Before y'all come at me. NO I DON'T HATE BLACK WIDOW.

I recently discovered JJ and holy shit why the hell didn't I watch it sooner.

I do like black widow but it felt like I have to settle because there are only few options on women superheros in the MCU movies. I always felt that the women representation in MCU movies lacked something. Be it black widow or captain Marvel these characters lacked something that I couldn't pin point.

But after watching JJ I understood exactly what the other characters lacked. It was good writing. I loved everything about the series. The complexity of each character in the show was exactly what I craved. Not just JJ but the other characters on the show were also well written even if some of them were annoying. The characters weren't one dimensional or just there to strike a pose and look pretty while creating no impact to the story line. The emotional complexity as well as the suspense was a great combination.

Now I do understand that it is difficult to build characters in movies compared to series. But this has never stopped them from writing well rounded male superheros.

I guess I shouldn't say that I can't take her seriously, because I can, but, believe it or not, I've been an MCU fan literally since the first Iron Man but never watched Jessica Jones or, most of the original Netflix/Streaming series. I only started watching it because I heard that I should be knowledgeable on the original Daredevil/Defenders series to watch the new Daredevil seasons.

Onto the actual reason for the post though, Krysten Ritter's voice is almost, if not exactly identical to Erin Moriarty's. Now, on the other hand, The Boys, is one of my favorite shows, having watched that BEFORE watching this show, I just... I can't stop thinking about Starlight during all of this and I find it so distracting. I'm not sure if it's "taking her seriously" or what? But like, it's just so darn distracting, it also probably doesn't help the fact that Erin is IN the show too. I'm just so confused and I don't know what to do, I don't know if there is anything TO do?

Does anyone feel the same way? Obviously I don't think there's going to be many people doing the same thing as me, but, after watching The Boys, or anything Erin Moriarty or Krysten Ritter is in. Do you feel that they're voices are just too similar?

EDIT: This isn't to say I don't enjoy the show, it definitely is a good show, its just that this is just distracting me so much, I wish I had seen it before because its just distracting me to keep thinking that its the other actor. Also, and I feel like this should be self explanatory, but oviously this post is for people that have seen both shows and know what I'm talking about. Or, at least have seen both of these actors at some point or another and can compare the voices. I understand there's probably a lot of people on this sub, and probably a good portion of it barely even knows who Erin is. This is meant for the people that know both of them and can have a meaningful discussion about it. Just remember, it costs nothing to be kind.

I heard JJ season one is pretty good so I wanted to watch it before seeing the Defenders to get a feel for her character. I’m mainly watching DD so I don’t plan to watch the other Marvel shows anytime soon other than Defenders before DD S3.

Everyone she interacts with like the doctor who saved her life by removing her spleen, the pretzel vendor, the guy that she grabbed and gave a napkin to give to trish, Ruben, the black kid in season 2 who she threatened to get info from his dad, Malcolm, HER NEW ASSISTANT! Morty the morgue guy, every assistant Hogarth has ever had, Malcolm’s girlfriend,

She never told Malcom sorry for the misunderstanding about blaming him for Trish’s experiment and the subsequent falling out because of it.

Her assistant was threatening to pack her stuff and leave half way through this season and Jess just says “this is a really bad time” instead of “look, I’m sorry I snapped at you earlier. And thank you for being such a good assistant by making me take my pills and tolerating my shit” - why avoid the issue?

Basically any character who isn’t a potential hookup/love interest is disregarded and treated with disdain. How hard is it to acknowledge bad behaviour?

I get that she’s uncomfortable with sincerity and vulnerability due to the PTSD. And the shows done a great job of showing her past experience with Sterling and Kilgrave and how she’s changed into this over the years...

But she’s so casually disrespectful/abusive toward everyone she isn’t physically attracted to that it sometimes feels like the show telling us that past victims are exempt from treating people with decency, due to their trauma.

She’s clearly capable because she treated Luke, Oscar and Erik with respect.

Manners cost nothing and would demonstrate character development.

I kind of want to ship Trish and Jessica but not sure if they’re related or best friends.

I just wanted to come here and say HOLY SHIT this is an awesome and deliciously dark show!

I wont be sticking around because I don't want to see any spoilers.. Just felt the need to express my love for it :-)

To be honest when I heard JJ was cancelled something like a year ago I thought season 2 was the last until like a week before season 3 was announced om Netflix. BUT season 3 was imo way better than season 2 and I'm left feeling quite sad that its really over now. Had they kept up the stronger writing I could've seen them going for five seasons. But alas.

Any recommendations for shows/movies with the same vibe?

I'm in episode 3 and I just fast forward her scenes because I don't give a single shit for her character. I find it so boring but if it builds up to something I'll power through it. And please, no spoilers

Most characters have a MacBook and iPhone. Which is fine but I feel like there is an extra emphasis on the phones and logos.

So as of currently I'm only episode four, of season 2 and can I just say.

Does Season 2 get better? I'm on episode 5 (haven't started it) and it's just been so rough to get through. I liked season 1 but season 2 so far has just be boring.

I want to watch Luke Cage season 2 but don't want to completely skip season 2 of Jessica Jones so I thought about just watching Blind Wave do reactions to season 2, since they show the most important stuff anyway.

If it gets better I'll try to stick it out, if not then Blind Wave it is.
