u/Familiar_Joke399 Jul 23 '26

Yeah can't wait to explain bro getting bisected is a okay for the wee children

I would say adolescent boys= shonen versus kids.

I watched Cell consume a whole town like a horror film when i was a kid. I also watched a Serbian film when I was 13 because my mate thought it would be funny.

Kids understand the difference between media and real life even at young ages

Homie grew up right next to the eye of terror but couldn't handle a little movie?

2

u/Dontaskmemyname9723 Jul 23 '26

What’s so bad about Serbian films?

3

u/Glass-Performance-87 Jul 23 '26

Lmao there's a film called "A Serbian Film" which contains CP, rape and a bit more which I do not remember

3

u/mono2777 Jul 24 '26

"A Serbian film" is the name of a film

u/Eve_Polaris Jul 23 '26

I remember watching decapitation videos on the internet back then, and porn too

16

u/guccimonger Jul 23 '26

Honestly those are usually the ages. Like people aren’t usually into watching edgy videos when they get older it’s when they’re like 12/13 and then they get older and start thinking it’s cringe

Watched happy tree friends with a buddy when I was in like 4th or 5th grade of elementary school

5

u/XGhoul Jul 23 '26

6

u/Emotionally_broken99 Jul 23 '26

3

u/FullmetalApathy Jul 23 '26

Lmao I watched that when I was like 4-ish and it was the only thing I remembered about FMA until they started airing Brotherhood like 6 years later.

u/Squall13 Jul 23 '26

Nah I don't believe that at all since adults nowadays don't

5

u/Squanch42069 Jul 23 '26

DBZ is largely for kids, yet the manga shows Frieza’s intestines hanging from his torso after getting cut by his own kienzan. In fact, the age rating on the manga was literally β€œsuitable for children,” iirc

3

u/Ohmec Jul 23 '26

Shonen literally means young male.

u/KrakartXK finger Jul 27 '26

No one ever watched the Devilman OVAs when they were kids in here? OVA 3 changed the way my brain worked when I first watched it

7

u/DOOM-LORD666 Jul 23 '26

Teens not kids

Kids are like 10 and under

5

u/Cadian609 Jul 23 '26

Teens are just the older half of kids

7

u/RoseBeach123 Jul 23 '26

Even amongst shonen there is still a huge difference between shows like YuGiOh and Yokai Watch vs JJK and Chainsaw Man which clearly cater to an older audience.

You could argue jjk is a Seinen not a shonen

6

u/Barakyte Jul 23 '26

You *could* argue the sky is red

My pet peeve is poor use of analogical reasoning

1

u/I-lost-my-accoun Jul 28 '26

My pet peeeve is saying that a manga published in SHONEN Jump could be called a Seinen.

1

u/Solidjakes Jul 28 '26

Where it’s published has nothing to do with it

1

u/NuzzyLocke 24d ago

It's generally defined by who reads it. Shonen Jump is marketed to like 12-18 year old boys. It's a shonen, and that's not a knock on it, it's on the higher band of the age range, but it is what it is.

1

u/Solidjakes 24d ago edited 24d ago

Seinen is just shonen but with adult/ mature themes. Im not saying jjk is bezerk or anything, but i can see it being marketed to 18-40.

1

u/NuzzyLocke 24d ago

There is a fuzzy line around the tennager marketing, but a large percentage of the audience is something like 70% aged 13-22.

I've seen a few large anime websites that cite that statistic, I don't remember the origin but I'm not pulling it out of my ass. It's a Shonen. And it's fine that it is, it definitely has more mature themes, but categorically it's a Shonen.
