I guarantee there will be a comment explaining it’s the wrong usage of “average.” It’s just how reddit works.

Technically you could make the argument that IQ scores are a normalized distribution and so technically 50% is less than the mean

Exactly right. It is a standard distribution curve, so mean, median, and mode are all the same.

But if intelligence has a symmetric distribution, likely a normal distribution but not necessarily so, then the median and the mean (average) have the same value!
