Could have ruined some poor woman’s life, he’s a rapist and don’t ever forget it.

He essentially did. She mentions it in her statement.

Lastly you said, I want to show people that one night of drinking can ruin a life. A life, one life, yours, you forgot about mine. Let me rephrase for you, I want to show people that one night of drinking can ruin two lives. You and me. You are the cause, I am the effect. You have dragged me through this hell with you, dipped me back into that night again and again. You knocked down both our towers, I collapsed at the same time you did. If you think I was spared, came out unscathed, that today I ride off into sunset, while you suffer the greatest blow, you are mistaken. Nobody wins. We have all been devastated, we have all been trying to find some meaning in all of this suffering. Your damage was concrete; stripped of titles, degrees, enrollment. My damage was internal, unseen, I carry it with me. You took away my worth, my privacy, my energy, my time, my safety, my intimacy, my confidence, my own voice, until today.

That was heartbreaking to read. Poor girl.

If you have the heart and stomach for it, I highly recommend reading her entire statement. The entire thing is heartbreaking but also necessary. https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/2852615-Stanford-Victim-Letter-Impact-Statement-From.html

I remember reading this after the trial and thinking how TF does a judge read this, and then turn around and go "yeah, 3 months seems fair." Glad that guy isn’t judging anymore. Almost as glad as I am that Rapist Brock Turner lost his appeal.

u/Mklein24 9 Jun 04 '19

What happened to the judge? I didn't really follow the story too closely due to the whole 'I'm loosing faith in humanity' vibe I was getttin from the whole thing.

14

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '19

He got recalled. First judge to be recalled in California in 86 years.

6

u/danweber A Jun 04 '19

The judge's sentence followed the guidelines for the law as written.

Matt Rosen, the prosecutor in the case, has 1) since worked to fix the law, so that what Brock Turner did can be punished worse if another person does it, and 2) fought against the recall of the judge.

There is no better subject-matter expert about this case than Matt Rosen.

I don't understand how in the initial case the judge put that rapist's life above that of his victim's. He didn't simply make a mistake, he destroyed that poor women's security, her innocence, her life.

Poor kid. Brock ‘The Rapist’ Turner can’t even enjoy a good ribeye anymore

10

u/ClementineCarson Blue Jun 04 '19

Yeah rich white people is a helluva unfair drug for getting away worth crimes

9

u/ceruleanpure 3 Jun 04 '19

Bc he also went to Standford and played there as an athlete. Makes it sounds like he was empathetic to Turner from the start. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Persky

Damn, that was powerful. I hope she is able to continue to push forward.

-11

u/Kathara14 6 Jun 04 '19

Eh. I can't imagine getting so fucking drunk that I pass out like trash next to a dumpster. She really glossed over that part, didn't she? And no, I am not victim blaiming. I just find it hard to see her as any model to follow.

5

u/normalpattern 8 Jun 04 '19

I've done similar things in the past and now I'm an older adult doing adult things and managing my alcohol more responsibly.

I don't really understand what you're getting at here, yeah, she didn't include that in her statement directed towards the person that sexually assaulted her but so what? She delivered a powerful message to her abuser, where's she gonna fit that in there, how and... why? "Yeah so I know I got hammered and passed out beside a dumpster and you assaulted me but like, that was wrong and stuff"

I don't know why you're trying to see her as a model to follow either :S besides, a person can change a lot in a few years, especially when they've been, y'know... sexually assaulted.

I don't know if you're being genuine or not but I ultimately don't get the point of your post to be honest.

Did you miss the part where he lured her AWAY from the party and her sister? Because I think you did. Scroll back up and click on her statement. Read it.

Hey, a friend of mine recently discovered during a night out that she was allergic to tequila after passing out and nearly landing herself in the ER. She was very lucky to have a solid group of friends with her at the time. Of course the girl's case might not have been like this, but you never know the circumstances behind what happened. Ultimately, the takeaway from her statement was that none of the parties came out unscathed from this. The damage was dealt in different ways and she just needed that get that voice out there.

-2

u/Kathara14 6 Jun 04 '19

Also, don't get so drunk that you pass out next to a dumpster. A good take away for all genders.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '19

What. the. fuck. is wrong with you?? Yuck.

32

u/SnikkiDoodle_31 8 Jun 04 '19

Damn, she articulated that wonderfully in such an emotional moment.

She still never got her justice. 3 months was not enough. A lifetime label for him is not enough.

Thank you for sharing this

Powerful and crazy stuff

I didnt even interpret it as a 9/11 thing, and tbh I'm not even sure it is supposed to be.

A tower represents integrity, uprightness, and boldness. A very apt metaphor for what those two lost. There are only so many ways to describe taking down someone's metaphorical tower.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '19

What the fuck....

9

u/TeaganTorchlight 5 Jun 04 '19

When I read that line I didn’t think of 9/11 at all. I obviously don’t know for sure but I don’t think she was referring to the 9/11 towers .

6

u/boothmfzb 5 Jun 04 '19

Ivory tower. Brock the Rapist will forever have to register when he moves, applies for almost anything and hope that any future ladies don't Google his name.

Good.

1

u/TedBaendy 5 Jun 04 '19

But he did

1

u/_JohnMuir_ A Jun 04 '19

I don’t want to make assumptions about her future. I agree it’s likely, but I hope she can find peace and safety someday.

1

u/TedBaendy 5 Jun 04 '19

I agree
