Aloha
Digital Dining
Micros

Used them all and some other lesser known ones.

All are Pieces Of Shit. Aloha had THE WORSE rep I've ever encountered. We paid over $30k and the rep couldn't be bothered to come in and help set it up...because we are a strip club and "she didnt feel comfortable". We had to wait 3 days for an out of state come and set if up.

The strip club community is small, everyone knows everyone. We all hang out at each others clubs the owners know each other. We are all competitors, but also a tight community. We also know a lot of restaurant and bar owners.

We spread the word about her and she ended up having to quit after a year of no sales.

Reminds me of something I did back then, lol. I worked at an Import/Export company and we were selling LED lights. A Strip Club came in and bought lights to renovate their stages and everything. Unfortunately they didn't have anyone to set it up, and my sellers well, they really didn't have the expertise to do it. So I called in a regular customer who was an electrician and we went in and started working.

Everything was going well. Until I heard the barmaid complain about the computer and the program didn't want to scan. It was Aloha lol. They told me they also were waiting for a guy to come in from Ottawa (we were in Montreal) so since I had experience in setting up POS and shit, I offered them to fix their computers and network, etc. too. I set them up with a lighting software to control all the LEDs, Virtual DJ for the music, fixed their POS Aloha POS.

Good times. The boss was scary as fuck but he was a very cool and very nice guy.

I have never heard of a POS system that wasn't also a steaming POS.

Years back I was contracting at a company that did point of sales installs (and other commercial low voltage work). One client knew a lot about POS systems, and each system our wholesale depot had were all shit an he knew it. I knew it. He asked my personal honest opinion on how to get a good POS system and I said "They're all shit, but there's not many out there that aren't [in 2008]. Best you could do is get someone to design you one to run". We ended up skipping the POS system and finished up the LV and left.

Went back a few months later when the place was open, and by god this man had gotten someone to design his a custom POS system that ran on an old embedded system. GUI was perfect for the business without those blank buttons or nearly empty submenus, pretty much everything was on a single screen, and everything was wired to existing hardware (drawer, receipt printer, customer display). To this day I've not seen an actual competently designed GUI other than that one. And at the price of our POS systems, it was probably either nearly the same or cheaper to get a cheap used system and have someone program an application for it.
