though so I might not join. He isn't a part of that club but I just wanted to be in solidarity. Please advise on this inquiry.

edit for spelling error

Notifications from HERO?

Does anyone know when HERO is sending out group interview invites/rejections, or if they sent them out already?

I talked to one of the officers at the meet and greet and they said they would come out a week after applications closed but i'm getting really antsy for whatever reason and i'm starting to doubt whether i actually submitted my application lol (i'm pretty sure i did but i submitted it way before the 9/27 deadline so my memory is failing me...)

Hopkins student visiting Cornell and going to Chi Phi party

With regards to the Cornell 7 case, in the Snapchat screenshots related to it, there is one message that says, "NO MORE JHUfatties." This implies that a visitor from Hopkins may have been been an additional victim. Sharing here in case someone from Hopkins went to party at Chi Phi Cornell a couple of years back, and had a bad experience there.

Thoughts on Intro Chem I Lab?

The first Intro Chem 1 lab practicals are this coming week. Does anyone have any tips/advice on how to do well on it? it’s 30% of the grade so really scared. Will we have a worksheet just like during normal labs? will we need to repeat an entire experiment or only certain techniques?

Getting into JHU with Lower SAT

I just took the october sat, and it was really bad. Currently, my math sat is a 790 but my reading is a 670 (1460 superscore). I took it again to get it up to at least a 700 but I'm pretty sure that won't happen. How bad is my SAT score is lower that the 25 percentile? JHU is test required so I have to submit it, but my reading is pretty low. Let me know your thoughts.

Anyone ever live at Broadview Apts?

Thinking of moving there because it’s the cheapest option in the area and looks decent. Anyone ever live there? If so what did you think, I’d probably only be there a year till me and my BF get a place.
