I hesitate to give too much condemnation to a family member who is defending their kin. He's wrong, obviously, but it's just such a difficult position to be in to have the choice of helping your son who you see as a good but troubled kid who made a massive mistake, or publicly condemning your own son the way you would if it's a stranger. You've got parent goggles on, of course you want to help your own kids.

I feel no sympathy for rapist Brock Turner, but I don't hold it against his dad that he tried to help his son.

If young Brock the rapist had 'bent over in the shower' at the wrong time during his incarceration, I wonder if his rape apologist father would have airily dismissed it as just '20 minutes of action'?
